00:00What a shot that is, what a sight it is.
00:14It is a pleasure to be once again in wonderful Lombok,
00:19in beautiful Indonesia for the 18th chapter
00:23in this year's Mudder GP World Championship.
00:27So far, the Grand Prix of Indonesia has been the Marco Betsecki show.
00:35Thoroughly dominant on free practice Friday,
00:38four tenths clear of anybody else around this 4.3km circuit
00:43and Bez has just set himself up nicely for an attack on what would be
00:48just a third April pole position for the Italian,
00:51having just led the 30-minute FP2 session.
00:55Can anybody halt Betsecki and Aprilia's domination of this Mandalika Grand Prix so far?
01:02Of course, Betsecki still firmly in the hunt for third overall in the World Championship.
01:0732 points, he is adrift of fellow Italian Peko Bagnaio in that particular chase.
01:13Well, our next two Grand Prix's here in Mandalika and Phillip Island, of course,
01:20provide spectacular coastal locations.
01:24who is going to be making the big waves coming up in our two qualifying sessions.
01:31Q1 for the first time in 2025 will feature both Factory Ducatis,
01:37which means, of course, newly crowned world champion Marc Marquez in Q1 for the first time in almost 18 months.
01:45Very, very hard to pick out the two rises that will go into Q2 shortly.
01:50So your Q1 entry list, and there's some big names in it.
01:55World Champion Marc, Mormodeli, Binder, Zarco, who had two falls yesterday.
02:02Bastienini, another faller on practice Friday.
02:05Jack Miller, Peko Bagnaio making it two Factory Ducatis into Q1 for the first time since Valencia,
02:14all the way back in 2023.
02:16The Gian Antonio, Vinales and Chantra complete that line-up.
02:21So for the first time, this is a new experience.
02:25This is new territory, isn't it, as far as Marc Marquez is concerned.
02:29Q1 for the first time on the Factory Ducati.
02:34Q1 for just the fourth time on board a Ducati.
02:37Three times he was in Q1 last year on the Grazini GP23.
02:42Can Marc put behind him two heavy crashes yesterday.
02:48First he had turn ten, and then at turn five a rather nasty high side
02:52before the Factory Ducati rider to try and fight for yet another pole position.
02:58Betsechi, though, is going to be the rider to start without any question
03:02as he hones in on a seventh mother GP pole position.
03:05Confirmation of what I just said, the Valencia Grand Prix in 2023
03:09to close out that campaign was the last time we saw two Factory Ducatis in Q1.
03:17Peko Bagnia, of course, back then was one of those riders,
03:20along with Bastianini, who also is another rider in this Q1 session.
03:25So Bagnia, who has won a Grand Prix here previously from 13th on the grid,
03:35was back in 2023.
03:37All three Ducati GP25s coming up in this 15-minute opening Q1 session.
03:42And there's another Ducati in it as well with Frankie Morbidelli,
03:4612th quickest yesterday, just 500th he was behind Marc.
03:50The only two Ducatis that are already safely through to Q2 are the Grazini pairing
03:57of Aldegar who was second yesterday and Alex Marquez who crept in by a whisker.
04:03Alex just 600th clear of Marc at the end of practice yesterday.
04:08Very unusual to say it, but there are more Ducatis in this Q1 session
04:11than any other make of motorcycle.
04:13Ten riders battling it out for two places in the fight for pole position that comes
04:18a little bit later on this morning, four Ducatis, of course,
04:22the two from the factory team, the two from VR46.
04:25Of course, those fans making it very clear who they want to see in qualifying two.
04:30I guess if they turn that nine upside down, then they can show support
04:33for both of the factory Ducati riders who lead the field out for qualifying two,
04:37joining them in this Q1 session.
04:39Then we have two KTMs, of course, going through in this session as well.
04:44We also have a solitary Honda, or a couple of Hondas should I say,
04:47of Zarco and Chantra for the LCR squad, and just one Yamaha going through this session.
04:52That is Jack Miller, and he's shown pace to suggest that he can potentially
04:56disrupt the Ducatis in his Q1 session if he can keep it on two wheels.
05:00Sixth race in a row now that Miller has found himself in our opening qualifying session.
05:06You have to say, if you look at the form book,
05:09Marc is surely going to be one of the big favourites to get himself out of this Q1 session.
05:14Fancy little dip in the turquoise water a little bit later on this evening
05:19when we've completed all the Saturday action here in Lombok.
