04:27He fought with addiction since he was 15 years old,
04:30and that was the devil that he fought in his life.
04:34And Joey had overcome his addiction many times.
04:39But when something major would happen in his life,
04:43it would cause him to relapse.
04:45One relapse in 2004 at the age of 22
04:51leads to an incident that throws Joey and Christine's life
04:55into turmoil.
04:56Joey was out one night
04:58and got pulled over
05:00and wound up in jail for drug charges.
05:07Joey going to jail was very upsetting.

05:12It made things very difficult for all of us.
05:17A prison sentence puts Joey's marriage under strain.
05:21His being incarcerated really hurt Christine.
05:26While he was in prison,
05:28they drifted apart.
05:30She was young, by herself.
05:32She was lonely.
05:33And I really think she was just looking for a way out.

05:45and they begin to hang out.

05:58But as the bond between them grows,

19:27Amanda started having words with Micah telling him she wasn't that kind of woman.
19:35From what I was told, Amanda called Christina a bitch.

19:41I think she was jealous of the fact that Christina and Joey could still be friends, you know.
19:46It was just kind of evil to just do that to Micah and Joey, you know, to cause problems that you didn't have to cause.
19:55And Micah just didn't allow that.
19:59That was his wife.
20:01And that's when Joey had stepped in.
20:06Micah got mad through a beer bottle.
20:08Now Micah squares up to another adversary.
20:13I was just like, man, Micah, you're wrong.
20:16And then he got all mad at me for saying that.
20:20And kind of got in each other's face.
20:23Well, then he took off.
20:25Bo follows Micah outside.
20:28But attempts to pacify Micah only provoke him.
20:31And the next thing I see him out the corner of my eye, like, try to come swing on me.
20:39Mad at me because he felt like I was taking Joey's side.
20:46Bo fell or Micah hit him.
20:49I see his foot coming out of my face.
20:52The bowling alley was the night that changed everything.
21:01Micah ended up swinging on me out there, and I tried to duck it and twist it, and my knee popped out of place.
21:10I couldn't get up.
21:12And I had to have a ambulance come get me.
21:15The cops were called, and Micah and Christine left, just disappeared.
21:21The tension sort of spiraled from that night after the bowling alley, and the events just started unfolding.
21:30There was a break-in that night at Micah's house.

21:42His back door had been kicked in, and his home was broken into, and some items like a TV were stolen.

22:18And then there was a TV stolen from Micah's house, and Micah had the name who had been at his house, and Joey was one of the names.
22:31Joey just flipped out when he found out that Micah had called the sheriff on him.
22:37Joey was still on probation, and anything like that could cause Joey to go back.
22:44He was on killing.
22:50Micah called several times, just over and over, and him and Joey would be fighting, and they just went on and on until I finally took my phone from Joey, turned it off, and the next day I went down and changed my phone number.

23:09I sent a Facebook message asking him to quit saying that Joey took his TV because I had proof on my phone at what time Joey got home.

24:24To him, that was offensive.
24:26He didn't like it one bit.
24:28He was angry.
24:30That's when he went home and posted that on Facebook.
24:35He said, Bo Coggins is a bitch.
24:37These things were happening, and you think, when's this going to end?

24:49Weeks after the insult on the highway, Micah is still mad at his cousin, Bo, and his girlfriend, Brittany.

26:18Next thing I know, Joey going to threw his hat off.
26:21And then they kind of squared up.
26:23Joey was still mad over the TV incident that Micah called the law on him.
26:29Some say they threw up their fists to fight.
26:32Some say they didn't.
26:33Some say Micah went to the car trying to get a bat out.
26:36Some say he didn't.
26:38But the gist of it was, Micah said, we want to fight.
26:40And Joey said, I can't fight here.
26:42I can't, I'm not going back.
26:46And, uh, I'm trying to stay out of trouble.
26:49And he said, well, where are you going to be later?
26:51And Joey just, oh, I'm going to this party.
26:53So Micah got in his car with his friends, and they left.
26:57After the altercations at the liquor store, the bad blood begins to boil.
27:05Later that night, a war of words erupts.
27:08There was over 80 calls made that night.
27:15Brittany and Amanda were big buddies.
27:17So between Brittany and Amanda, they were really, really trying to stir the pot, you know.
27:25Christine was babysitting, and they started calling her.
27:29That's just how they were.
27:34It was just evil.
27:35Micah had been drinking, and when he came in, Christine told him what had been going on,
27:43what they were saying, and it just made it worse.
27:48Micah's growing fury finally explodes.
27:53Micah threatened to kill Joey and kill his children.
27:59He had told Joey that he was going to leave him dead in the street like his father.

28:18When you went that far with Joey to bring his dad into it, he wasn't going to have that.

28:41And then my mom calls.
28:53And she told me how Micah's called her, saying that he was going to beat me to death with a baseball bat.
28:59And I just, I don't know, I was like, we can fight and be done with it.

29:18The family feuding has gone way too far already.

29:28He's like, Micah, like, I mean, honestly, what did I do to you, like, for you to even be mad at me?

29:36And he's like, yeah, I know.

29:41And then he was kind of like, well, you think Joey want to make up too?

29:45And I tried to put him on the phone with Joey, and he didn't sit, you know, way too much stuff, talking about leaving him dead in the street like his dad.

30:28After everything that happened at the Bowen Alley and just kind of the growing animosity, they were just gonna fight their differences out and be done with it.
30:35And he was at the point to where I felt like he was just tired and was just ready for it to be over with.
30:45As the time for their fight approaches, Joey becomes rattled.
30:54I received a phone call from Joey's girlfriend, Amanda, and told me to talk to Joey and calm him down.
31:00And I did speak with Joey, and Joey said, Mama, I ain't calming down.
31:04Micah said he was gonna leave me dead in the street like my father.
31:08And I said, Joey, just come home.
31:13None of my family took it seriously.
31:18They knew he was angry, but I don't think that anyone ever thought it would all ever end up how it did.
