Hello everyone and welcome. What do you get when you mix a commandants daughter, 2 French prisoners who are not French, treacherous jungles of French Guiana and headhunters, well you get 1962s Terror of the Bloodhunters!!!!! Well less emphasis on the blood or shrunken heads and more on how the heck are we getting out of here. Staring in this tale of daddy I'm bored and want to see more of the world we have...Robert Clarke as Steve, Dorothy Haney as Marlene, Robert Christopher as Whorf (no not the Star Trek on, that's spelled Worf), William White as Dione, Steve Conte as Cabot, Niles Andrus as Commandant, Herbert Clarke as Muller, Darrold Westbrooke as Jacobe and a few more. So if you're not doing any time in the slammer, let's make drink some Devil's Island rum (a brand of rum made by Beluga Group in the Dominican Republic, yeah I looked it up) and try to enjoy. Drink enough and you will. Also thanks so much for stopping by and watching.

00:01:22You don't have to kill yourself in this detail.
00:01:25Sit down, have a smoke.
00:01:27Thanks.
00:01:30Yeah, you new men are all alike.
00:01:32Everything you see on this island seems wrong to you, huh?
00:01:35How long have you been around?
00:01:37A long time.
00:01:39Yeah, when I got here, the only new man they had sent over
00:01:42in maybe 10 or 12 years.
00:01:44Like you, I was pretty nervous.
00:01:46Well, I got over it, and so will you.
00:01:49You know, the thing that puzzles me is the amount of freedom the prisoners get here.
00:01:53What do they need guards for?
00:01:55Except maybe some kind of formality.
00:01:57Oh, now, there's more to the job than just that.
00:02:00Here is mainly discipline.
00:02:02Sure, every convict is not locked in a cell the way he should be.
00:02:05Actually, it's run more like an army.
00:02:08But when they get out of control, that's when we go to work.
00:02:12I can tell you one thing.
00:02:14If I were one of them, I'd take off in a real hurry.
00:02:16Oh, you would, huh?
00:02:18Yeah, well, that's the same fallacy every new prisoner makes.
00:02:22It may look easy, but you take it from me.
00:02:24Nobody's ever gotten off this island.
00:02:27Well, I can see how they wouldn't last long in the ocean,
00:02:29but what about the jungle?
00:02:31Rough going, sure, but I bet it could be done.
00:02:34Well, a lot of them have tried it.
00:02:36And you're right about one thing.
00:02:37The jungle is good and rough.
00:02:39But you see, it's not the jungle that stops them.
00:02:42It's the natives.
00:02:43Yeah, I've heard about them.
00:02:45They're supposed to be almost as primitive as the aborigines, right?
00:02:48Yeah, and 20 times it's bloodthirsty.
00:02:50And when I say blood, I don't mean elderberry wine.
00:02:53And any time they see a white man, it splashes into every jug available.
00:02:58Voodoo and all that, huh?
00:02:59Yeah, voodoo.
00:03:00Just don't try to find out.
00:03:01You sound like the voice of experience.
00:03:03Yeah, well, I went in there once.
00:03:06They offered me a fat bonus that could win after one of the lifers.
00:03:10Did you get him?
00:03:11Well, you might say we got part of him.
00:03:14His head.
00:03:15Only when we saw it, it was the size of a grapefruit.
00:03:18Wow.
00:03:19Mm-hmm.
00:03:20Yeah, and you speak about voodoo.
00:03:22Well, I saw plenty of that, too.
00:03:24Plus a few dozen other things, which can last me the rest of my life.
00:03:28Did you get a close look?
00:03:30I mean, the rituals.
00:03:31Yeah, I'm afraid I did.
00:03:34It's crazy when you think about it.
00:03:37I don't know what we were thinking about.
00:03:40Moving in the way we did.
00:04:01We were right smack in the middle of things, and I knew at the time that my thinking mechanism was running in low gear to say about the best one.
00:04:10By any standard of good sense, we should have turned on our heels and headed out of there fast before the men of the tribe came out to join the women.
00:04:16Curiosity being what it is, I suppose there's always a time when logic is thrown out the window.
00:04:46As near as I could figure, it was some kind of death sacrifice.
00:04:58I don't know if the girl had some kind of drug in her or not, but the thing that got me is she didn't seem to mind in the least what was happening to her.
00:05:07Let's do this again later.
00:08:42He carries his own weight.
00:08:48Now, you were sent to this island for a good reason.
00:08:52From now on, you're my responsibility.
00:08:55Each one of you will take your orders from me.
00:08:59If you don't, well, you'll soon learn the consequences.
00:09:05All right, let's move.
00:09:12Let's go.
00:09:42Let's go.
00:09:46Let's go.
00:09:47Let's go.
00:10:11Take him alone.
00:10:17Get away.
00:10:18Move!
00:10:22Walk, captain.
00:10:23Take this man out of here.
00:10:39Seems that you men forget very quickly.
00:10:44Every man takes care of himself.
00:10:47Don't forget it.
00:10:50Please.
00:10:52Will he be seen by a doctor?
00:11:10I see you're keeping the grounds in shape.
00:11:13Oh, yes, captain.
00:11:15You can always count on Estes.
00:11:18That's good.
00:11:19Keep it up.
00:11:20Captain.
00:11:23Or the commandant's daughter.
00:11:27Thank you, Estes.
00:11:28I think the commandant's daughter will be very pleased.
00:11:31Sit down, we're just in time for breakfast.
00:11:57Anything happen while I was away?
00:12:02No, no problems.
00:12:04Where's Marlene?
00:12:05She'll be right down.
00:12:08Honesty says there are no scars.
00:12:11I doubt it didn't mean much to her.
00:12:14Oh, is she one of her moods again?
00:12:16I wish I could put my finger on it.
00:12:19I don't think it's just the isolation.
00:12:22Her mother stood up under that very well.
00:12:25If you two could just settle your differences,
00:12:28I think marriage would take care of everything.
