00:00I'm back, boys!
00:02In the world of WWE, it's never goodbye.
00:06There was never anyone any better.
00:08It's see you later.
00:09It's the Hall of Faber herself!
00:12From the unimaginable...
00:14What?! Holy !
00:16To the unbelievable...
00:18You think you know me?
00:20No, no way!
00:22Edge is here!
00:24Today we look back at the greatest professional wrestling shocking comebacks in history.
00:29This is WWE's Greatest Moments.
00:33Acknowledge me!
00:38Oh, God! No call to the beer man!
00:41This is surreal!
00:44Look at this!
00:45It's landed!
00:52Welcome, everyone, to WWE's Greatest Moments.
00:56I'm Michael Cole.
00:57And on this edition, we're looking back at some of the greatest comebacks that professional wrestling has ever seen.
01:03He's back! He's back!
01:06Let's kick things off in an electrifying manner.
01:09The most electrifying man in sports entertainment, The Rock, had left WWE in 2004 to pursue a very successful career in Hollywood.
01:18The Scorpio King, number one again this week, indeed, the number one movie in America!
01:24But when WrestleMania 27 needed a guest host, The Great One couldn't pass up the opportunity to come back home.
01:33We've been expecting the host of this year's WrestleMania to arrive here on Monday Night Raw!
01:42The rumors of who was gonna host WrestleMania were, you know, everywhere.
01:48We didn't want this getting out.
01:50Whoever they bring out, he gonna be that dude, lo and behold.
01:54If you smash!
01:56Oh, my! The Rock is here!
02:04The goal to come back, the reason was simply the fans.
02:09And to watch them respond the way they did.
02:13Finally, The Rock has come back!
02:18Home!
02:21People were talking about and making fun of John Cena.
02:24You come out here with your bright-ass purple shirt, your bright green shirt.
02:28Before that, your bright orange shirt.
02:29You're running around here looking like a big fat bowl of fruity pebbles!
02:32The Rock called me a fruity pebble.
02:36Got a f***ing serial sponsorship with that.
02:39That's excellent.
02:41He came back, and it was so special.
02:46The connection with the audience, after seven years of being away, was very, very special.
02:54There's no question that one of the biggest superstars of the modern era is Becky Lynch.
02:59A man has quite simply done it all and conquered everything she sets out to accomplish.
03:04May of 2020, Lynch announced to the world that she was pregnant and would be stepping away from the squared circle.
03:09You go and be a warrior, because I'm going to go be a mother.
03:15But just how long would it be until we saw Becky Lynch again?
03:19There was, I believe, a medical issue that caused Bianca's opponent to have to pull out of SummerSlam, and it was a huge moment and extremely unexpected.
03:31Sasha Banks is unable to compete this evening.
03:36Las Vegas is incredibly disappointed.
03:41What?!
03:46Yes! One of the biggest stars on the planet!
03:53Becky was someone that I always wanted to work with.
03:55What do you say the EST and the man blow the roof off this joint?
04:02As happy as they were to see me at the beginning of that match, 26 seconds later, they were going to wish that I never returned.
04:11And Becky Lynch! Becky Lynch is taking care of business with a manhandled slam! Cover of Belair! Lynch wins the title! Lynch wins the title!
04:25For Becky Lynch to go away and have a baby and come back, and it's like she never missed a beat, that was so inspiring.
04:33What the hell just happened?!
04:35She showed that women do not have to stay in a box.
04:39You can have it all.
04:41Baby, I'm back!
04:45At the 1994 Royal Rumble, we saw the unthinkable.
04:49The Undertaker was locked inside a casket by several WWE superstars.
04:54But a resurrection was upon us.
04:55I will not rest in peace.
04:56Hoping to pull the wool over everyone's eyes, the million-dollar man Ted DiBiase brought the dead man back to WWE. Or did he?
05:12Paul Bearer! He's claiming that you don't have the real Undertaker!
