Bahraich, UP – A gruesome incident has shaken Bahraich district after six bodies—including four children, a woman, and a man—were recovered from a house engulfed in flames in Teperaha village under Ramgaon police station limits. Four cattle were also killed.
According to police, house owner Vijay Maurya, a vegetable vendor, allegedly killed two minor boys—Sunny Verma and Suraj Yadav—with a sharp weapon before locking himself, his wife Dheeraj Kumari, and daughters Priyanshi and Riyanshi in a room. He then set it ablaze using gas cylinders. All inside were burnt alive.
A third child escaped as he had been sent away moments earlier.
Disturbingly, vermilion was found at the scene, sparking suspicions of occult motives, though officials have not confirmed this. Locals claim Maurya had been mentally unstable, particularly after losing an infant son two months ago, and had been behaving erratically.
Senior police and district officials rushed to the site. Forensic teams are examining the house while postmortems are awaited. Police are probing possible triggers, including mental health issues, family disputes, and agricultural tensions.
Security has been tightened with PAC deployment amid widespread shock during the Navratri festival season.