05:24Just a quick reminder if you're joining us for the first time this morning,
05:27as always, local time. This is wherever you're watching in the world, adjust your clocks,
05:31but it's 3pm local time this afternoon that the Tissot sprint will be underway.
05:36Over 13 laps.
05:38We're on board then with Pecco Bagnaia looking back to his factory.
05:42Ducati colleague Marc Marquez.
05:44Can the pair of them advance out of probably one of the toughest Q1 sessions of the season so far.
05:53So many riders, when the media spoke to them in the press centre here last night in Lombok,
05:57were sort of saying, you could just see relief all over their face,
06:00because they knew that this was a Q1 that you really did not want to be involved in,
06:04when Bagnaia and Marc are in it.
06:06Marc giving himself a little bit of distance there behind Pekka Bagnaia,
06:10he doesn't want to catch him on this Q1 lap if indeed he is faster.
06:14So the factory Ducati riders lead us down the main straight.
06:17Up behind them is Johan Zarco, then it is Fabio Di Gian Antonio.
06:20Fastest laps we've seen so far this weekend have been in the low 29s,
06:24if your name is Marco Betsecki, mid 29s or high, if you're everybody else.
06:30Yeah, he was fast straight out the gate once again, wasn't he?
06:32Betsecki has successive Fridays.
06:34He's been the quickest rider.
06:36He was untouchable on Friday in Japan last time out.
06:39Davide Todd obviously looking on then.
06:41This is a rather alien territory, isn't it?
06:44As far as the factory Ducati squad are concerned.
06:47Almost a full two years since they saw both red bikes featuring the Q1 session.
06:53Gigi Delinea looking on, still patched up after some celebrations
06:57that Martin Hacquez's seventh world championship went wrong here on Lombok a few days ago.
07:02Jumping into the shallow end of the pool and getting a bit of a blow on the mush did Gigi.
07:08Mar Marquez is catching Banaya on this lap as I thought he might do with the reference up ahead of him.
07:14It's not a toe that Mar Marquez is after, but he's just following the lines of Banaya and closing in him.
07:18Look at the bottom of your screen.
07:19He's seven tenths up on Banaya at the same stage of the lap.
07:22He might almost get held up here in the final sector up behind the 63,
07:26which of course he followed home to win the world championship a week ago.
07:29You saw a little bit of a twitch there from Banaya's Ducati up ahead,
07:31but Marquez considerably quicker.
07:33We're going to track then to the factory Ducati's over the line.
07:37These are going to be the first time lapse of this Q1 session.
07:41The benchmark is Mark's a 1.30.120, which is pretty normal remaining.
07:48Nearly six tenths of a second clear and Morbidelli in second.
07:511.30.120 from Mark.
07:54That's less than a tenth of a second from anything that he managed yesterday.
07:58So already straight on point, straight down to business is Mark.
08:02Almost as quick as what he managed yesterday on that first flying lap.
08:06Still think it's going to take 29s though to get through to Q2 in this session.
08:11Morbidelli currently in second place on a 30.6.
08:14He did a 30.1 yesterday afternoon.
08:16Still plenty of time to be found yet.
08:18Yeah, there were 29s in FP2, so we're definitely going to get 29s in these two qualifying sessions.
08:23First one should be incoming very, very shortly.
08:26Potentially maybe from Frankie Morbidelli.
08:29Oh, it's wide there, isn't he, going through turn 10 as the waves crash onto the beaches in the background.
08:36Despite that mistake going into the right-hander.
08:39One of the two heavy breakings onto Mandelikas that tenth turn.
08:42Banyaya is still up here.
08:44The two Vr46 Takatis are going really strong on this second lap in time attack mode.
08:50Both Morbidelli and the Gian Antonio looking for 1.29s.
08:54Cost Banyaya a half-second that mistake into turn 10, and it's going to cost him a place in the top two at the moment.
08:58At the moment, the two Vr46 Ducatis about to bump one of the factory Ducatis.
09:03Mark Marquez out of the top two, because both Morbidelli and Digia on course to get themselves well into the 29s.
09:09Yeah, this is going to be a 29 surely from Frankie.
09:11Out of the final corner he goes.
09:13Right height device engaged.
09:15All close, very, very close.
09:171.30.0, 2.2 then from Morbidelli.
09:21The Gian Antonio does indeed break into the 1.29s.
09:25That's more like it, isn't it, as far as Digia is concerned.
09:28Six tenths faster than what he managed yesterday, the Gian Antonio, in his first three laps of this session.
09:36And he's nearly two tenths clear of Morbidelli.
