00:05Bethpage State Park in New York, Long Island, at the end of the 45th Ryder Cup.
00:17It did look as though Europe having won all four sessions on the opening two days, the
00:23first time they had achieved that in US soil, were set for a pretty straightforward final
00:29day. However, it was anything but an astonishing final single session. At one point, the Americans
00:40looked as though they could pull off a record last day victory. They had gone into the final
00:47day seven points behind. Europe only needed to get 14 points to retain the trophy, 14.5
00:55to win it for the second match in succession. And really, it became a real, real struggle
01:02for Luke Donald's side in the head-to-head matches. It took a brilliant last hole win by Shane
01:11Lowry, who played the last four or five holes absolutely magnificently. He finished with five
01:20threes. He got a vital half-point. That meant that Europe had retained the Ryder Cup. And
01:30then, at one point, it looked like it might come down to Bob McIntyre in the last of the
01:3511 matches. There should have been 12. But Victor Hovland, due to a neck issue, had to withdraw.
01:42And that meant a half-point for Europe and a half-point for America with Harris English sitting
01:49out the final session as well. However, it was Tyrell Hatton, three-time Dunhill Lynx champion,
01:57of course, who clinched a win. And it was certainly a nerve-wracking final day for Luke Donald, probably
02:08the most stressful of his life. But the Europeans had come here with a mission. That was to record
02:15the first win on U.S. soil since 2012 and become just the fifth team to win the Ryder Cup in
02:25America. Fantastic event. Unfortunately, the behaviour at times by the U.S. fans was deplorable.
02:32It can't be allowed to happen again in the Ryder Cup. It's a fantastic sporting event.
02:39And the values of this event need to be restored, as I'm sure they will, in the 2027 encounter