05:17Heading into SummerSlam, long-time manager Paul Bearer promised to deliver the real deal.
05:22Your Undertaker against my Undertaker at SummerSlam!
05:34Surely a one-of-a-kind matchup, ladies and gentlemen, as Ted DiBiase's Undertaker makes his way to the square circle.
05:43Ted DiBiase claimed that he had acquired the services of The Undertaker.
05:50But the rest of us are waiting for the true Undertaker.
05:53It's The Undertaker, big man!
05:55I just remember it being a spectacle. The production and everything is done so big.
05:59And I remember Paul Bearer with the urn and the giant light.
06:02The spirit of The Undertaker! And wait a minute!
06:04And oh, my goodness!
06:13Now that's The Undertaker!
06:15Man, when he came out of that purple and stood up to The Underfaker, I thought it was awesome.
06:21Ted DiBiase's bogus gray glove taker versus the original Undertaker in the new purple.
06:27The Undertaker!
06:30Oh, yeah! Oh, a suplex!
06:32Oh, yeah!
06:34That could do it right there!
06:37Bogus Undertaker gets exposed in a matter of minutes.
06:40It was exciting, and it was great to be back.
06:43To be a WWE superstar, one must possess a certain grit to be the very best.
06:52In October 2007, John Cena suffered a completely torn pectoral muscle.
06:57Two, three, here we go!
06:59The prognosis was that he would miss action for at least six months.
07:03And as they say, you can't keep a good man down.
07:06And at the 2008 Royal Rumble, the WWE Universe counted down to our 30th entry.
07:13It's a moment that still has Madison Square Garden buzzing.
07:22Who's number 30?
07:25What? Wait a minute!
07:27What the hell? What is this?
07:31It's John Cena!
07:32He was saying like this, and he looked up and he smiled.
07:38I've never heard anything that was louder.
07:41The roof is exploding off of Madison Square Garden!
07:46He was supposed to be out for a year, and he's back in three months.
07:51I made extreme gains very fast and called everybody up and was like,
07:55hey, I think I'm ready to go.
07:57There is no tough guy award.
07:58It's down to Cena and the game!
08:02The whole time we were in the ring, I just ate goosebumps.
08:04So badass.
08:06Oh, you see the strength!
08:07And Cena does it!
08:09Oh!
08:11WWE superstars have an amazing tendency to prove the experts wrong by coming back much sooner than anyone else would.
08:20A superhuman display of physical strength by John Cena!
08:30When you think of the greatest tag teams of all time, you have to put the Hardy Boys right at the top of that list.
08:35Matt and Jeff literally changed the game and became a beloved fixture of WWE for decades.
08:43But in 2010, the Hardy Brothers left WWE and pursued other career opportunities.
08:48This is not goodbye forever.
08:51This is only goodbye for now.
08:54But would we ever see the Hardys in WWE again?
09:00Welcome to WrestleMania!
09:03The title's hanging high above the ring in this Raw Tag Team Championship ladder match!
09:10Ladies and gentlemen, this ladder match has now become a fatal four-way!
09:19It's very rare that you have a legitimate surprise where people don't know this is going to be happening.
09:25We made people think that we were coming out in order to be in this three-way match.
09:30But then all of a sudden...
09:32What's...
09:34Oh, my!
09:37Matt and Jeff!
09:39The Hardy Boys are here!
09:41You gotta be kidding me!
09:43When you hear that reaction, you don't just hear it, you feel it.
09:45It was just like exactly where we were supposed to be in that moment.
09:50The Hardys have completely turned this match on its head!
09:54Twist of faith!
09:56From the top of the ladder!
09:58Jeff Hardy!
10:00The Thrill Seeker!
10:02Bob!
10:04Bob!
10:06And now Matt Hardy at the top of the ladder!
10:08The Hardy Boys are second-time champions!
10:11There's that shot I love at the end, whenever I pull down that first title, you just see everybody stand up in the back and they're so genuinely excited.