09:39So two Ducatis at the moment in the top two and going into Q2.
09:43Maybe not the two Ducatis that we were expecting.
09:45Plenty of time, of course, for Mark and Banyaya to correct that situation.
09:49But it's a far from happy Banyaya at the moment.
09:51It's debriefing with his crew chief Christian Gavarini inside the box.
09:54Peko after the opening run seventh.
09:57And you could see from the hand signals that he was giving to his team there, just how his Ducati was snapping away from him.
10:03Just clearly, once again, hasn't got the confidence to really throw it on the line on that GP25 or whatever we're going to call it at the moment for Peko.
10:11Banyaya, Mark Marquez, who is firmly on a GP25 on course at the moment to get himself back into the top two, having been bumped out by the BR46 two-year-old moments ago.
10:22Through 13 now, 14 fourth gear, the right-hander.
10:25This is going to be close.
10:26It should be knocking Morbidelli out of second place.
10:30Whether he's got enough in this final sector now to depose the Gian Antonio from top spot remains to be seen.
10:36We won't have to wait too long to get an answer to that question as now he banks your left.
10:40through turn 17.
10:42Yeah, Mark, this is surely going to be a top two lap.
10:45It's just a question of whether it's P1 or P2.
10:47It's P1, of course it is.
10:49P1 then for the world champ, a 129.687.
10:53He was lightning quick in that full sector there, was Mark.
10:57So he fires in the 129.687,
11:01which is now just about four tenths quicker than his benchmark time on Friday afternoon.
11:07Bender's got himself in there in fourth on a 30.2.
11:11He's behind the trio of Ducatis that currently lead this session.
11:14Miller fifth on a 30.3 from Zarko.
11:17Banyai at 30.9.
11:18He would have gone a lot quicker than that had he not overshot turn 10 on his second lap.
11:22But clearly a lot of time to be found yet for Banyai.
11:25If he's to make Q2, he needs to improve by over a second from there.
11:28Master Yi Nini is absolutely horrendous.
11:32Indonesian Grand Prix continues at the Beast's first run.
11:37He didn't even get into a 34.
11:39Something clearly went spectacularly wrong for Enea on his opening run down in tenth place.
11:44Of course, just 20 riders participating in this Mandalika Grand Prix.
11:51We are missing half of our Aprilia contingent of both Jorge Martin and Ayagura sideline through injury.
11:58We wish a pair of them speedy recoveries.
12:00We do know confirmation yesterday that after suffering multiple fractures in his right colour bone,
12:05which has already been operated on after his first corner indiscretion at Turn 1 in Matejga last week,
12:12Martin definitely out of the upcoming Australian Grand Prix in Phillip Island.
12:17Bindu then, well, he needs to find at least four tenths of a second if he's to get into P2 in this session.
12:23Mumudeli also needs to pick up at least a couple of tenths if he is to knock his teammate Digia out of that top two.
12:29Well, that early run from Mark then at 1.29.687.
12:34He stayed out longer than anybody else, didn't he, Mark Marquez?
12:37Pekobanya has already gone back out, as you saw, for his second run.
12:42So they don't think Mark Marquez will be taking any liberties from there on a 29.6.
12:47He'll be going back out for a second run, surely.
12:48Of course, it would be the big incentive to try and save a tyre for Q2,
12:52but they haven't got that level of superiority here that Mark Marquez can take that luxury.
12:56Just to Dan Antonio, just looking for a bit of clear road ahead him as he leaves pit lane at the moment.
13:05Job done.
13:06As far as E49 is concerned.
13:09Mark Marquez, sweat pouring off the brow as he debriefs with Gigi Delinha.
13:15At the moment, this is a massive six minutes and a little bit more coming up for Bagnaia,
13:22who if it stays as is, well, 17th place on the grid for the double world champion.
13:29Of course, he has had his qualifying woes already recently, 15th on the grid he was in Hungary,
13:34and that disaster in Barcelona where he was 21st.
13:39A very rare occasion that we saw the Italian qualifying outside the top 20 for Ramona GP battle.
13:46He's got it all on, though, hasn't he to get himself inside that top two.
13:50130.933.
13:52I mean, he needs well over a second, does Bagnaia.
13:55I wonder whether this might be quite a smart strategy, though, to send him out early.
13:58We've heard all weekend riders speaking about the difficulty, even with the softer rear tyre,
14:02just to build up the temperature and the performance from these tyres.
