00:00See you, baby. The text line's off and running, baby.
00:02610 sold us this BS, and now they're trying to spin it.
00:06That's why this station is a joke.
00:09Hey.
00:10Still number one and up for a Marconi, sucker.
00:13And your ears are listening right now, idiot.
00:15All of those are factual.
00:17All of those are factual.
00:18But you are lying, sir.
00:20And I don't mean that in the BS way.
00:25You're lying.
00:27We didn't try to spin nothing for you.
00:29Now, there might be some of y'all who can't stand this.
00:32But we tried our damnedest to get you prepared for this.
00:39Times of the offseason, I have said, hey, guys, say it out loud.
00:45Bring the offensive line coach who was here last year
00:47and promote him to be the one.
00:50That's the fix.
00:52Go get a guy who's never called plays before,
00:54never designed plays before.
00:56And hire the staff for him.
00:58Yeah, hire the staff for him.
00:59He brings nobody over except for some other guy.
01:02Chaplinsky, I think.
01:03I don't think I have that name right, but you get my point.
01:06It's a ski.
01:06It's a ski for sure.
01:07And listen, I'm not saying that you may have not heard that here,
01:11but you didn't hear that from the drive.
01:13The drive repeatedly tried to prepare you,
01:15even in the face of shut up, you haters,
01:18try to prepare you for the potential of this.
01:21So there ain't no spinning it here.
01:23We did our damnedest to try to prepare you for that.
01:27You got some poor timing on that old text message right there.
01:30Yeah, that is not over here on the drive.
01:34By the way, Clint, the Texans, on a reaction Monday,
01:38they fall 0-3.
01:40And what's the stat?
01:42Four out of the last 163 teams that started 0-3
01:47have made the playoffs since the playoff has expanded.
01:51Only one of 118 in this century have started 0-3
01:57and made the playoffs.
01:58I think that's the Texans.
01:59It was, yeah.
02:002018.
02:012018 when they started off.
02:03Is that the Colts year where they lost to the Colts in the playoffs
02:07to Andrew Luck and the Colts?
02:09Got to be.
02:10I think they got blasted.
02:11Yeah, yeah.
02:12I know it was 2018.
02:13I know it was the Texans.
02:14That was the last time it's happened.
02:16Was that Watson's first year?
02:17I picked – no.
02:18Oh, I think it was sicker, isn't it?
02:21I believe so, yeah.
02:22Won his rookie year.
02:23Yeah, because his rookie year, he didn't start until week four.
02:25Yeah.
02:26Week something like that, right?
02:27Because what's his name?
02:29Savage started several games.
02:30Yeah.
02:33Yeah, old Tom.
02:34I think Tom started – didn't Tom just make it the half?
02:37In the first game?
02:39I thought that was –
02:39Oh, maybe he did.
02:40I thought that way went down.
02:42I was covering the team at that point.
02:43I don't remember hardly anything.
02:45My memory is shocking.
02:46I just remember Bill saying he was the guy.
02:48He was the guy, and he lasted a half.
02:50It was halftime, yeah.
02:51Was it halftime of the first game?
02:53Yep.
02:53Jacksonville, wasn't it?
02:54Week one, yep.
02:55And then Watson came in and immediately showed some good things,
02:59and everyone was like, ah, look at this.
03:01Yeah.
03:03Anyway, but that's what they have in front of them, Flint,
03:07is their 0-3.
03:08Now, I would say they have the most talent
03:13and look like the best of the 0-3 teams left,
03:16and I would say they're separate from teams to me, just talent-wise,
03:20teams to me like the Saints and the Giants and the Jets and other teams.
03:24But they're in trouble, Clint,
03:27and we talked about it over the last couple of weeks.
03:31Now the Colts go 3-0 and dominate the Titans,
03:34and now they're three games behind them in the division,
03:37and obviously they lost to Jacksonville,
03:40so they're behind them as well.
03:41They're in trouble, Clint,
03:42and I think the big thing that you have, I think,
03:45tried to push across since the game ended is this is a different deal.
