Parts of Mt D'or experiencing water shortages for the past three years will have that rectified in six weeks. Here's the story
Transcript
00:00Certain parts of Mount Doan have been deprived of a basic necessity for years.
00:05I'm glad to see you all up here now because this pump here has been down for some years now.
00:11And due to the little help we used to get from Wasser by the tanks used to be installed for the people and then we could have come and get water.
00:18But not right through we used to be getting the water. We had to see if we could get through with this pump replaced.
00:25The MP Devish Maharaj was on site today for a joint visit with the Public Utilities Ministry and Wasser.
00:32Beyond here is a considerable amount of people live, especially going up the hill. You really need the booster station to push it up the hill.
00:39If you go higher, it starts to climb the hill.
00:42Wasser promises are fixed within six weeks but the acting Public Utilities Minister is calling it a shame for the former administration.
00:51We are in Mongdaw where this booster station was decommissioned under the former administration.
00:57And they took the pump and took it to another area and it was just part of a PR stunt.
01:02So the people of Mongdaw were left with very little or no water coming to their taps.
01:08And they would have given them communal tanks and sent truck-borne water after they decommissioned this booster station.
01:19So Minister Barry Padarat has committed to having this pump refurbished and to ensure that, as Minister Devish requested,
01:28his constituents will get their water supply returned to them.
01:32And what we are seeing is a continuation of mismanagement under the former government
01:37where they would take resources from one place to put to another place just for PR.
