00:01Moving on to other topics, voters in Guinea have overwhelmingly backed a new constitution
00:05that could allow CUP leader Mamadi Domboya to roam for president if he should.
00:12According to the head of the country's General Directorate of Elections, Dijenabou Toure,
00:17the constitution looks set to pass with 90.6% of the votes in favour after roughly 91% of
00:26the votes cast in a referendum held on September 21 were counted. Officials estimate that more
00:32than 4.8 million people exercise the right to vote for a turnout of over 30%. A charter adopted
00:40after the coup carried out by Mamadi Domboya in 2021 barred members of the transitional government
00:47from seeking office. However, that language is not included in the new constitution put
00:53to voters last Sunday.
