Crime Family Sentenced in China for Running Myanmar Scam Centers

A Chinese court has sentenced 39 members of an organized crime family to punishments including the death penalty for running a network of scam centers, casinos and drug operations in Myanmar.

00:21The court determined the family enslaved, tortured and killed workers to keep them in

00:24line.

00:25The victims were freed in 2023 when China-backed rebel groups drove the Myanmar military from

00:30the area.

00:31But other organized crime groups continue to run scam centers in Southeast Asia, including

00:36in Cambodia.