03:50This isn't just a, hey, it's week three, guys,
03:53and let's kind of let them get their bearings and take their time.
04:00This is more than that.
04:01Yeah, look, I mean, this isn't just a be patient, you know,
04:06this type of thing takes time, first-time play call or let him settle in.
04:11The guys don't know the terminology.
04:13Give them some time to figure it out.
04:14Everybody be patient.
04:15It's just not.
04:16I mean, you can look at it however the hell you want to,
04:19but it's just not.
04:19I mean, the football 101 things, this team does not do well.
04:23They are not coached.
04:25Top to bottom, this is not a well-coached football team.
04:28They're not crisp.
04:29They're not efficient.
04:34They don't communicate well.
04:37They're not very physical, contrary to C.J. Stroud's post-game presser.
04:41They're not an overly physical bunch.
04:44They're not aware situationally of, you know, the play clock and the game clock
04:51and what they want to get accomplished.
04:53I mean, according to the staff, they're not sound technically or mechanically.
05:00They struggle in that department.
05:01That's all they need to do to get better is work on those.
05:04This is just not a good football team.
05:08Again, they're poorly coached from techniques and mechanics all the way to how they operate
05:16on a day-to-day basis.
05:17It is clear offensively there is zero attention to detail.
05:21There is zero accountability in a sense of how you work, how hard you practice,
05:26how hard you run routes, and there's zero emphasis put on holding guys accountable
05:31that don't run routes the right depth or don't even run the right route at all,
05:36which is not surprising because, I mean, you know, you guys have to work
05:41and just doing his damnedest to protect Nick Kaley, who's responsible for all this crap.
05:44You think we're seeing it that bad?
05:46Like, there are guys just running the complete wrong route.
05:48Yeah, absolutely.
05:50You've got routes that aren't being ran at the right depth.
05:52I get that.
05:52You've got routes.
05:53There's a lot of half-ass.
05:55Call it.
05:56I know it's going to be convenient to say, oh, well, these guys, they're thinking.
05:59It's a new offense.
06:00They're thinking.
06:01Call it whatever you want.
06:02I mean, you just – you can't – there's so many things that are bad going on offensively.
06:09There's no way to fix this thing.
06:12You know, there's – you're running an offense that asks the quarterback,
06:18to be, like, elite mentally snap in, snap out.
06:28You're running an offense where communication has to be the number one priority.
06:33You're running an offense where your technique and mechanic has to be a huge advantage.
06:40You can do more with less.
06:42Yes, you don't have to have much more than Nico Collins at the wide receiver position.
06:45If all those other things are perfect, if your quarterback is, I mean,
06:51unbelievably aware of every tail that the defense has given him so he knows how to protect himself,
06:56if the offensive line technically, mechanically are unbelievably sound,
07:01if the communication is, like, elite.
07:04Like, you've got to have all those things, like, at an elite level in order for this offense to make sense,
07:11and they're just nowhere close on any of the above.
07:13I can't think of one thing that they do on an even average level.
07:18I don't even know.
07:19On average.
07:20I mean, look at – like, I want to look at Nick Cayley yesterday and say,
07:23hey, man, he threw several balls behind the line of scrimmage, and I love some of it.
07:27But you look up and, like, he's throwing a quick screen to Christian Kirk in a press man situation.
07:34But both receivers are pressed.
07:37Like, you can't –
07:39Does the quarterback have the ability to change that?
07:41Well, I don't know.
07:42I would hope so.
07:43But if he doesn't, if he doesn't, I mean, either he doesn't, which is bad,
07:48or he does and he didn't get it done, which is bad.
07:50So either way it goes, it doesn't change what we're talking about.
07:53Because I'm telling you, if you were out there, Clint, and you as a quarterback,
07:56and you saw our – I know what we got called, and we got pressed man,
08:00you know there's no chance this is going to work.
08:02It's impossible to block it.
08:04If it's a two-receiver screen, it's impossible to block it.
08:06You wouldn't just run it, would you?