14:06So Bagnaia is giving himself at least three or four laps here to try and build that temperature into his tyres,
14:12build some momentum, build some speed and potentially get himself into that top two.
14:16That's why Mark stayed out longer than anybody else in that first run.
14:19Marquez did the fastest time of this session on the longest stint.
14:25Everybody else put in their best times on laps two or three.
14:28Mark's 1.29.687 came on lap four.
14:32I guess Mark was always going to be perhaps waiting that extra lap,
14:37giving himself a little bit more time to get temperature in the tyres after the big crash he had,
14:41high siding out at turn five yesterday.
14:44And so many riders did talk yesterday about how it was taking three or four laps to get the tyres to really come in and work out their best.
14:52So evidence there by the fact that Mark Marquez is quite used, isn't it, to do a lap time.
14:56Your best time on four laps on a soft rear tyre. Normally you sort of got the best out of it by that point.
15:02So Bagnaia will keep on pushing. Four and a half minutes to go.
15:05So assuming he doesn't back off and slow down on one of those laps,
15:08he could potentially still get another four laps out of this.
15:11He'll get three more before he comes across the chequer flag and potentially one more after that.
15:15Bastianini pushing on, looking to try and rescue his weekend on the Tech 3 KTM.
15:20This unlikely to get him into the top two, but could potentially get him in amongst Morbidelli and Binder,
15:24who are currently third and fourth.
15:27Yeah, and Ayer yesterday describing his current situation as critical.
15:31So it's unacceptable the amount of crashes he's having.
15:34Feels like he's almost back to square one.
15:37The lack of confidence, the zero finning with the front end of that KTM,
15:41which he had right at the start of the season.
15:43That's a bit more likely. That's better up to fifth place from Bastianini.
15:48Another 300s. He would have got himself up into four better, but the RC 16 of Binder.
15:54This is getting better for Gian Antonio, potentially.
15:59Looking at the moment, though, at his teammate Frankie Morbidelli.
16:03He's also putting together a pretty strong lap here.
16:05If this is a clean final sector from Morbidelli,
16:08this might actually be briefly putting himself up inside that top two.
16:12Over the line Frankie goes. Not quite.
16:15Gian Antonio, though, has found more pace.
16:17He's improved to 1.29.744.
16:21500s now behind Mark.
16:23And about a tenth and a half buffer then back to Morbidelli.
16:26So already on that second time lap of this run,
16:28Banya found the best part of half a second.
16:30His first lap was a 30.695.
16:32on this rear tire.
16:34He then immediately dropped it to a 30.218.
16:37Some riders clearly are able to just fire these tires up
16:39and get a lap out of them immediately.
16:41Banya, though, needs a couple more.
16:43So is he just going to continue to get faster and faster here?
16:46BR46 Ducati once again putting up a brilliant fight,
16:51as we knew they would do, for a spot in Q2.
16:54Asking big questions, aren't they?
16:56They're two Ducati rivals in this opening 15-minute session.
17:01Questions to which Pekka Banya is going to be hoping to have the answers for.
17:05As he charges into turn ten right at the top end of the circuit.
17:09We've got Brad Binder for company just behind him.
17:12Now through 11.
17:13Got quickly too.
17:14And Binder's using Banya here as a brilliant reference ahead of him.
17:18This would be a bit of a shock if Binder could find his way through.
17:21Morbidelli and the Gian Antonio now with some serious temperature in their rear tie.
17:25Well, they are charging down towards potentially a 1.29.4, 1.29.3.
17:31It's Morbidelli just up the road ahead of the Gian Antonio.
17:36Let's follow Frankie out of turn 17.
17:39Surely this is going to be a P1 lap.
17:40Having second over the line the Gian Antonio goes, and that is a 1.29.5.
17:46So the Gian Antonio then now back in control of this session.
17:50Oh, Mark will be breathing a big sigh of relief
17:52because that last lap by Morbidelli was only three hundredths behind the 93.
17:57Banya and Binder as you can see there are the volume of skins at identical times.
18:00Banya goes straight on into turn one.
18:02He's going to have to keep pushing on this lap Banya to make sure he gets to the line in time for one more lap.
18:06Mark Marquez bails out of this lap, which was a personal best until he arrived at turn 14.
18:12But Mark Marquez has only got three hundredths of a second to play with here.
18:17Just having a look at the timing screens though.
18:19That's second place not under any great threat at the moment as we move into the final minute or so of this session.
18:28That was Mark just rolling out of it going through the third gear turn three.
18:34At the moment though he is going to be advancing into Q2.