00:12:30Well, that's easier said than done.
00:12:33Anybody that can handle men like you do, Warren,
00:12:35should be smart enough to win a woman's favor.
00:12:46Well, good morning.
00:12:47We were just talking about you.
00:12:49Oh?
00:12:50Was it the usual conversation?
00:12:52What do you mean by that?
00:12:53Nothing.
00:12:54Nothing at all.
00:12:55Mommy, how about some breakfast?
00:12:57I'm not hungry.
00:12:58Come on, you have to eat.
00:12:59No, I don't.
00:13:00I only have to live here, nothing else.
00:13:03I'm just a little bit different from your convicts out there.
00:13:06Not much.
00:13:07But at least I don't have to take your orders.
00:13:11I don't know what to do.
00:13:12If you ask me, she needs a little discipline.
00:13:13And you can bet she'll get it after we're married.
00:13:14Well, perhaps time will tell.
00:13:16While you were gone, we had some new arrivals.
00:13:18The ship was nearly two weeks earlier.
00:13:19Oh?
00:13:20Oh?
00:13:21Oh?
00:13:22Stephen Duval.
00:13:23What about him?
00:13:24Besides writing books, did you know he's quite famous as an artist?
00:13:27No.
00:13:28I don't know.
00:13:29I don't know what to do.
00:13:30I don't know what to do.
00:13:31If you ask me, she needs a little discipline.
00:13:32And you can bet she'll get it after we're married.
00:13:33Well, perhaps time will tell.
00:13:35No you don't have a passion.
00:13:36I don't know what to do.
00:13:37I don't know what to do.
00:13:38I don't know what to do.
00:13:39Well, I'm sorry.
00:13:40I'm sorry.
00:13:41Like, I just had to tell you.
00:13:42You wouldn't tell you what to do.
00:13:43But be careful.
00:13:44I don't know you.
00:13:45I'm sorry.
00:13:46I don't know you.
00:13:47But be careful.
00:13:48All right.
00:13:49Until then, it's quite expensive.
00:13:50I quit.
00:13:51Nothing wrong.
00:13:52All right.
00:13:53And then, we should listen.
00:13:54There have a few other questions.
00:13:55Oh, let me see if you've put some interesting books.
00:13:56Well, let me see if you're standing up.
00:13:57Oh, let me see.
00:13:58I'm sorry.
00:13:59No.
00:14:00Nope.
00:14:01I'm sorry.
00:14:02I just found out.
00:14:03An idea. Just an idea.
00:14:20That's a lot of water out there. Too much for what you're thinking.
00:14:25A few centuries ago, a whole race of people crossed that ocean.
00:14:28Nothing but primitive rafts.
00:14:31You really think it's possible?
00:14:33I think anything is possible.
00:14:35Just have to find the right way of doing it.
00:14:46Mal? Huh?
00:14:47Let that go for now. You want it in the Commandant's office.
00:14:50Come on.
00:15:03Come in, Duval.
00:15:08Sit down.
00:15:09That'll be all, Muller.
00:15:11Cigarette?
00:15:12No, thank you.
00:15:13No, thank you.
00:15:14Come in, Duval.
00:15:15Sit down.
00:15:16That'll be all, Muller.
00:15:18Cigarette?
00:15:19No, thank you.
00:15:20Cigarette?
00:15:21No, thank you.
00:15:22So you're Stephen Duval.
00:15:23A man who writes books about those great horizons of misunderstanding.
00:15:26Tell me, do you really believe future generations will look at today as an age of barbarians?
00:15:27Considering our place in time?
00:15:28No.
00:15:29No.
00:15:30No.
00:15:31No.
00:15:32No.
00:15:33No.
00:15:34No.
00:15:35No.
00:15:36No.
00:15:37No.
00:15:38No.
00:15:39No.
00:15:40No.
00:15:41No.
00:15:42No.
00:15:43No.
00:15:44No, no.
00:15:45No.
00:15:46No.
00:15:47No.
00:15:48No.
00:15:49No.
00:15:51alleen
00:15:56More.
00:15:57No.
00:15:58No.
00:15:59No, no.
00:16:00No, no, no.
00:16:01No.
00:16:02No, no, no.
00:16:04I don't think approval is the right word necessarily,
00:16:07But perhaps they'll see our mistakes and profit by them.
00:16:11And after all this wonderful evolution, they'll have the perfect society.
00:16:15No politics, no taxation, no unhappiness.
00:16:21Look, if you called me in to hear my views on society,
00:16:24I think it would be a great deal simpler for you just to read them.
00:16:27Ah, but too many people have read them, Duval.
00:16:29If they hadn't, you'd be a free man today.
00:16:34But actually, I sent for you not to talk about writing,
00:16:36but your work as an artist.
00:16:38I was very much impressed with your paintings at the Art Festival in Paris last year.
00:16:43So much so that I'd like you to do a portrait of my daughter.
00:16:48When my wife was alive, she spent most of her time painting.
00:16:52That's an interest I'd like my daughter to pick up.
00:16:55I rather hope you can bring that about.
00:16:58Do you have oils and cans?
00:17:01Everything you need will be arranged for in the morning.
00:17:03You can report in here.
00:17:06And Duval, one thing I didn't mention.
00:17:10My daughter is, well, a little stubborn and very strong-willed.
00:17:15She may take to this and she may not.
00:17:18If she does, I want you to do your best.
00:17:36This is my daughter, Raleen.
00:17:54How do you do?
00:17:56Is everything satisfactory in the way of equipment?
00:17:58Yes, except I need some turpentine and a few pieces of cloth.
00:18:02All right, I'll see to it.
00:18:03Anything else?
00:18:04No.
00:18:06Is there something I can take care of for you, my dear?
00:18:08No, thank you.
00:18:09Well, then, suppose you get started.
00:18:12I'll try to stop in later.
00:18:17Will I be difficult to paint?
00:18:19No, I don't think so.
