00:44what we already know there are 60 minutes in one hour there are 30 minutes in half
00:56an hour so that means there are 15 minutes in a quarter of an hour when the minute hand
01:11is pointing at the 12 we say it is something o'clock when the minute hand is pointing at
01:19the three we say it is quarter past something when the minute hand is pointing at the number
01:27six we say it is half past something and lastly when the minute hand is pointing at the number
01:36nine we say it is quarter to something in this video we are going to learn how to read time on
01:47an analog clock to the minute to do this we will need to use a different clock face you will notice
01:57that this new clock face has these little lines in between the numbers each line on the clock face
02:06including the ones with the numbers represents one minute there are 60 lines on the clock face
02:14because there are 60 minutes in an hour notice that there are four little lines in between each number
02:23on the clock face this means that we can count by increments of five minutes each time we reach one
02:30of the numbers on the clock face keep in mind that when the minute hand reaches the 12 the minutes will
02:37start back at zero as it is the beginning of a new hour let's start reading time to the minute so you
02:45have a better understanding of this the time on the analog clock is currently three o'clock now watch the
02:58minute hand closely as it moves to the next minute that means the time is now three oh one let's watch the
03:14minute hand move to the next minute again now the time is 302 next is 303 then 304 and then 305
03:40you can see and understand now that when the minute hand is pointing at the line at the number one that
03:50shows that five minutes has passed the hour using this strategy of counting by increments of five
03:56minutes will be a much faster way to read time let's give this a go first of all we need to look at the
04:06hour hand it has gone past the number one so it is one something now let's look at the minute hand it is
04:16pointing at the line at the number four so let's count by fives around the clock face until we reach the
04:23number four to find out how many minutes have passed the hour five ten fifteen twenty oh so that means
04:39twenty minutes has passed the hour so the time is one twenty let's try the next one remember we always need to
04:52look at the hour hand first the hour hand is passed the number ten so it must be ten something
05:02the minute hand is pointing to the line at the number seven so let's count by fives around the
05:08clock face to see how many minutes has passed the hour five ten fifteen twenty twenty-five thirty thirty-five
05:26so that means the time is ten thirty-five looking at the hour hand it is passed the number four
05:47so it is four something now i'm going to count by fives until i reach the line at the number five to find
05:56out how many minutes has passed the hour five ten fifteen twenty twenty-five so the time is four twenty-five
06:15in this time we can see that the hour hand is still in the sixth hour so it is six something
06:23as it has not yet reached the number seven you can see that the minute hand is pointing to a little
06:30line that is not at a number on the clock face this means we will first count by fives until we get to
06:37the number ten on the clock face and then count by once five ten fifteen twenty twenty-five thirty thirty-five
06:55forty forty-five fifty fifty-one fifty-two
07:02so that means that the time is six fifty-two
