00:00Here are some grades from the Sun-Sentinel regarding last night's Dolphins game.
00:05See if you agree with these.
00:07The run game, they give an A.
00:09Obviously, Devon Achan had a monster game once again.
00:1320 carries, 99 yards, one touchdown.
00:17He had a productive night, as did the Dolphins' offense.
00:22Center Aaron Brewer, right guard Cole Strange,
00:25and left guard Jonah Savainaya did a good job versus the Jets.
00:30And on the downside, Chris Perkins writes in the Sun-Sentinel,
00:34running back Ollie Gordon had seven carries for only 10 yards,
00:38and ideally the Dolphins want him to have more carries, more yards.
00:43But he gives the run game an A. Would you agree?
00:46Yes.
00:48Devon Achan, you have Achan on your team.
00:50He's a monster.
00:52He gets the ball in his hands.
00:53He makes something happen.
00:54I am so impressed with him.
00:56Man, he juked out four people in a two-yard span.
01:00It was crazy.
01:01They get shut out week one, if it's not for Devon Achan.
01:06The pass game, Chris Perkins in the Sun-Sentinel gives the Dolphins an A.
01:11The story here is Hill's knee injury, but let's move past that briefly.
01:14Tua, 17 of 25, 177 yards, two touchdowns, no INTs, no sacks, 114.9 passer rating was efficient.
01:25Tight end Darren Waller was impressive.
01:28Wide receiver Jalen Waddell was good enough.
01:31Pass protection was strong, but Hill obviously is going to be missed greatly.
01:36He made everyone better, including Waddell, Tua, and McDaniel as a play caller.
01:43But aside from the injury, which happens, he gives the pass game last night an A.
01:48Amazing, and the Darren Waller red zone stuff was very smart.
01:55Mike McDaniel went in his bag last night with that rollout stuff we were talking about.
01:59He just, to OG's point, can we do that in the field?
02:03I don't know, but in the red zone, I think that rollout stuff would be pretty good.
02:06Yeah, now you've got a legit target, and man, that first touchdown catch that he came down with,
02:13I mean, it seems like there's nothing you can't throw in his area.
02:17It's like Arande himself.
02:18There's nothing you can't throw in his area that he's not going to come down with.
02:21How long have we been saying all our receivers are itsy-bitsy spiders?
02:25Now we have a gigantic target in the end zone.
02:29The run defense, D-.
02:33Allowing the Jets, led by Justin Fields and Brees Hall, who each rushed for 81 yards,
02:39to have 28 carries for 197 yards, 7 yards per carry, and one touchdown is unacceptable.
02:46This would be a failing grade, except cornerback Jack Jones forced a fumble.
02:52Jack Jones on running back Braylon Allen nearing the goal line on a play that saved a touchdown.
02:58The Dolphins entered the game 29th in rushing defense, and they got worse.
03:04Linebackers Jordan Brooks and Terrell Dodson had good numbers, as did Zach Seeler and Jones,
03:11who had five tackles apiece, but the Dolphins must be better.
03:15They're now 30th in the league in rushing defense at 158 yards per game.
03:22Brooks, Dodson, and Gay.
03:24Hey, I really thought we had some linebackers now, and I'm not telling you, it's not telling you anything you don't know.
03:31To be 30th against the run, those three guys can't be that good.
03:36The pass defense, Perk gives them a B-.
03:40Minus, Dolphins had two sacks, three quarterback hits, and three passes defended while allowing fields.
03:4720 of 27, 226 yards, one touchdown, no interceptions, 111 passer rating.
03:52To play well, but not well enough to win.
03:55Wide receiver Garrett Wilson, six receptions, 82 yards, and a tutty.
03:59Tight end Mason Taylor.
04:01Mason Taylor's son, five receptions, 65 yards.
04:04We're both productive.
04:05The Dolphins' secondary, cornerbacks Jones, Rasul Douglas, and Cornell Armstrong, along with safeties Minka Fitzpatrick, Ashton Davis, Ify Melifonwu, and Dante Trader Jr.
04:17did what it could as defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver searched for five defensive back combinations, some of which were effective.
04:27Field's 43-yard touchdown run goes against the run defense because it was on a scramble.
04:32I, uh, Anthony Weaver's defense, I'm starting to question.
04:38It was funny.
04:39At the, at the beginning of the game yesterday, I was saying, I think I may have texted you guys, like, fire McDaniel.
04:45Maybe we're focusing on the wrong coach here because that defense for as much pub as it had gotten coming into this season, they have come up woefully short.
04:57They got it together.
04:57The Jack Jones punch out, again, I don't know if that's coaching or if that's, you know, Jack Jones taking Anthony Weaver to heart, saying, got to play violent.
05:05All right, let's punch it out.
05:06You guys just had Peanut Tillman on the, uh, on the pivot.
05:09You talked about the peanut punch.
05:10Um, so there were a couple of plays where they forced turnovers, which was what Anthony Weaver was looking for, but man, it was dicey at the beginning.