08:07No.
08:08Absolutely not.
08:09Absolutely not.
08:10I would change the play.
08:11I would call a run player.
08:13I would change some kind of – I would stop everything I'm doing,
08:16change the protection to a real pass protection.
08:18I got man out there.
08:19Give me a little pick route.
08:20Give me some kind of rub route.
08:22Give me something out there where I got a chance.
08:23It don't have to be – well, yeah, you could do that too, didn't it?
08:25But where I was going, it could be the way you're doing it.
08:27Christian Kirk could motion in real quick,
08:29keep the same motion on it at the snap of the ball.
08:31He just goes right to the flats right now, and the outside receiver pick him.
08:34You got a great route.
08:35You got a high percentage throw.
08:35You got a great route.
08:36But I don't know if those mechanisms are in this offense or not.
08:40But I said this last night to Sean, guys, and I think this is –
08:45it's very elementary, but it's real.
08:49Like, you watched two quarterbacks that the expectations are probably higher
08:55than they should be for both of these quarterbacks at this point in time
08:57in their career.
08:59One guy in Trevor Lawrence.
09:02Watching that game, y'all tell me,
09:04how many times did y'all see Trevor Lawrence at the line of scrimmage
09:08doing dummy cadences, doing dummy calls,
09:11using snap count to try to get D'Amico's team.
09:14He got them to jump a couple times,
09:16but he's using it to try to get them to tip their hand of what they're doing.
09:19Who's blitzing?
09:19Who's bailing?
09:20What coverage are you in?
09:21How many times he sent people in motion to figure out what the coverage is?
09:24Ron, he did it consistently through the whole game.
09:28I don't remember the Texans doing it once.
09:31I mean, the Texans are trying to run a play as the third quarter's running out,
09:34expiring like they've got 20 minutes on the clock or something.
09:38Like, it's –
09:39I know that bothers Sean.
09:40Well, yeah, when it was happening, you should have heard him.
09:42Yeah, it's just like –
09:43I mean, it's just –
09:44And I'm at a point where I don't even want to bitch and complain about,
09:48like, what all's wrong.
09:50I just want to point out the handful of things that are –
09:55I want to make it very aware to the fans and our listeners.
09:58Like, I want to point out the things that are indicators of how far this team is
10:04from just doing things sound.
10:06Forget what kind of offense you're running.
10:07And just doing things in a sound manner.
10:11And you know how much a dummy cadence would help C.J. Stroud
10:15in that offensive line?
10:17Unbelievable amount.
10:18Do you know how much a tight end that would just chip on that last play
10:21at any time for Ariante Urshel?
10:23You know how much that would help him?
10:24Yes.
10:25I mean, just a little –
10:26Not every play.
10:26I mean, I'd do it every play, but you don't have to do it every play.
10:29Just when –
10:30Running back to run by and just hit him.
10:31Just when the game's on the line.
10:33And the bad thing is, you're lining guys up there and doing it.
10:36They're lining up right there.
10:37All the dudes do it.
10:38They're running –
10:39They're avoiding it.
10:41The handful of things offensively that they're not doing is just an indicator
10:44of how far this offense is.
10:46And I can't believe D'Amico Ryans, being the football guy that he is,
10:49has overlooked this offense for an entire training camp.
10:53And this is the product we get.
10:54And while you're on that, like that to me was the – there were a lot of bad
11:01things yesterday.
11:02A lot of bad things.
11:03There were a lot of bad things confirmed afterwards in some of the press
11:07conferences, Clint.
11:08But the worst thing was – and we talked about this Friday.
11:14You did your key matchups and we talked about the key matchups.
11:17And we said when the Texans have the ball, the key matchup is Ariante Ursary
11:22against Josh Hines-Allen.
11:25And we talked about how big of a deal that is.
11:28And I said, but this cannot just be on Ursary.
11:31This has to be everybody.
11:33Not allowing Josh Hines-Allen to ruin the game.
