China prosecutes 39 members of major telecom fraud gangs in northern Myanmar

00:00China has pressed charges against some 39 individuals linked to notorious syndicates

00:07in northern Myanmar for telecommunications fraud, homicide, drug trafficking and other

00:12crimes.

00:14Prosecutors in Wenzhou City are spearheading the cases which involved cross-border crimes

00:19targeting Chinese citizens.

00:21There are a lot of members of the criminal group that are related to the Ming family.

00:26There are thousands of them.

00:29The main members of the criminal group, including the main culprits responsible for the death

00:34of Chinese citizens, 39 of whom are under the supervision of the Wenzhou People's Procuratorate.

00:41The other thousands of criminals are under the jurisdiction of the Wenzhou City District

00:45Court and the National Procuratorate.

00:48There are 16 Myanmar citizens in this case.

00:51But they committed serious crimes such as intentional killing in Myanmar.

00:56Because the target of the crime is Chinese citizens.

00:59According to Article 8 of the Criminal Law of China, the protection of jurisdiction,

01:03China has the right to exercise jurisdiction.

01:05In addition, they used telecommunication networks abroad to carry out fraud against Chinese

01:10citizens, set up online gambling houses to bribe Chinese citizens, and organized Chinese

01:15women to go out to sell silver.

01:17The prosecutors said the accused are linked to the family-run Ming syndicate founded by

01:22the late Mai-Shout Hakyan, who was a former member of Myanmar's Shan State Parliament.

01:28They said they are seeking death penalty for the accused whose actions were brutal and

01:33had endangered public safety.

01:35They said they had examined over 1,100 volumes of files, nearly 15,000 evidences, and more

01:42than 50 terabytes of data to build a case against the suspects.