10:19One of the greatest WrestleMania moments ever!
10:22Everybody was just so cool and happy that we were there.
10:25When it comes to moments, that's up there, man. It might be number one in my opinion.
10:28But to walk back out there, into our home, where Matt and Jeff Hardy were truly born, and to get that kind of reception, it's really amazing.
10:36Welcome home, Matt and Jeff!
10:39The 1980s saw a boom period for professional wrestling across the board, including WWE's biggest rival promotion, WCW.
10:52One of WCW's top stars of the day was the total package, Lex Luger.
10:56But in 1993, Luger left to join WWE in his successful primetime cable show, Monday Night Raw.
11:05Not to be outdone, WCW began its very own primetime cable show to go head-to-head with WWE on Monday nights.
11:12WCW, Monday Nitro!
11:14In the very first episode, one of the most shocking comebacks ever took place in a moment that made WCW must-see television.
11:24The Mall of America, the only building big enough to hold the debut edition!
11:32The elements of surprise, the spontaneity of the show, that's what Nitro represented.
11:37They flew me in that same day and did hide me at a hotel, and they waited till like 30 minutes before the show started, brought me in with like towels around my head to a back door.
11:47It was definitely a big, big shocker for the wrestling fans.
11:51Later on in this live debut broadcast!
11:56What in the hell is he doing here?
11:59Get the camera off of him!
12:02Get him on it! Get the camera off of him!
12:04What is this?
12:05It's a very well-kept secret.
12:06He had jumped ship.
12:08People are freaking out.
12:09He's cleaning house!
12:11Wait, Luger's in there!
12:12What is that?
12:13Get in the ring!
12:14Watch Luger!
12:16He's holding Luger!
12:17He's holding Luger!
12:18He's holding Luger!
12:20Whoa!
12:21Wait a minute!
12:22It really set us up for great, great success because there was already controversy.
12:28This is the most amazing turn of events I have ever seen!
12:31In 2016, personal differences between Cody Rhodes and WWE led to Cody leaving the company seemingly forever.
12:40With Rhodes thriving in his outside ventures, many fans thought they'd never see him back in WWE again.
12:47Or would they?
12:48Seth Rollins has no clue who his opponent will be here tonight.
12:57There were so many rumors swirling about who my opponent was going to be.
13:01Come on, let's go!
13:02Let's go!
13:03Wrestling has won.
13:04Let's go!
13:05Wrestling has won.
13:06Let's go!
13:07Let's go!
13:08Cody!
13:09Oh, my God!
13:10Cody!
13:11Oh, my God!
13:12Cody!
13:13My eyes met a lot of people's eyes, and it was just a beautiful experience.
13:15The prodigal son has returned!
13:16I was in some ways a fan like everybody else trying to, you know, soak in the surreal nature of the scene that we were seeing.
13:25It's a special thing to be a part of, and I was very happy to be able to facilitate it in some way, shape, or form.
13:32I was sort of like looking around, and everyone's face was just like...
13:35Crossroads!
13:36One, two, three!
13:37One, two, three!
13:38One!
13:39One!
13:40One!
13:41One!
13:42One!
13:43One!
13:44One!
13:45One!
13:46One!
13:47One!
13:48One!
13:49One!
13:50One!
13:51One!
13:52One!
13:53One!
13:54One!
13:59Two!
14:00And Seth, freaking Rollins, WrestleMania dreams, became a nightmare!
14:04I had anticipated I would never come back to WWE.
14:07It's still surreal to me.
14:10What a moment for Cody Rhodes!
14:17It's not a day!
14:19The best in the world, CM Punk, is certainly no stranger to controversy.
14:23I'm breaking the fourth wall.
14:25The outspoken Chicago superstar has made a legendary career by sticking to his guns and speaking his mind.
14:31I am the best in the world!
14:34So when CM Punk left WWE in 2014, it was all but a certainty we'd never ever see him again.
