00:00Crystal Palace Park in South East London is one of the capital's most historic green
00:05spaces. It was created in the 1850s to house the Crystal Palace, the vast glass structure
00:12originally built for the Great Exhibition in Hyde Park. Although the palace itself was
00:17destroyed by a fire in 1936, the park remains a major landmark. Today, visitors know it
00:25for its Victorian dinosaur sculptures, the first of their kind anywhere in the world
00:30as well, and its landscaped gardens, lakes and sports facilities. The National Sports
00:36Centre, built in the 1960s, still stands in the heart of the park as well. Crystal Palace
00:41Park is also a cultural space, hosting concerts, community events and markets, and it continues
00:47to evolve with new regeneration plans aiming to restore its heritage today.
