For many it will be a blustery afternoon. Cloudy in the western areas with outbreaks of rain, which could be heavy over the higher ground. Drier and brighter in the east, particularly eastern England and northeastern Scotland, and some brightness pushing into Northern Ireland later this afternoon too. 00:00Hello there, welcome to your latest Met Office forecast and the weekend is going to be dominated by low pressure.
00:07Looking at the bigger picture, we can see a large area of low pressure sat to the northwest of the UK.
00:12Weather front's pushing its way eastwards, strong blustery showers following on behind.
00:16You can see the ice bars closely packed together there, indicating some brisk winds as well,
00:21particularly in the west and lots of showers feeding in right through into the beginning of next week.
00:27So for this afternoon, a bit of a west-east split out there, cloudy in western areas with outbreaks of rain.
00:33This could be heavy at times over the higher ground.
00:35Dryest and brightest across eastern areas, particularly eastern England, northeast Scotland, there'll be some glimmers of sunshine here.
00:42And then some brighter skies starting to push into Northern Ireland later on this afternoon.
00:46For everyone, quite a blustery afternoon, particularly in the west.
00:49Widely, we could see gusts of 25, 30 miles an hour.
00:52But around western coast, we could see gusts close to gale force, around 45 miles an hour, perhaps a little stronger in one or two spots.
01:00And so under the cloud and the outbreaks of rain, it will be quite cool here.
01:03Temperatures around 18 to 21 Celsius.
01:06We could see around 20 to 30 millimetres or so by the end of the day in the west.
01:12In the sunshine here, 22, 23 Celsius possible across eastern England, reaching around 20 Celsius across northeast Scotland.
01:18So feeling pleasant where you do manage to hold on to some brightness and dry weather.
01:24But eventually the rain pushes eastwards through the rest of the UK this evening time.
01:28But generally clearing in the early hours and then a blustery night to come.
01:33A mixture of clear spells and scattered showers.
01:35Showers most frequent in the west, so lots of areas will stay dry with clear skies.
01:40But it remains quite breezy and that will keep temperatures up for most of us in double figures, perhaps touching single figures in the countryside.
01:47So Sunday morning gets off to a bright start for many of us.
01:51There will be plenty of sunny spells, but showers, particularly in the west and along the south coast of England as well from the word go.
01:57And as we move through the day, the showers become a bit more widespread.
02:00One or two of them will be on the heavy side at times.
02:02Some rumbles of thunder, some blustery winds as well.
02:05A more organised area of rain pushing eastwards across Northern Ireland into western Scotland as we move through the day.
02:11And widely windy.
02:12If anything, the winds are a little stronger on Sunday.
02:14We could see gusts of 50 to 60 miles an hour stretching up from the Isle of Man across eastern coast of Northern Ireland into western Scotland as well.
02:23So if you are travelling, it is worth sort of staying up to date with the latest forecast.
02:27And the showers passing through, giving some local disruption as well.
02:31But if you manage to avoid the showers and you stay in the sunshine, it will be fairly pleasant.
02:36Temperature is near average.
02:37The high teens to low 20s, again 22, 23 Celsius as a top temperature across southeast England.
02:44And further showers will continue to end the day on Sunday.
02:47Longer spells of rain as we get closer to this area of low pressure across Northern Ireland, western parts of Scotland.
02:53The showers becoming frequent across Wales as well.
02:56Continued risk of some hail and thunder in those showers as well.
03:00Generally dry the further south and east you go.
03:02And looking at the beginning of September, early next week, we see unsettled weather continuing.
03:08Further rain in places, some heavy showers, some brisk winds and temperatures overall will be around average for the time of year.
03:15So if you're in the rain and against the wind, it will feel rather cool.
03:18But fairly pleasant to start September in any sunnier breaks.