00:18:22You're not disappointed?
00:18:23Disappointed?
00:18:25Yeah, of course not.
00:18:27Won't you sit down?
00:18:36Mr. Duvall, I don't want to startle you, but I must get right to the point.
00:18:42I think I can get you off this island.
00:18:47Why would you want to do that?
00:18:49The biggest problem right now is getting you to trust me.
00:18:52I know what you have at stake.
00:18:55I already trust you, that's why I'm here.
00:18:58I didn't consent to this because I'm interested in art or in having my portrait done.
00:19:04I went along because it'll mean getting out of St. Laurent.
00:19:08This may sound strange, Mr. Duvall, but I'm as much a prisoner here as you are.
00:19:16What could I possibly do to help you?
00:19:19I've lived on this island since I was a child.
00:19:22Before my mother died, she dreamed of getting us off.
00:19:26For certain reasons I won't go into, my stepfather controlled her life as well as my own.
00:19:31The police, as far as Dutch Guiena, are under his orders to keep me here.
00:19:35Everyone knows they'll be generously rewarded if they work with the Commandant.
00:19:41The only way I'll ever make it is with someone I can trust.
00:19:45And you've picked me?
00:19:48I know exactly who and what you are.
00:19:51One of your books was smuggled in from Brazil.
00:19:54I read it cover to cover three times.
00:19:57Have you also read that faith is blind?
00:20:01Learning about people is the one thing I've had plenty of time to do.
00:20:06Many have tried to get off this island and failed because of weakness.
00:20:11But none of them were you.
00:20:14Surely you've been thinking about escape.
00:20:18I've thought of nothing else.
00:20:21Now that you've been sent here, I suppose the public will be influenced by propaganda against your ideas.
00:20:28Yes, they plan to publish a book which will back down on every principle and put my name on it.
00:20:34So you have a stronger reason than I imagined for getting to Brazil.
00:20:38We can help each other, I know we can, if you can believe in me.
00:20:48I know what you're thinking, but there's no way I can prove myself to you.
00:20:56Actually, you don't have to.
00:20:58I've been taking chances all my life.
00:21:00There's no reason to change now.
00:21:02Do you know of one other man you can trust?
00:21:05Bernard Dion.
00:21:06He came over on the ship with me.
00:21:08Good.
00:21:09You know the gate that leads to the main yard?
00:21:10I've seen it, yes.
00:21:12Wait a few minutes tonight after the light's out.
00:21:15Go directly to the flagpole.
00:21:17Shh.
00:21:18I hear someone.
00:21:20Good morning, Marlene.
00:21:24I hear you've decided to become a mother.
00:21:27How's it coming?
00:21:29So far, very well.
00:21:31Tell me, Duval, how long does a thing like this usually take?
00:21:35I don't know.
00:21:36I don't know.
00:21:37I don't know.
00:21:38I don't know.
00:21:39I don't know.
00:21:40I don't know.
00:21:41I don't know.
00:21:42I don't know.
00:21:43I don't know.
00:21:44I don't know.
00:21:45I don't know.
00:21:46Well, it depends on the subject.
00:21:50The artist tries to bring out the basic heart and the emotion of the question.
00:21:55Some people radiate this more than others.
00:21:59Some are practically non-existent.
00:22:04I see.
00:22:06Well, I hope you don't have too much trouble bringing out whatever it is, Duval.
00:22:11Because the sooner you get through with this, the quicker I'll have you outside with the rest
00:22:15of your kind.
00:22:17I'll see you at dinner, Marlene.
00:22:45You'll be fine.
00:22:48I'll see you at dinner.
00:22:50You'll be fine.
00:22:52You'll be fine.
00:22:53I'll be fine.
00:22:54I know it's the better.
00:22:55I can't wait for you.
00:22:57That's my pleasure.
00:22:58I'll be fine.
00:22:59I'll be fine.
00:23:00You'll be fine!
00:23:01What are you, Sandra?
00:23:02What are you, Sandra?
00:23:03You're going home.
00:23:04I'm going home.
00:23:05You're going home.
00:23:06Let's go.
00:23:36Let's go.
00:24:06How's it going?
00:24:15Not bad.
00:24:16My feet aren't completely used to the place, but they're getting there.
00:24:20You mind the night duty?
00:24:22Would it do me any good if I did?
00:24:24Well, don't worry.
00:24:25Another month or so, I'll take you off it, and I'll rotate you around the clock with the
00:24:28other boys.
00:24:30Hey, how about a drink?
00:24:38It's good stuff, huh?
00:24:39Yeah.
00:24:42I just told you didn't go much for the bottle.
00:24:44Well, as a matter of fact, I don't.
00:24:46But this is a special occasion.
00:24:48I'm getting married.
00:24:50Yeah, it's an engagement celebration.
00:24:53Hey, how about a toast?
00:24:54Well, sure, sure.
00:24:56I'll make it.
00:24:58Here's to a lot of happy days and all that goes with them.
00:25:00Good.
00:25:00Tell me, what's going to happen?
00:25:10Oh, pretty soon, I guess.
00:25:12You know, women, they're about as unpredictable as the winds in a hurricane.
00:25:17You never know which way they're liable to turn.
00:25:19But when they do, whoa, you've got to be ready.
00:25:22You know, I have been trying for three years to get her to set a date, and all I ever got
00:25:28was one stall after another.
00:25:29And all of a sudden, she sweetens up and she says, we've been waiting too long.
00:25:35Well, don't fight it.
00:25:36Oh, no, no.
00:25:37I'll go along with it.
00:25:38She can hold the reins any way she wants to.
00:25:40Now, but after we tie that knot, things are going to be different.
00:25:45Things are going to be run the way they should be.
00:25:47Yeah, well, you go back to work.
00:25:53I think I'll take a walk and walk off this headache.
00:26:09We're not sending ducks out here.
00:26:12Yeah.
00:26:13Now, let's get out of here.
00:26:14Come on.
