The government has announced it will introduce mandatory digital ID cards - what are your reflections on the initiative?

00:00First of all, he's not asking us, because that would require a vote.
00:03He is imposing the idea of the ID card upon the people, regardless of whether we want it or not.
00:09I think there's a certain kind of strategic aspect to Keir Starmer's introduction of national ID cards.
00:17I can understand where that's coming from.
00:19I would rather not have an ID. Plus, I have a twin brother who's identical, so they can always get away with stuff.
00:25But if they've got an ID, then all the naughty stuff I do all the time, I'd get in a bit of bother.
00:30We totally surrendered our privacy once we decided to walk around the world with smartphones.
00:36I think digital ID cards are stupid, because we've been raised from primary school being told,
00:43don't put your full name and details on the Internet.
00:45We gave up our privacy years ago once we logged on.
00:48It's so much a lost cause now that I reckon the guy's just basically running on vapors.
00:52And hopefully by the time of the end of his parliament, the whole ID card situation will be an issue in the past.
