00:24Here are the two hands for our clock face.
00:29Remember that the long hand is called the minute hand and the shorter hand is called the hour hand.
00:42Before we continue, let's recap on what we already know.
00:48There are 60 minutes in one hour.
00:51So that means when the minute hand does a full rotation around the clock face, 60 minutes has passed.
00:58So that means that half a rotation is equal to 30 minutes because half of 60 minutes is 30 minutes.
01:11Remember, when the minute hand is pointing at the number 12, we say it is something o'clock.
01:24Also remember that when the minute hand is pointing at the number 6, we say it is half past something.
01:39The time on the clock face now says 12 o'clock.
01:51Now watch what happens when the minute hand only travels a quarter of the way around the clock.
01:56As you can see, the minute hand is pointing at the number 3.
02:11When the minute hand is pointing at the number 3 on an analogue clock, we say it is quarter past something,
02:18as the minute hand only travelled one quarter of the way around the clock.
02:24If you look at the hour hand, it has just passed the number 12.
02:31So this means the time on the clock is quarter past 12.
02:39On a digital clock, it would read 12.15 because we are in the 12th hour.
02:51And a quarter past means only 15 minutes has passed the hour since 15 minutes is a quarter of 60 minutes.
03:00Now that you have learned how to read quarter past times, let's practice reading the times on the clock coming up.
03:12So we can see that the minute hand is pointing at the number 3, so it is quarter past something.
03:22The hour hand is just past the 10, so that means it is quarter past 10, or 10.15.
03:40The minute hand is pointing at the number 3, so it must be called to pass something.
03:49The hour hand is just past the number 7, so it is quarter past 7, or 7.15.
04:08The minute hand is pointing at the number 3, so it must be quarter past something.
04:18And the hour hand is just past the number 4.
04:22So that means the time is quarter past 4, or 4.15.
04:27Keep it close to the number 3, so it is quarter past 7, or 9.15.