00:26:17Hey, Warren.
00:26:32I don't know whether to congratulate you or give you my sympathy.
00:26:40If you got her to say yes, you may wish her yes.
00:26:44Have no fear, boys.
00:26:45Marlene will make a good wife, now that she knows who's boss.
00:26:55I'll tell you what.
00:26:56Let's drink a toast to a man with persuasion and our next commandant.
00:27:02Let's go.
00:27:18No.
00:27:19You had me worried.
00:27:20Have you worried?
00:27:21Look, you see that shack over there?
00:27:23That's why I keep the gardener's tools.
00:27:25I've put two nail fonts in there.
00:27:26Oh, quickly.
00:27:27Yeah.
00:27:32Let's go.
00:28:02Hold it.
00:28:04Who's that?
00:28:06We're just out for a little walk.
00:28:07Don't tell them you haven't heard about the engagement.
00:28:10That you, Worf?
00:28:11Yeah.
00:28:12Yeah, I heard about it.
00:28:13Hold it.
00:28:14Hold it.
00:28:15Hold it.
00:28:16Hold it.
00:28:17Hold it.
00:28:18Hold it.
00:28:19Hold it.
00:28:20Hold it.
00:28:21Hold it.
00:28:22Hold it.
00:28:23Hold it.
00:28:24Hold it.
00:28:25Hold it.
00:28:26Hold it.
00:28:27Hold it.
00:28:28Hold it.
00:28:29Hold it.
00:28:30Hold it.
00:28:32Hold it.
00:28:33Hold it.
00:28:34Hold it.
00:28:45In his pocket, get the keys.
00:28:46Keys?
00:28:47We're going to take where our boat's on the river.
00:28:49I have the keys for the ignition, but not the one for the dock.
00:28:52Here they are.
00:28:54That's it.
00:28:56Come on.
00:29:02I've got to hand it to you.
00:29:03This sure is sweet.
00:29:04This is the Commandant's boat.
00:29:05When we pull into Moengo, it'll help make our story look legitimate.
00:29:09What's the next move?
00:29:10Well, Worf here and I are getting married.
00:29:11Yeah.
00:29:12We heard.
00:29:13Well, the news made everyone quite happy.
00:29:14I knew the Commandant would be so thrilled he'd want to tell his friend, the inspector
00:29:15of police at Moengo.
00:29:16Well, they talk every night by shortwave radio.
00:29:17The inspector has never met Worf.
00:29:18And he knows I'd want to be married in a certain Brazilian village.
00:29:19And he knows I'd want to be married in a certain Brazilian village.
00:29:20the same as my mother.
00:29:21I'm curious about something.
00:29:22What's the next move?
00:29:23Well, Worf here and I are getting married.
00:29:24Yeah.
00:29:25We heard.
00:29:26Well, the news made everyone quite happy.
00:29:27I knew the Commandant would be so thrilled he'd want to tell his friend, the inspector
00:29:28of police at Moengo.
00:29:29Well, they talk every night by shortwave radio.
00:29:30The inspector has never met Worf.
00:29:31And he knows I'd want to be married in a certain Brazilian village, the same as my mother.
00:29:34I'm curious about something.
00:29:35Why did you bring me along?
00:29:36A rule of the Commandant.
00:29:37Whenever leaving the island for any reason, the guards must always be in pairs.
00:29:38All police are aware of that.
00:29:39Do we lose this boat at the next stop?
00:29:40We'd never make it on the river.
00:29:41Our only chance is to get a plane out of Moengo.
00:29:42Our only chance is to get a plane out of Moengo.
00:29:43No, no, no.
00:29:44No, no.
00:29:45No, no.
00:29:46No, no.
00:29:47No, no.
00:29:48No, no.
00:29:49No, no.
00:29:50No, no.
00:29:51No, no.
00:29:52No, no.
00:29:53No, no.
00:29:54No, no.
00:29:55No, no.
00:29:56No, no.
00:29:57No, no.
00:29:58No, no.
00:29:59No, no.
00:30:00No, no.
00:30:01No, no.
00:30:02Our only chance is to get a plane out of Moengo.
00:30:05Hey, wait a minute.
00:30:07If the Commandant talks to his friend on shortwave, what's going to happen tomorrow?
00:30:11I think he'll be somewhat annoyed.
00:30:32Hold on.
00:30:33Say it for a while.
00:30:34There it is.
00:30:35The Air Force is here.
00:30:36Right here.
00:30:37Oh, my God.
00:30:38The Air Force is inside.
00:30:39The Air Force is here.
00:30:40There it is.
00:30:41Is the truth?
00:30:42The Air Force is not dead.
00:30:43The Air Force is not dead.
00:30:44All right.
00:30:45It's a little bit.
00:30:46How many people have never heard of Moengo.
00:30:47The Air Force is being turned into the air.
00:30:48Yes? I'm the daughter of the commandant at St. Lorraine. We would like to see the inspector.
00:31:07Of course, Mrs.
00:31:18The lieutenant will see you now. You don't understand. We want to see the inspector. I'm afraid you'll have to talk to the lieutenant. This way.
00:31:38Sit down. I'm Lieutenant Verdel. How do you do? The inspector is a friend of mine. We'd like to see him.
00:31:47How unfortunate. You've missed him by an hour.
00:31:52He's gone.
00:31:54To St. Lorraine, to see your father. His launch must nearly have passed you in the harbor.
00:31:59Captain Worf and I are getting married. We'll want to catch the plane out to Brazil as soon as possible.
00:32:05Well, the inspector will be back tonight, and I'm sure he'll arrange to get you out on tomorrow's plane.
00:32:11But Lieutenant...
00:32:12It's all right, Marlene. I don't think one day will make too much difference.
00:32:17I'm really very sorry about this inconvenience.
00:32:20It's all right, Lieutenant. Thanks very much.
00:32:23You've been very kind. Thank you.
00:32:27I'm sure you'll find the necessary accommodations at the hotel.
