00:41U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance has confirmed that the U.S. is considering providing Kyiv with Tomahawk missiles,
00:48as Moscow continues to refuse bilateral and trilateral peace talks brokered by President Donald Trump.
00:54According to reports, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had asked the United States to sell tomahawks to European nations that would send them to Ukraine.
01:04We're certainly looking at a number of requests from the Europeans.
01:08And one of the things, again, that I think has really worked about the president's policy in Ukraine and Russia is that it's forced the Europeans to step up in a big way.
01:16So as you know, Martha, we're no longer just giving tons of money and weapons.
01:20What we're doing is asking the Europeans to buy that weaponry.
01:24Meanwhile, U.S. Special Envoy to Ukraine Keith Kellogg said the Trump administration would authorize long-range strikes by Ukraine into Russia.
01:32I think reading what he has said and reading what Vice President Vance has said, as well as Secretary Rubio, the answer is yes.
01:41Use the ability to hit deep. There are no such things as sanctuaries.
01:44That's one of the reasons I believe that this last week, and it has been confirmed,
01:49that President Zelenskyy asked President Trump to get Tomahawk missiles, which gives you depth.
01:54Both decisions are likely coming as the impatience grows at the White House over Russia's stance regarding the direct talks with Ukraine,
02:03aimed at putting an end to Moscow's ongoing all-out war.
02:06At least four people were killed and more than 70 others were injured as Russia carried out a major offensive on Ukraine overnight into Sunday.
02:19The attack targeted multiple cities, but was heaviest on the capital, Kiev, in the southeastern city of Zaporizhia.
02:26Regional officials in Zaporizhia say the attacks injured more than two dozen people, to varying degrees, among them three children.
02:34In Kyiv, four people were killed, including a 12-year-old child, as Moscow pummeled the city with drones and various types of missiles.
02:42Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskyy slammed the strikes and accused Russia of deliberately targeting civilians to incite fear and terror.
02:50He also accused Moscow of making a statement on their position regarding ending the war,
02:55after it received a wave of international condemnation at the UN General Assembly.
03:00The Ukrainian leader urged allies again to exert more pressure on Russia to bring the full-scale invasion of his country,
03:07well into its fourth year, to an end.
03:10He also called on allies to heed U.S. President Donald Trump's plan and halt Russian energy purchases,
03:17to choke the Kremlin's finances and force them to the negotiating table.
03:20Moldova's pro-European party, led by President Maia Sandu, has claimed victory in a high-stakes parliamentary election,
03:30a vote seen as pivotal for the country's future in the European Union.
03:34The Party of Action and Solidarity won around 48% of the vote, ahead of its pro-Russia rivals.
03:41The result amounts to securing a majority in Moldova's 101-seat parliament.
03:47Pro-Russian opposition leader Igor Dodon had urged supporters to rally even before results came in,
03:54although Sandu's party now looks set to dominate the new parliament.
03:58The weeks leading up to the election were marred by tension and allegations of Russian interference.
04:04Authorities reported bomb threats against polling stations abroad, voter bribery and plots to cause mass unrest.
04:13Three suspects from the breakaway region of Transnistria were detained.
04:17For its part, Moscow has denied accusations of meddling in the election.
04:21Denmark has banned all civilian drone flights after drones were again observed at several military facilities over the weekend.
04:34The Danish Transportation Ministry said the ban is aimed at removing the risk that enemy drones are confused with legal ones and vice versa.
04:42On Sunday, Denmark's Defence Ministry reported new drone sightings,
04:48a day after it had several capacities deployed following separate sightings on Saturday.
04:54Danish Transportation Minister Thomas Danielson said that security will be a main focus during the upcoming European summit in Copenhagen.
05:03Tensions have been running high in Denmark following multiple reports of drone sightings last week
05:08that temporarily forced Danish airports to shut down.
05:12While it's not clear who was behind the drone activity,
05:16Denmark's Prime Minister and NATO Secretary General said last week that Russian involvement couldn't be ruled out.
05:26A gunman opened fire inside a Michigan church on Sunday before apparently setting the building on fire,
05:33killing at least four people and injuring eight others, U.S. authorities said.
05:37The suspect, a 40-year-old male, was then fatally shot by police, they added.
05:44The attack in Grand Blanc on the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints,
05:49also known as the Mormon Church,
05:51occurred while hundreds of people were attending a Sunday service.
05:56Police said they did not yet have a motive for the arson and shooting attack,
06:00but said investigators were searching the suspect's residence in nearby Burton.