14:41But with Survivor Series 2023 taking place in his hometown of Chicago, one must learn to never say never.
14:53Me coming back in Chicago, it's a scary, daunting thought.
15:02Crossroads!
15:05Cover!
15:07Orkney Company win!
15:10Do I still got it?
15:11Are they going to remember me?
15:13Are they going to care?
15:18Whoa!
15:20Whoa!
15:23And returning to WWE after all these years, like, why his music was playing, it was like, what's happening?
15:38It has been quite the night in Chicago!
15:42Electric, to say the least!
15:46He's an agent!
15:47I don't really have the words to explain, like, how that moment makes me feel.
15:53I mean, there's a big part of me that's still there.
15:56I left a huge part of me in that moment.
15:59He's an agent!
16:01He's an agent!
16:03He's an agent!
16:04He's an agent!
16:04He's an agent!
16:05He's an agent!
16:06Oh!
16:07Oh!
16:07Oh!
16:07Oh!
16:08Oh!
16:08Oh!
16:08Oh!
16:09Oh!
16:09Oh!
16:10Oh!
16:10Oh!
16:11Oh!
16:11Oh!
16:12Oh!
16:13Oh!
16:14Oh!
16:15Oh!
16:16reversing the game has certainly made a Hall of Fame career out of being the very best!
16:20So, in 2001 the cerebral assassin pushed through a career-altering quadriceps tear
16:25and finished the match!
16:27Triple H went through 8 months of intense rehabilitation to get back to the stage he loved.
16:33It was indeed a beautiful day on January 7, 2002, when the game made his triumphant comeback
16:39To WWE, to a thunderous ovation inside Madison Square Garden.
17:09I remember just getting a rush. Like, it was just so loud. It was overwhelming. You know, it really was, emotionally, for me, overwhelming.
17:23This is as loud as a sustained roar I have ever heard in Madison Square Garden!
17:31The crowd went nuts for him. They showed him that they love him and they appreciate him.
17:35That crosses over into a very real territory of how much the wrestling fans appreciate you as a human being and a performer.
17:43I am the game!
17:47It was a validation of everything else I'd ever done. You just can't top it.
17:54And you can bet your ass I'm back!
17:57It's now time for our number one comeback of all time. And it's a moment long-time fans like myself will never, ever forget.
18:10There was no bigger WWE superstar in the mid-90s than Bret the Hitman Hart.
18:17The excellence of execution proved on a nightly basis that he was certainly the bester is, the bester was, and the bester ever will be.
18:24But controversy surrounded Bret in his last WWE match at Survivor Series, 1997.
18:32What?
18:33McMahon said ring the bell!
18:35Wait a minute!
18:37Bret Hart had been screwed out of the WWE Championship, and out of WWE.
18:42Bret Hart, I ran his ass out of the World Wrestling Federation!
18:47Many fans thought we'd never see the Hitman back home.
18:54Making his first appearance on Raw in over 12 years, Bret the Hitman Hart!
19:17The time that he had away from WWE, I know it was really hard on him.
19:24I got 12 years of things that I've wanted to get off my chest, and the very first thing I want to do, Shawn Michaels to come out here!
19:34I didn't speak to Bret or see him for easily more than a decade.
19:38Carrying that burden for both of us in different ways was, you know, was heavy.
19:42You're not the only one that's been carrying this around for 12 years.
19:47We're both tired of fighting each other and having this ill will.
19:51My career and your career shouldn't always be tagged by what happened at Survivor Series.
19:56If you want to bury the hatchet, let's bury it right now!
19:59It was like a big giant weight carrying around all that anger and grief.
20:14The best thing I ever did was to make peace with it.
20:16A moment many WWE fans never thought they would ever see.
20:25The Hitman, back where he belongs.
20:28One thing's for sure, there's no place like home.
20:32That'll do it for this edition of WWE's Greatest Moments.
20:36I hope you've enjoyed this look back at the greatest comebacks ever seen in professional wrestling.
20:40Oh!