00:32:47I feel so conspicuous. Like every eye in Moengo is looking at us.
00:32:51Well, take it easy. We'll come up with something.
00:32:53If you ask me, that lieutenant will probably stop by the hotel to see if we've checked in.
00:32:56Then he'll know for sure.
00:32:57Oh, he'll know before long, anyway.
00:32:59Inspector?
00:33:00Before he's halfway up the river, he'll be intercepted for the search party coming down.
00:33:04He'll be the radio headquarters for his boat.
00:33:06And what are we going to do?
00:33:08No thing we can't do. Get out of here right now.
00:33:16There's only one place where we might have a chance.
00:33:19The jungle?
00:33:21Eventually, we might be lucky enough to circle back into the river.
00:33:25Smart me.
00:33:27I had everything all figured out.
00:33:29We wind up no better off than the ones who try the impossible.
00:33:32But, Molly, if you think maybe...
00:33:33No, I don't.
00:33:35No matter what happens.
00:33:37And I'd rather die in that jungle than think of anything but getting farther away.
00:33:41No telling what we might be up against.
00:33:43I've heard plenty of stories.
00:33:44I know our chances of reaching Brazil aren't worth much, but whether we do or we don't, I'll never regret trying.
00:33:55Good. Come on.
00:34:07I don't think we've missed anything.
00:34:09The streets, the docks, everything's been covered.
00:34:11They've left, Mawango, and gone into the jungle.
00:34:15Stupid police and Mawango.
00:34:17About as efficient as a bunch of school children.
00:34:20Don't forget, they were notified a little late.
00:34:22And when you mention efficiency, I think we'd best speak for ourselves.
00:34:26Well, do you know my record?
00:34:27That one escaped. Twelve years and that one successful escape.
00:34:30Send me down, Wolf. I know the kind of job you've done.
00:34:33This one's a little different when you consider Marlene's ingenuity.
00:34:37Yeah? How do you know they didn't force her into it, huh?
00:34:41We both know that's not very likely.
00:34:44Well, they'll come out when we've had enough of that jungle.
00:34:46I'm afraid I can't agree with that, either.
00:34:48Well, I'll tell you what I'm going to do. I'm going after them.
00:34:50Into the jungle?
00:34:51Yes, into the jungle if necessary.
00:34:53Wolf, you know very well of our limitations.
00:34:54But you can take...
00:34:55We have no jurisdiction.
00:34:56But you can take...
00:34:58Look, Mawango, I'm going to be tied up here for a while.
00:35:01Take care of the shift change, and if you see Cabot, tell him I want to see him right away.
00:35:03Now, how about this jurisdiction? You know you can handle that.
00:35:10Did you go alone?
00:35:12No. I'll take Cabot with me. Some natives to handle the boat.
00:35:15You'll stay on the river?
00:35:17Of course. They'll show up on it eventually. There's no other way to keep direction.
00:35:21You really want her quite badly, don't you, Wolf?
00:35:25It's not her.
00:35:27She can do what she wants about me.
00:35:29But I'm going to get them.
00:35:31I'm going to get them because nobody's ever gotten away from me.
00:35:35And I'm keeping her that way.
00:35:37I see.
00:35:41Wait a minute.
00:35:45Head native boy at the boat.
00:35:48Okay.
00:35:50Well, that about does it. Everything is loaded.
00:35:53I suppose you're prepared to stick it out with Cabot.
00:35:55If anything should go wrong, I can't spare any more men.
00:35:58Don't worry. I've got nothing but time.
00:36:04Well, Mother, that puts you in charge for a while.
00:36:07At least I hope it'll be temporary.
00:36:20To Nagy Robot, you're done.
00:36:25I don't think I played it off.
00:36:27Our europény Trends are on their way to build to thrive.
00:36:34That's when I sent a billion-besitz in a war after.
00:36:36So, What is the only thing?
00:36:37Last year, you'reégary.
00:36:39It's supposed to okay be a fun drive.
00:36:41Carey, young man.
00:36:42Let's go.
00:37:12All right.
00:37:42This looks like a pretty good place to make camp.
00:37:45What do you say?
00:37:46Well, I'm tired, but I'd still like to put a few more miles behind us.
00:37:49Well, if the boat's up to me, I'm for calling in a day.
00:37:52Well, it'll soon be dark anyhow.
00:37:55Well, I guess we could make a framework for a shelter out of this
00:37:58and fuse some of those leaves over there for a roof.
00:38:00Good.
00:38:01I have to dig a pit for fun.
00:38:03Well, I guess we could make a framework for a shelter out of this
00:38:06and fuse some of those leaves over there for a roof.
00:38:09Good.
00:38:10I have to dig a pit for fire and get some firewood.
00:38:14There's no shorty to that.
00:38:16Let's get started.
00:38:17Yeah. You think you're handling by yourself for a while?
00:38:19What's the matter? You that tired?
00:38:21No, but I think we could all use a little nourishment.
00:38:24I'll go out and see if I can find some small game.
00:38:26Hey, now you're talking. That's the best thing you've said yet.
00:38:28Go ahead. I'll have the fire ready.
00:38:29Good.
00:38:30I'll help you.
00:38:31The mention of food even gave me some energy.
00:38:40It'd be better with a little wine.
00:38:44Shall we say Sauternes?
00:38:46No, I think perhaps Chablis might be best.
00:38:49I always drank Chablis on Saturday nights in Paris.
00:38:53There's a little cafe on the left bank.
00:38:57It's called Petit Chateau.
00:38:59Oh, the wonderful dinners I've had in that place.
00:39:03On Saturday nights, I'd walk in with an exquisite young lady on my arm.
00:39:08The maitre d' would walk up and bow and tell us how our table was ready.
00:39:12And then he'd bring us wine.
00:39:15I'll tell you, there's nothing so romantic in other France.
00:39:18I've only read about places like Paris.
00:39:22When I was younger, I used to have the same dream over and over.