06:04Two bodies were found during a search of the debris,
06:08and authorities said more victims could be found as searches made their way through the entire church.
06:14U.S. President Donald Trump condemned the shooting, calling it horrendous.
06:19Trump said the FBI will be leading the federal investigation.
06:22An American citizen held by the Taliban is finally heading home.
06:29Qatari mediators secured the release of Amir Amiri from Afghan prison,
06:34the fifth U.S. citizen to be freed this year.
06:37Amiri, seen here in blue, is believed to have been detained since December 2024,
06:42though the reason remains unclear.
06:44Qatari's Ministry of Foreign Affairs says its mediation efforts are aimed at finding peaceful solutions
06:48to conflicts and disputes worldwide.
06:51The release comes less than two weeks after Qatari helped free a British couple
06:55jailed for several months in Afghanistan.
06:58U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Amiri's release marks an important step forward,
07:03but added that several more Americans still remain unjustly detained in Afghanistan.
07:08He also thanked Qatari diplomats for what he calls their tireless efforts in securing Amiri's release.
07:13Adil Halim, Euronews, Doha.
07:15On the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York last week,
07:22Secretary General of Humanitarian Aid Network Caritas International, Alistair Dutton,
07:27spoke about the serious challenges the UN currently faces.
07:30We're here at the United Nations, and it's the 80th anniversary of the United Nations,
07:36which really is the time when states came together to craft international law or strengthen international law
07:43as a way of building peace and trying to forge peace between nations.
07:48It's clearly a very difficult time for that,
07:51and those norms of international law, of multilateralism, are being stretched,
07:58and world leaders are perhaps not treating them with the respect that they have in the past.
08:07We see states playing with the fringes or challenging the application of international law,
08:13but we have to stay strong to those, and the United Nations stands as the custodian of those norms of international law,
08:21and we absolutely have to strengthen those and keep working to get them reinforced
08:26and brought back to the force that they've had in the past.
08:29It has been instrumental.
08:34NATO and its allies want to bring defence tech companies to the battlefield,
08:39at least for training.
08:40At NATO's annual exercise, RETMAS in Portugal,
08:44they're testing maritime unmanned systems, including drones.
08:48This year, 24 countries are participating,
08:51and for the first time, Ukraine's navy is involved.
08:54For the past three weeks, allies have split into red and blue teams
08:58to carry out missions against each other.
09:01Ukraine's been on the red team.
09:03One of the important things here we have during this exercise
09:06is the first expression of the Ukrainian navy.
09:07I think it's important to know how they work and how they use their systems
09:12and how they use their force,
09:14because they do it in a very simple way.
09:17We have systems much more complex, much more expensive than they use,
09:22and they are very efficient.
09:24Another novelty this year is daily jamming trials
09:27to test drones in combat-like environments.
09:30There's also a Free Tech Zone,
09:32a 2,600-square-kilometre area
09:35where companies, academics and the military can freely experiment.
09:40This has included a nuclear submarine, drones and mine detectors
09:44to protect sub-sea cables.
09:46Germany's Rheinmetall is displaying its hero system,
09:50a kamikaze drone.
09:51We can launch from 60 kilometres away
09:54and be far away from the target,
09:56but it's no harm's way to the super journey.
09:59A charge will be dry.
10:00Meanwhile, the French company AK Heroes
10:02has been carrying out missions almost every day.
10:05Their plug-in technology can be applied to drones,
10:08which then uses AI to analyse what is happening on the ground.
10:12It's nearly impossible to jam.
10:15As everybody knows, the war in Ukraine has changed everything.
10:18We are now entering a paradigm of asymmetric warfare everywhere,
10:23so the little drones,
10:25the ground drones or navy drones or UAVs,
10:29are very critical in this kind of warfare,
10:31and they embed more and more AI.
10:34And so what we are witnessing here at Plankus
10:37is the change of this paradigm with a new warfare
10:40which is made of very agile and very fast.
10:42Back at the base, the red and blue teams
10:45analyse what's going on in real time.
10:48It's here where decisions are made.
10:50To have the command and control
10:52and to have the video, the real position of the units,
10:57it's a different way to fight.
10:59So right now with the digital tasking,
11:03I can task and retask the assets in flight.
11:08I can assign different areas.
11:09I can see what is happening in the theatre.
11:14So as you can see,
11:16it's for command and control,
11:18it's improving a lot.
11:21He wouldn't declare a winner,
11:23but said Ukraine's providing valuable lessons
11:26as allies develop new tactics.