11:37And not only did they just allow it,
11:40they said on the most important play of the game,
11:45we definitely just going to allow it.
11:47What they did in terms of not giving him help – and listen,
11:51Ursary after the game said he didn't play up to his standard
11:54and he takes full responsibility.
11:57Listen, big dog, I appreciate it.
11:59But that just – that wasn't on you, boss.
12:01That wasn't completely on you.
12:03All right?
12:04It's clear.
12:04I mean, he lets you know, hey, man, I need some help.
12:07I mean, with his play, I need some help.
12:10And you just let him go.
12:13I mean, he was holding on for dear life.
12:15If he wasn't getting a penalty – I mean, it was a bull rush speed.
12:20It didn't matter.
12:21That is wild.
12:22That was awful.
12:23Ron, we've talked – it's the most egregious thing by far that I saw this weekend.
12:29It's the most egregious.
12:30You've got a rookie left tackle in the game,
12:33and you should come into the game with a heavy chip package.
12:36You should come into the game doing your damnedest to minimize
12:39how many times you put that left tackle on an island.
12:42That should be a priority, number one.
12:43That should be a – Nick Casario should walk his ass in there and go,
12:47hey, man, don't leave my left tackle that I drafted in the second round.
12:49Don't leave him on an island.
12:51D'Amico ought to walk in there and say, hey, big Nick,
12:54I don't care what the hell you do offensively,
12:56but your ass better have a package to protect my left tackle.
12:58And Nick Cayley should have multiple ways,
13:03whether – he could bring a receiver in motion.
13:04Hell, they can't separate anyway.
13:05Bring a receiver in motion and bang the hell out of the ear hole of Josh Allen.
13:09Do it all.
13:10Empty the clip trying to help that left tackle.
13:13And what do these guys do?
13:14They claim – they claim every week we start with protection.
13:18Every week we start with protection.
13:20Before we even talk about route concepts and how we want to attack –
13:23every week we start with protection.
13:25And your ass can't protect your left tackle with the game on the line?
13:28You want me to make you even more sick about it, Ron?
13:31You want me to make you even more sick about it?
13:33Yeah.
13:33Texans fans, you want me to make you more sick about it?
13:36It was a base four-man rush.
13:38They didn't even play games with it.
13:39They didn't even walk the backers up in the gap.
13:41The backers were at depth.
13:42It was a four-man rush.
13:44It was tailor-made for C.J. Stroud to sit his ass back there
13:48in a nice, comfy pocket and pick somebody apart.
13:51And because the coaches on this team –
13:54I'm not blaming it all on Nick Cayley, by the way.
13:56You've got an O-line coach.
13:57You've got a head coach.
13:57You've got a court.
13:58You've got a GM all involved.
14:02The fact that there was not a chip.
14:05And the bad thing was, you lined Dalton Schultz up in the hip position right there
14:09and his ass avoided Hines on the way out to run the route.
14:13I mean, you ought to be –
14:14I mean, it's a crying-ass shame that that ended up happening.
14:17And what you end up doing is now you've got your rookie left tackle.
14:19I just go to the meeting and say, guys, I let y'all down.
14:21I mean, that was set up, Ron, for C.J. Stroud.
14:26That was first two, three series of the Tampa game
14:30where C.J. Stroud was sitting back there patting the football just doing his thing.
14:33It was tailor-made set up for success.
14:35I mean, they gave you – you could have done it.
14:37You should have come in right into the game with the plan.
14:41First quarter, he showed you he needed help.
14:42Oh, yeah.
14:43Second quarter, he showed you he needed help.
14:45I don't know what quarter that was where he had the back-to-back
14:48just egregious, off, like, clear hold that they got called
14:52and then followed it up with a bull rush in which he sacked C.J.
14:56That was a back-to-back.
14:58At that point, there is no way that we're doing any kind of,
15:02besides a three-step drop, get the ball out quick, without giving him help.
15:07And the final play of the game.
15:09Yep, yep.
15:10All through.
15:12Just wild.
15:14All right.
15:14From a group that starts with protection.
