Culture secretary Lisa Nandy said the new digital ID system should not be confused with mandatory ID cards. She stressed people will not have to carry ID at all times. Instead, digital ID will be required to prove the right to work, which she said would protect British workers, while remaining optional for accessing services. Report by Covellm. 00:00We're very alive to the concerns around civil liberties and we want to be clear that this
00:05is not an ID card that people will be required to carry at all times. If you want to work
00:11in the UK you will have to show digital ID to prove that you have the right to do so,
00:17which helps to support British people by not undermining workers who have a legal right
00:22to work here. But you won't have to show this for every service that you want to access.
00:28This is a digital ID not an ID card and it's something that people will be able to choose
00:34to use to access services if they feel that that's an easier way to do so.