00:39:27I was invited to a party and I wore a purple dress.
00:39:31All of the young men were waiting to dance with me.
00:39:35At 12 o'clock, I'd leave the party and ride home in a carriage.
00:39:39I'd listen to the sound of the hoofbeats against the cobblestone streets.
00:39:44But there are no carriages today.
00:39:47If you were in Paris, I should say when you're in Paris.
00:39:51You'll see for yourself.
00:39:54If we get to Brazil, you'll both be safe.
00:39:57But you can never return to France.
00:40:00Where will you go?
00:40:01Well, I have a friend that lives in Montreal.
00:40:04He'll find something for me to do there.
00:40:07You mean you'll do something else in Canada besides riding?
00:40:12I don't plan to do any more riding.
00:40:15But you must.
00:40:17What?
00:40:18You'll be able to reach more people now than you ever did before.
00:40:21Well, perhaps.
00:40:22But somehow reaching them doesn't seem to mean very much.
00:40:25It could make you a rich man.
00:40:27A story of exile and escape.
00:40:29Why, a book like this could sell a million copies.
00:40:31It's funny how man has always been fascinated by someone else's struggle.
00:40:37Would you call that compassion?
00:40:41In a sense.
00:40:43I suppose it is.
00:40:45Well, from what I've seen, people talk a lot about having compassion and such.
00:40:49But when a man needs help, he usually winds up alone.
00:40:53Convention is a great narcotic.
00:40:56Well, who knows?
00:40:58Perhaps by the time we get out of here, I'll be able to write a book on survival myself.
00:41:03Don't leave me out. I want to be famous too.
00:41:06You may accomplish that.
00:41:08If Steve should change his mind, he'll just count it.
00:41:14I think if any of us expect to see anything outside this jungle, we better get some sleep.
00:41:19I think you're right.
00:41:20I hope some of that heat penetrates inside.
00:41:23Oh, don't worry about it.
00:41:24The way I feel right now, I won't have any trouble sleeping.
00:41:28I'll take the first watch. I'll wake you in a few hours.
00:41:30If you get sleepy, let me know.
00:41:32Sure.
00:41:33Good night.
00:41:34Good night.
00:42:04Good night.
00:42:05Good night.
00:42:12Take a strong will to stay in there any length of time.
00:42:17Well, if it were me, I'd try the ocean.
00:42:21Stand a better chance out there.
00:42:25Remember the old man, uh, Cravat?
00:42:3016 days, and he was still in good shape.
00:42:34If a French ship hadn't picked him up, he'd have made it.
00:42:39It's a matter of luck.
00:42:41When you think of all the neutral ships that could have seen him first.
00:42:46It doesn't sound just like one of the convicts.
00:42:50Well, you can't help but think about it.
00:42:52Besides, it's good to know how their minds are working.
00:42:56Their minds aren't working at all.
00:43:00That's why they tried to get away with it.
00:43:05Do they have any supplies?
00:43:09Well, according to that, they didn't buy anything in Moingo.
00:43:13There was nothing missing at the island.
00:43:17Well, then, it's just a matter of time.
00:43:22It's great.
00:43:23OK, so let's get started.
00:43:24I don't wanna leave.
00:43:25I don't want to go anywhere.
00:43:27You have a way!
00:43:29Oh, my God!
00:43:32This boat will go.
00:43:34This boat will be the end of the lake.
00:43:37The boat will cast the boat.
00:43:39It's a boat for the boat!
00:43:41The boat will go.
00:43:43I have a boat.
00:43:45The boat will be the end of the lake.
00:43:46Marlene, Dionne.
00:43:54Here. Take my hand.
00:43:58I'm all right. I just lost my balance.
00:44:02Why don't we rest a while?
00:44:04Why don't we rest a while?
00:44:06Why don't we rest a while?
00:44:08Why don't we rest a while?
00:44:10Why don't we rest a while?
00:44:12Why don't we rest a while?
00:44:14Why don't we rest a while?
00:44:16No, we've done too well.
00:44:18Just keep moving.
00:44:19Are you sure you're all right?
00:44:21Come on.
00:44:40Well, let's take a rest.
00:44:44How do you feel?
00:44:52Like I've been walking for a month.
00:44:56I'll get used to it.
00:44:58Well, I think we've done pretty well so far.
00:45:02That sun isn't playing tricks on us.
00:45:05It threw me off a long time ago.
00:45:07First, I thought it was in front of us and then it seemed to change.
00:45:10How many miles have we made?
00:45:14Oh, I don't know.
00:45:16I'd say maybe 30.
00:45:18Maybe a little more.
00:45:20The river takes a bend a little south about here.
00:45:24It straightens out to the west again.
00:45:26I know.
00:45:28I think we're edging toward it now.
00:45:30It'll sure look good when we get there.
00:45:34I've been tempted to take a drink from every little pond we run into.
00:45:38We've got to keep washing our clothes in them every day.
00:45:40I always heard that clean clothes is the first rule of the jungle.
00:45:50Think there's some logs, river.
00:45:52Do you think we might be able to fashion some kind of raft?
00:45:56Maybe we could build a dugout.
00:45:58No, I guess it would take too much time.
00:46:16We might eventually run into a tribe of Indians.
00:46:18We'd rather get barred with them from one of their boats.
00:46:21That might turn out to be a lot different than you think.
00:46:24If we run into Indian territory, the best thing we can do is ride on them.
00:46:54It must be getting close to the rapids.
00:47:22For a few more miles.
00:47:26Is there any way we can get through without ditching this boat?
00:47:30Not a chance.
00:47:31The hull's too deep.
00:47:32I just hate the idea of all that walking.
00:47:35Stop thinking about it.
00:47:37All we have to do is get around a couple of those bands.
00:47:41We'll shortcut through the jungle.
00:47:43If we get below the rapids, I'll get the boys to build the dugout.
00:47:48They'll go back to where we ditched the boat.
