00:00fantastic good afternoon my name is phil hewitt group arts editor at sussex newspapers well the
00:06brighton comedy festival is coming soon and taking part in it olaf falafel now you have nailed your
00:13colors to the mast as you say with the title of the show this is olaf falafel's stupidest super
00:19stupid show so far that's quite some claim this is stupid is it it is very stupid and i've made
00:26the title specifically lots of s's so it's more difficult for people with dentures not saying
00:32you've got dentures phil but people with dentures dentures may may find it difficult to pronounce
00:37right but the people with dentures are not your target audience are they well i do get a lot of
00:44grandparents bringing the grandkids and they do enjoy it yeah there are a couple of jokes in there
00:50that they can relate to some jokes about well for example there's there's joke there are jokes in
00:57there that some of the kids won't get and the grown-ups get and because they see their grown-ups
01:02laughing they think well that must have been funny and they laugh anyway so give me a little idea of
01:08the kinds of things you'll be talking about i i do know i do know um so there's gonna be rather than
01:18the types of things i can tell you broad themes okay so there's gonna be lots of jokes because i am
01:23an award-winning joke creator one the joke best joke of the edinburgh fringe i know i just saw that
01:29something to do with cauliflower and broccoli was it not yeah it was i keep randomly shouting out
01:35broccoli and cauliflower i think i might have florets um but talking of the grandparents uh my
01:43granddad he he actually got into a bit of trouble during the war because he swapped his company's
01:48rifles for trifles yeah he was court-martialed for deserting
01:53so that there will be jokes um there will be stupid videos there'll be audience participation
02:02there'll be yeah we'll do some pass the parcel but we will also be doing some drawing because
02:07i'm an illustrator as well as a comedian and i think we guess that yeah and well the background
02:13sort of gives that away but as part of the show i hand out paper and pencil you don't have to bring
02:18your own and we will all do like a step-by-step drawing because during lockdown not a lot of kids
02:24now can remember that because it was surprisingly so long ago um i did art classes online and they
02:31were hugely successful and popular and a lot of people who come to watch my shows tell me that they
02:38watched my art club during lockdown and so i carried the the drawing section into my comedy shows and
02:43it's probably when i do the show in the edinburgh festival i get a lot of people a lot of people
02:48came up to me this year and said we would love it if you just did an hour of drawing so i might i
02:52might at some point do a show that is just an hour of drawing but there is drawing there's jokes
02:56there's audience participation uh videos your show starts at 11 30 on a sunday morning that that
03:04suggests who you're aiming for now well you love children as an audience just because as you say
03:09no filter yeah they they are very similar to drunk audiences where they will shout things out they
03:16don't care their inhibitions they haven't kind of fully developed and they want to join in and if you
03:22are i don't know showing a video or a funny thing that happened when you were playing football they
03:28will shout out and say i play football or my cousin plays or so they they will quite happily join in um
03:34which can be a lot of fun and then can lead to other funny things happening so yeah they're they're
03:39a good they're very different so i do comedy for grown-ups as well as kids and they're they're a very
03:46different audience but equally rewarding fantastic well this is a lovely late sunday morning prospect
03:53sunday the 26th of october uh as part of the brighton dome comedy festival doors 11 a.m starts 11 30
04:02olav lovely to speak to you thank you lovely to speak to you cheers phil
