00:00Hello, students! How are you doing today?
00:05I am doing great, and I am just sitting here on this hand on this clock.
00:10As you can tell, the hand is moving around in a circle, and today I am going to learn more about clocks.
00:15Would you like to learn with me?
00:17Great!
00:18Uh-oh.
00:22This, kids, is a clock, as you might already know.
00:25This whole circle that has all the numbers and lines on it is called the face of the clock.
00:30What else do you notice about the clock?
00:34There are lots of numbers that go all the way around the clock.
00:37These numbers represent the hours on the clock.
00:40You will also notice that there are tiny lines that go all around the clock.
00:44There are 60 lines that go around the clock, to be exact.
00:47These little lines represent the minutes, and there are 60 minutes in one hour.
00:52What other things do you see on the clock?
00:56These little pointers are called hands.
00:59They do not look like the hands that we have, but these are the hands for the clock.
01:03There are two hands on this clock, and can you tell me if they are the same size?
01:10The hands on the clock are not the same size, and this is important because one of the hands
01:14tells us the hour, while the other hand tells us the minutes.
01:18The longer hand that you see here is called the minute hand.
01:23The shorter hand is called the hour hand.
01:28So the long hand tells us the minutes, and the short hand tells us the hours.
01:35Can you see the hands spinning around the clock?
01:38Great!
01:39The hands are spinning in one direction around the clock.
01:42This is called clockwise direction.
01:45The hands on a clock always spin this direction, starting at the 1 and going around to the 12.
01:52Maybe you can answer this question for me.
01:54Which hand moves faster around the clock?
01:57The hour hand or the minute hand?
02:02Great job!
02:03The minute hand moves faster around the clock.
02:06Let's do a quick review of what we have learned so far.
02:09The part of the clock with all the numbers and lines on it is called the face of the clock.
02:14The numbers that go around the clock tell us what hour it is.
02:19What do you think the little lines tell us?
02:23They tell us the minutes!
02:25Great job, guys!
02:26Now last but not least are the two pointers that spin clockwise around the clock.
02:31What are these pointers called?
02:34Correct!
02:35They are called the hands of the clock.
02:37The long hand points to the minutes while the short hand points to the hours.
02:41So we have the hour hand.
02:44And we have the minute hand.
02:46Awesome job, kids!
02:48We now know the basics of the analog clock.
02:51Did you know there is another type of clock that we use?
02:54Have any of you seen what they call a digital clock?
02:58A digital clock also tells us what time it is just like the analog clock we learned about.
03:04On the digital clock we see the hour and minutes in a little different way.
03:08The two dots on top of each other separate the hours from the minutes.
03:12The hour is on the left side and the minutes are on the right side.
03:17Both of these clocks are showing 4 o'clock.
03:21The analog clock on the left uses hands, lines, and numbers to tell us the time.
03:26The digital clock on the right tells us the time as well but only uses numbers.
03:31Wow, this stuff is way awesome!
03:35Today we learned about all the cool things that clocks have.
03:38Stay tuned because next time we will learn how to tell time with the clocks.
03:42Thank you for your help.
03:43Have a great day.
03:44Goodbye!