18:37He'll still be firmly in the hunt for pole position number 75 in his mother GP career.
18:43Gian Antonio has been some say this by Digia.
18:47I mean, he was 18th on the leaderboard yesterday with only Vinales and Chantra behind him.
18:52I want 29.582.
18:55Crikey, there's been a magic one fix for Digia overnight.
18:58He's pretty much a second quicker than what he managed yesterday.
19:01So this is Mark Marquez just to start the flying lap.
19:05He already lost the front coming through the final corner turn 17.
19:09This is not a comfortable ride through to qualifying two for Mark Marquez.
19:13He has just set the fastest first sector on the lap that he's just started.
19:17And Mark Marquez, it's potentially his teammate here, Bagnaia, that he might be fending off if Bagnaia gets one more lap in.
19:22Oh, Bastianini, well, he said yesterday, every time I try and push on this KTM, I'm on the deck.
19:29Into the first corner he's gone down.
19:31And Bagnaia is just coming through the final corner now.
19:33Bagnaia is just starting his final flying lap and it might already be ruined by the time he even gets to turn one.
19:39I think it will be.
19:40Yeah, those yellow flags are still being waved.
19:42So, Peko, Bagnaia.
19:44Oh, well, he's taking the chequered flag.
19:46That's Bagnaia.
19:47Didn't get around in time.
19:48So, Bagnaia is taking the chequered flag.
19:50So, it was immaterial, the yellow flag for Bastianini.
19:53That's a Peko, Bagnaia.
19:55Well, seven days ago in Matteigi, he was on pole position and led every lap to dominate the sprints.
20:02Fast forward a week and his sprint Saturday has gone the opposite way here in Mandalika.
20:08Bagnaia, at best, will be 16th on the grid.
20:12That's going to be the third time then in the last five Grand Prix that Bagnaia has qualified 15th or lower.
20:19Relief then for Mark, who is going to be in the second qualifying session with Fabio de Gianantonio.
20:28Full credit to Digia.
20:29He's found an enormous chunk of time compared to yesterday.
20:32So, it's Digia and Mark that are going to go through into Q2.
20:36Missing out.
20:37Oh, talk about five margins.
20:38Was Mormodelli in third.
20:40Not even five hundredths behind Mark.
20:43Miller was fourth.
20:45Abinda fifth.
20:46And then you've got Bagnaia.
20:48A dismal 16th.
20:50Well, he's come from back down on the grid before the win here in Mandalika.
20:54He did it in 2023 from 13th.
20:58I don't think there's going to be too many people backing him to repeat that from even further down the grid.
21:0216th for Bagnaia.
21:04Bastienini a seventh.
21:06Zarko's had a real struggle on this Saturday morning.
21:1118th on the grid will be the Frenchman having had two crashes yesterday afternoon.
21:16Top job though by Digia.
21:18He's one of our two that goes in to Q2.
21:21He pumped up Fabio Gian Antonio.
21:24You heard him saying die there to his team as he came into the box.
21:27Come on.
21:28And he goes through to Q2.
21:30Morvidelli missing out by 48 thousandths of a second from making it a VR4612
21:35and knocking potentially Mark Marquez out who did improve anyway on his final run just to give himself a little bit more margin.
21:42So Mark Marquez keeps up his record of at least making every Q2 subfire this season even if this is the first time he's had to go through qualifying one.
21:50Jack Miller he got himself into the 129th himself but he's unable to make it a full complement of Yamaha's in Q2.
21:59Bagnaia was half a second quicker than when he managed on Friday but not good enough.
22:04Other riders around him were finding a full second like Fabio Gian Antonio.
22:11Well it wasn't a clear run wasn't it?
22:13It wasn't without his dramas but at this stage Mark won't be bothered too much because he is through into Q2.
22:19We can't stay the same though can we for Peko Bagnaia who I'm sure is a bit shell-shocked looking at the timing screen.
22:27Sector 2 he's getting destroyed.
22:29Look how much time he loses in the first half of this Mandelika lap.
22:34Absolutely nowhere in that second sector.
22:37So just as he did in Hungary and in Catalonia recently there's going to be no Peko Bagnaia involvement in our second qualifying session.
22:46Yeah chatter vibration.
22:50No front feeling as far as Mark Marquez is concerned.
22:56You want to know what a face of thunder looks like? Well look inside that factory Ducati garage on the 63 side at the moment.
23:02Because can you believe we're looking at a rider or we were just looking at a rider who was so utterly dominant last time out in Meteggi.