00:47:51We'll continue on down to the dugout.
00:47:53How far?
00:47:55Far enough.
00:47:57So we'll be waiting.
00:47:59I'll never tell you what it passes.
00:48:03Let's go.
00:48:33I wish I'd thought to bring along some more razor blades and some soap.
00:48:57I guess I was too excited.
00:48:58I meant to do much thinking.
00:48:59Yeah.
00:49:00I can think of a lot of things we should have done.
00:49:04Yeah, like getting a map of Brazil.
00:49:07I bet we've covered miles we didn't have to.
00:49:10Must be pretty tough on Marlene.
00:49:14You know, she's quite a girl.
00:49:19Since you've been around her, Steve, I noticed something about you.
00:49:23Noticed what?
00:49:23Sort of a quietude inside.
00:49:27What's that supposed to mean?
00:49:30Only that perhaps something's happened to her and to you.
00:49:36Is all the only you've got an imagination as big as that Amazon itself?
00:49:39I hope you use it to help build that shelter.
00:49:41Here, let me do that.
00:50:00Oh, I found a couple of dead trees for firewood.
00:50:03Back over there.
00:50:04Right.
00:50:05Sometimes I see things in the flame.
00:50:19Almost images.
00:50:21Great imagination.
00:50:23Oh, I've got plenty of that.
00:50:24According to Steve, it's as big as the Amazon.
00:50:26He may be right at that, as far as some things go.
00:50:34You know, I've never figured anything in my whole life that worked out right for me.
00:50:38Oh, I had plenty of imagination, all right, but...
00:50:41I guess I just never learned how to use it.
00:50:44Sounds like you made a few gambles.
00:50:46I always imagined that one day I'd get lucky.
00:50:50But it just never happened.
00:50:53Oh, well.
00:50:54I think I'll take a walk before I turn in.
00:50:57I'm not sleepy.
00:51:00Must be that imagination, huh?
00:51:04Oh, I'll get a little more firewood.
00:51:19Ew.
00:51:19How about you, Steve?
00:51:31Do you see anything in the fire?
00:51:34No, I'm afraid not.
00:51:38No, I guess you wouldn't.
00:51:40You're not really the kind for that.
00:51:43I'm not.
00:51:44I think in that way, you're a lot different than I am.
00:51:48Some people are dreamers, in a sense.
00:51:51They make up little fantasies to block out the truth.
00:51:56But you?
00:51:57I think you look at reality as a challenge.
00:52:00And you won't deviate from it.
00:52:02It's a good code, but then it's made you want to give up your writing.
00:52:09It's a very good analysis.
00:52:12You've developed a great deal of insight for someone who spent their whole life on that island.
00:52:18I told you I had a lot of time to study people.
00:52:21And that's one place where emotions are basic.
00:52:24You're certainly right about that.
00:52:26I never told you why the Commandant had to keep him there tonight.
00:52:31No.
00:52:33It happened a long time ago when he was Captain of the Guards.
00:52:37The Commandant at that time was a man named De Armand.
00:52:40He was about to retire in the post open.
00:52:43But he wouldn't recommend my stepfather for it.
00:52:48One day he was out fishing with several of the Guards in a terrible storm.
00:52:51It became very bad.
00:52:55The engine was left.
00:52:57At night he radioed my stepfather to send a rescue ship.
00:53:02Of course it never left.
00:53:05My mother and I were the only witnesses in the radio.
00:53:09She, uh, she couldn't do anything?
00:53:11She tried.
00:53:13And eventually paid for it with her life.
00:53:16Oh, he didn't kill her.
00:53:18Not outwardly.
00:53:19She wasn't well.
00:53:21But I know she could have gotten better.
00:53:25But that was when I started to learn about people.
00:53:28It was my first lesson.
00:53:31And one I'll never forget.
00:53:35What about those fantasies you mentioned?
00:53:38Oh, they helped.
00:53:40For a lot of years.
00:53:42There didn't seem to be any other way I could exist.
00:53:46Then one day I made up my mind.
00:53:48I would get out.
00:53:49But I didn't know how or when.
00:53:54Only that someday it would happen.
00:53:55The day it out of interest.
00:54:00The day I come to tears.
00:54:02And I...
00:54:03I would remember.
00:54:05The day I did.
00:54:05The hour that I did.
00:54:06But I knew I wanted to mention.
00:54:07But now...
00:54:07To the next day.
00:54:08I wanted to be my children.
00:54:09Lorde.
00:54:09Well, don't try to hug me.
00:54:10And then a visitor is out.
00:54:10Of course.
00:54:12And I'll never forget.
00:54:13I had to keep my mind from one another day.
00:54:15So before you've been left...
00:54:16Has escaped me brought some iron fate.
00:54:17I had a village who had been fucked up now.
00:54:18And let's be mySteel.
00:54:19You won't love me.
00:54:20I karma for you.
00:56:53You're too late.
00:56:55No!
00:56:57Oh, Steve!
00:56:59That's the best we can do for him.
00:57:21Let's go.
00:57:23Well, that's not going to do any good.
00:57:27Dion knew what he was up against.
00:57:29Let's take you.
00:57:31Look.
00:57:33You've got to get hold of yourself.
00:57:37We've got a lot ahead of us.
00:57:39We're going to need all the strength we can get.
00:57:43Come on.
00:57:53Cabot!
00:57:55Over here.
00:57:57Come on.
00:57:59As you start down the river.
00:58:01The dugout's all ready.
00:58:03Tell me something, Worf.
00:58:05What?
00:58:06How long are we going to wait in that dugout?
00:58:07How do I know how long?
00:58:09Until we find them.
00:58:10Let's go.
00:58:11What if we don't find them?
00:58:13What's the matter with you?
00:58:15Nothing.
00:58:17Except that there is a possibility we may not find them.
00:58:20We ought to put a time limit how long we're going to wait.
00:58:22I made a flat deal for a bonus whether we take them back or not.
