Lighter winds and clearer skies will allow for the formation of a few mist and fog patches this morning in the southeast, before the arrival of some bright spells of sunshine in the afternoon prior to a build up of cloud across much of England and Wales. A different picture in the northwest of the UK where there is thick cloud, outbreaks of rain and breezy conditions, especially across eastern Northern Ireland where the rain could be quite heavy. - This is the Met Office UK weather forecast for the morning of 30/09/2025. Bringing you today’s forecast is Aidan McGivern.

00:00Hello, a very good morning to you.
00:02Big contrast once again across the United Kingdom.
00:05It's a mild but gloomy and damp start to the day for parts of northern Western Scotland
00:10and Northern Ireland.
00:11Outbreaks of rain on and off.
00:12Further south and east, lighter winds and clearer skies overnight have allowed the formation
00:16of a few mist and fog patches, particularly the south of England.
00:20They clear by mid-morning and then bright spells into the afternoon, although there will be
00:24some build-up of cloud, giving the odd spot of rain for Wales and northwest England.
00:29Otherwise it's mostly fine for England and Wales.
00:31I think for Scotland and Northern Ireland, it's a different story.
00:35Cloud, breeze and outbreaks of rain continuing on and off, easing off for some time compared
00:40with the morning, but there will be more wet weather later.
00:42The one exception there, the northeast and east of Scotland, where we see some broken
00:47cloud and actually relatively mild conditions because of the fern effect where the wind travels
00:53over higher ground to the south and west and warms up.
00:56So 18 Celsius, 19 Celsius possible in some spots in the east of Scotland, 20 Celsius towards
01:02the southeast, feeling pleasant enough.
01:04Not feeling so pleasant as we end the day across Northern Ireland and Western Scotland,
01:08where the rain turns heavier and more persistent.
01:11It then spreads widely across Scotland overnight.
01:15Some of it spills into the north of England as well as north Wales.
01:20But for the rest of England and Wales, clear spells continue and once again that will allow temperatures
01:25to fall into the mid-single figures in places.
01:27Some mist and fog by dawn.
01:30That mist and fog tending to stick around for the first few hours of the day.
01:34Then it clears and it's again a bright day for the southern half of the UK.
01:40Spells of sunshine, although there will be some patchy cloud here and there.
01:44Scotland and Northern Ireland though, that wet spell continues, perhaps easing off a little
01:49into the afternoon across Northern Ireland, parts of Western Scotland.
01:52But there will be more wet weather later and it's going to be increasingly wet for some
01:58parts of Western Scotland, especially with Western and Southwest Scotland seeing these
02:04trailing weather fronts just linger across the region.
02:08A southwesterly breeze, moisture laden winds bringing that wet weather and dumping an awful
02:14lot of rain across West and Southwest Scotland through Wednesday and into Thursday as well as
02:21Friday.
02:22So, yellow warning in force for Western Scotland and you can find further details on that online.
02:28But for full details on the weather for the week ahead, there's a video of the week
02:33ahead forecast by Alex Deacon on our YouTube channel.