05:19That was a Jack Jones individual effort play.
05:23Brees Hall was about to get a 11-yard rushing touchdown.
05:28That was a gash of the defense.
05:30Jack just came out of nowhere and got a good play in.
05:32And it's just, Solana brought up last week, number one in blitz rate, number 32 in pressure rate.
05:41What's the, what's the answer?
05:42You're not, you're not figuring out how to beat their cup, beat their protection.
05:47If you're sending two off one side and they know it's coming and they have two guys to block them, you didn't trick them.
05:51You might as well sit back with seven deep because you're not tricking anybody.
05:54That, that speech from Anthony Weaver, the impassioned speech about, you know, I sit up here, I'm a nice guy, but I'm old school.
06:02Let's go be violent.
06:04Omar told us yesterday that it almost felt like an audition for him to be the interim head coach.
06:11He highlighted all the things that are different about him than McDaniel.
06:16And a lot of those traits are critiques of Mike McDaniel, right?
06:20Like he's an old school football guy.
06:22He's violent.
06:23He's not afraid to yell at his guys, but part of that might be true.
06:27I also think he was speaking directly to his defensive lineman Crowder.
06:33They highlighted it yesterday.
06:35Louis Riddick, the dolphins rush for, they don't get any pressure on the quarterback.
06:40I don't know if Bradley Chubb and Jalen Phillips, I know Chubb has three sacks this year.
06:44I don't know if Bradley Chubb and Jalen Phillips, because of the injuries, just need a little bit more time to kind of ingratiate themselves back into, you know,
06:52the day-to-day of a game.
06:54But, bro, like Zach Seeler played a little bit better yesterday, but if the dolphins don't blitz, they don't get pressure on the quarterback.
07:01And that was supposed to be the strong suit of this defense.
07:05I like, so I don't know if it's the linebackers per se, but man, you guys know we all love Jalen Phillips down here.
07:14Doesn't have a sack yet this year.
07:16He doesn't have a tackle for a loss through four games.
07:19Like that, that's an issue.
07:20And Zach Seeler, you know, the boneheaded play against Buffalo, but still a lot to be desired there.
07:26And Kenneth Grant, your rookie, hasn't looked outstanding either.
07:30Like, to me, that's the biggest question mark.
07:33If those guys can't play better and be more consistent, you're going to, like, that's why the run defense looks bad.
07:39Those guys up front.
07:41Yes, that's 100% with the linemen.
07:43The front four.
07:44When they don't send pressure, they don't get pressure.
07:47When they do send pressure, they don't get pressure.
07:50Right.
07:52It's the difference.
07:53Don't send pressure.
07:54Just leave more people to cover.
07:56Go double team somebody.
07:57Why would you rush when they're going to block you anyway?
08:01Finally, in the Sun Sentinel coaching, he gives the coaching an A last night.
08:07Credit Mike McDaniel and his staff, led by Anthony Weaver, offensive coordinator Frank Smith,
08:13and special teams coordinator Craig Aukerman, for keeping the Dolphins focused on the main thing,
08:18defeating the Jets, instead of things such as being 0-3 or McDaniel's job security.
08:24McDaniel's balanced offense had 31 runs, 25 passes, a good combination,
08:29and the defense and special teams turned in their best performances.
08:33One thing you can say, Crowder.
08:35When we thought maybe Mike McDaniel had lost this team after week one,
08:40they did get a little better week two.
08:43I remember pointing it out.
08:44They go down 14-0, or they go down two touchdowns.
08:47I think it was 12-0.
08:48But they go down two touchdowns, and they didn't quit.
08:51They come back.
08:51They make it a game.
08:53And then they go to Buffalo, short week, and they make it a game, the entire game.
08:57And then they go and last night get their first victory.
09:01They never quit on Mike McDaniel.
09:04I thought that was a real possibility after week one, and it didn't happen.
09:09And so I do think kudos to him.
09:11He has kind of stayed the course, and they rewarded him with a victory last night.
09:18Yeah, I'm with you on that.
09:19They haven't given up on him.
09:20And I think he, especially last night, he was in his play-calling bag with the rollouts.
09:25Like, we were all surprised that Tua was moving.
09:27A little backwards flip from Tua.
09:28Tua, you know I love a little whirling dervish added to the offense.
09:32We used to always whirling dervish.
09:34We stopped whirling dervishing.
09:36We got to get more whirling dervish.
09:37The little flea flickers, the no-look passes in the red zone.
09:41We were used to that, and we just stopped it.
09:44Yeah, it was fun last night.
09:45There was a vibe last night.
09:47There was an old Mike McDaniel vibe last night that you had in seasons one and two.
09:51You finally got that vibe back.
10:01So now we're back on to the boss.
10:02I'm with you.
10:03I love you.
10:04I love you.
10:05You're watching the boss.
10:07I love you.
10:08But the ska is doing one.
10:10It's fine.
10:10I've got some more information.
10:11It's fine.
10:12I love you.
10:13Let's drive to the right.