00:58:26You did, huh?
00:58:27Well, let me tell you something, Cabot.
00:58:29We'll find them all right.
00:58:31Because sooner or later they'll show up on that river.
00:58:33I don't care how well they take.
00:58:37If I were you, I wouldn't worry about spending that bonus until after you earn it.
00:58:41Let's go.
00:58:57Let's go.
00:58:58Let's go.
00:59:27Let's go.
00:59:28Let's go.
00:59:29Let's go.
00:59:30Let's go.
00:59:31Let's go.
00:59:32Let's go.
01:00:02Oh, my God.
01:00:32It must be very close.
01:01:02Oh, my God.
01:01:32What tribe do you think they are?
01:01:43They're the ones you think of.
01:01:46Well, they couldn't be.
01:01:51Yeah.
01:01:55They are our God.
01:01:58Get on this.
01:02:00What are we going to do?
01:02:05Nothing we can do.
01:02:08What did you find?
01:02:21The village isn't far away.
01:02:23I can see some smoke, even hear voices.
01:02:25Are there any of them around here?
01:02:26I don't think so.
01:02:27They seem to be starting some kind of ritual.
01:02:29Oh, Steve, I'm scared.
01:02:30Look, you wait here.
01:02:31I think you'll be safe enough until I get back.
01:02:33Why?
01:02:34What are you going to do?
01:02:35I'm going to try to help Worf and Cabot.
01:02:36Help them?
01:02:37Yes.
01:02:38Steve, they came after us.
01:02:39I know they did.
01:02:40What can you do to help them?
01:02:41Look, you've got to understand.
01:02:42Oh, Steve, let's get out of here.
01:02:43I've got to try to help them no matter who they are.
01:02:45Oh, Steve.
01:02:46If I'm not back in a few minutes, you go to the river.
01:02:50No!
01:02:51I'm staying with you.
01:02:53I guess I never could win an argument with you.
01:02:57Come on, let's take a look.
01:03:16I'm staying with you.
01:03:46Oh yeah, oh yeah, oh yeah
01:04:16Get out of here.
01:04:45Get out of here.
01:04:46Get out of here.
01:04:47Come on.
01:04:48There was a weapon.
01:05:16Look out.
01:05:17Come on.
01:05:18Let's go.
01:05:19Where's my lane?
01:05:21I said I'm gonna head to the river.
01:05:23We have a dugout.
01:05:25Look out!
01:05:29Come on, let's go.
01:05:49Come on!
01:06:15He's dead.
01:06:17We're almost to the river.
01:06:18Well, let's go.
01:06:19Wait a minute.
01:06:20If Marlene found your boat, those Indians know about it too.
01:06:22They probably do.
01:06:23And in their boats, they could overtake us in a matter of minutes.
01:06:25Well, we gotta try anyway. Come on!
01:06:26Just a minute, look.
01:06:27We'll get in the dugout, cross the river, hide in the jungle,
01:06:29push it down the river, empty.
01:06:31Yeah, that might work.
01:06:32And the courage will carry it on down.
01:06:34Come on.
01:06:48Come on.
01:06:49Come on.
01:06:50Come on.
01:06:51Come on.
01:06:52Here, look.
01:06:54Come on.
01:06:55Do you see?
01:06:56It's not moving very fast.
01:07:00The river flows a bit a little farther on down.
01:07:03They go for this.
01:07:04They'll have trouble trying to catch it down there.
01:07:08I'm not moving very fast.
01:07:11The river flows a bit a little farther on down.
01:07:14They go for this.
01:07:15They'll have trouble trying to catch it down there.
01:07:18They'll have trouble trying to catch it down there.
01:07:25I'll know in a few minutes.
01:07:39That's all they're keeping for you.
01:07:48It worked.
01:07:58They never looked around at all.
01:08:00Now go hit that dugout.
01:08:02Well, let's get going.
01:08:03No, wait.
01:08:05We all can relax now.
01:08:07They went hook, line and sinker for that dugout trick.
01:08:09Made the lower rapids by now.
01:08:11They'll be chasing you for hours.
01:08:13I still think we'd better move out.
01:08:14We've got a lot of jungle ahead.
01:08:18We've got a little excitement.
01:08:19I guess I forgot.
01:08:20I've no legal jurisdiction in this territory.
01:08:33If I did, I wouldn't use it.
01:08:37Thanks.
01:08:38You'd break your own law.
01:08:43A lot of rules were broken when...
01:08:47when you two risked your lives to save me and Cabot.
01:08:50Maybe for Cabot it was an awful short time.
01:08:53But you know, back there in that hut,
01:08:57we both became aware of something.
01:09:00Something...
01:09:01Well, that's more important than conventional.
01:09:06For that and saving my life, I want to thank you.
01:09:13I want to thank you.
01:09:16What?
01:09:21Well, uh...
01:09:22Look, you know where you are?
01:09:24Not too well.
01:09:25Well, uh...
01:09:26You haven't very far to go.
01:09:27Just a few miles to the northwest.
01:09:29It's a friendly native village.
01:09:30They'll guide you to a plantation.
01:09:32From there, I...
01:09:34You haven't far to go.
01:09:35What about you?
01:09:36Oh?
01:09:37I'll head east.
01:09:38Back to an outpost.
01:09:40Try to get some transportation back to St. Laurent.
01:09:43Will you stay there?
01:09:45I don't know.
01:09:47You know, I...
01:09:49I always wanted to be Commandant.
01:09:51Somehow it...
01:09:52It doesn't seem very important now.
01:09:55Well, goodbye, Worf.
01:09:57You know, you may not realize it, but...
01:09:59You've given me a great deal.
01:10:01What's that?
01:10:02A reborn faith.
01:10:04Well, how'd I do that?
01:10:06You'll know in a few months.
01:10:07Will you read about her?
01:10:08Good luck, Marley.
01:10:09All right, to you.
01:10:10From Brazil?
01:10:11No.
