00:00Let's not dilly-dally around.

00:12because we love it.
00:13We love the conversation, and on a day like today,
00:15this is what it needs to be.
00:178-5 Houston Texans football team.
00:19Get involved.
00:19713-572-4610 is the number to text.
00:23Also, appreciate you to the Moe Caron Injury Lawyers
00:25for the live streams.
00:26We keep it 100.
00:27On YouTube page, Sports Radio 610.
00:29In the Twitch chat of 610 Houston, John Lopez.
00:32This is a Texans team that is 8-5.
00:35They have won five games in a row,
00:37starting with three games won by their backup quarterback.
00:43I think that the chance to, like, the percent chance
00:45on the athletic playoff simulator that we've kind of made
00:50into a pseudo-bible of our own of late was dipped into,
00:54what was it, like the 20s?
00:55Yeah.
00:55At one point, they now get this after winning this game
01:00at Arrowhead 20-10, which has happened many times.
01:04It's not anywhere near a score of God, just in case you were making.
01:0792% chance of making the playoffs these Houston Texans.
01:13Can you think back to the various twists and turns,
01:16the near misses that got them here, having to scrape it out
01:20against the Jacksonville Jaguars, just barely, by a field goal,
01:24beating the Tennessee Titans, getting themselves to this place?
01:27There's a number of other instances where you can have that.
01:29And now this Texans team not only controls their own destiny for the playoffs,
01:33they've got a good shot of winning the AFC South again,
01:36and they look like the scariest mofos headed into the playoffs of anybody
01:41on at least this side of the bracket and maybe all the way around the NFL.
01:43Yeah, you know why they do?
01:44Because they are.
01:46You know, you always hear this term, this phrase,
01:49well, you can throw the records out.
01:51Yeah, Texans are 8-5.
01:52Yeah, they're number seven seeded in the playoffs.
01:54By the way, they are seeded sevens in the playoffs right now.
01:57You can throw all that out the window.
01:58Forget the numbers, forget all due respect, Reggie,
02:01forget the percent chances, the win probabilities, the playoff.
02:04I will never forget the percent chances.
02:05The playoff, seriously, seriously, forget all that.
02:08This is a scary, scary team that can do anything out there.
02:12And that was a monumental win, not just because of what, but because of who.
02:18And that, to me, was my biggest takeaway.
02:22We saw the end of something last night.
02:24Yeah, I know there's going to be Chiefs fans,
02:26and there's going to be people saying,
02:27oh, but Patrick Mahomes, yeah, Patrick Mahomes can get back to the mountaintop.
02:31There's no question about that.
02:32But that team, as we know it, is done.
02:34Not this year.
02:35No, the team, as we know it, is done.
02:38Travis Kelsey was seeing ghosts.
02:39You just heard the hot potato thing.
02:42The receivers were seeing ghosts.
02:44They were getting their cleats knocked off.
02:47At home.
02:48At home.
02:49In prime time.
02:51Against the Chiefs.
02:52In that environment.
02:53That was the end of something.
02:55Andy Reid got shook.
02:58And we're going to get into that a little bit when we talk about the defense.
03:01That was the end of the Chiefs as we know it.
03:04I'm not saying they're never going to get back to the top.
03:06That was the end of something.
03:08You know what else it was?
03:09It was the beginning of something.
03:10Oh, okay.
03:10I want to do both of these things simultaneously.
03:13I mean, I know where my feet are.
03:15I'm in Houston, Texas.
03:16The home of the Texans.
03:17Shout out to Slim Thug and so on and so forth.
03:21I'm kind of enamored.
03:23The scab is there to pick.
03:25Do we need to do the KC funeral?
03:27No.
03:27It's part of the Texan story.
03:29But this is a Texan story.
03:31Okay.
03:31All I'm doing is framing it.
03:32You know, that was the end.
03:34It was theater.
03:36It was dramatic.
03:38It was drama.
03:39The empire has fallen.
03:41The empire has fallen in Kansas City.
03:44That's part of the story for me of what the Texans are building.
03:48I'm not going to say empire.
03:49It's way too early for that.
03:51But I thought we saw very, very clearly this is a team, the Texans,
03:57that is to be reckoned with this season and moving forward.
04:00That's why I say, you know, the whole throw the records out.
04:03Throw the records out.
04:04Throw the records out.
04:04I know what I'm looking at.
04:06You know?
04:06Okay.
04:07I think the league know what they're looking at, too.
04:09Yeah.
04:09I will save the KC funeral for later.
04:11I do have the KC funeral on deck.
04:13I want to let you know that.
04:13That is part of it.
04:15But you said this was the end of something,
04:18and it was the beginning of something.
04:19And I would like you, if you could so please,
04:21to extrapolate and expand on that.
04:24Because I see you on the text line, 408.
04:26Why are y'all getting so excited?
04:28The Texans have been here before.
04:29All of this only to be knocked out of the playoffs.
04:32That is a question that you can be asked.
04:33But this one feels different, though.
04:35Okay, go ahead.
04:36The four is yours.
04:37Yeah, remember when Bill O'Brien led Houston Texans 1?
04:41What was it, like eight games in a row or nine games in a row?
04:44Yeah, they started 0-3 like this team.
04:46Yeah.
04:46We didn't feel like this.
04:48I think, and to be fair, I think all of us were sitting here like,
04:52yeah, it's cool, but we had like a lot of questions.
04:55Did you feel like this?
04:57No, I didn't.
04:57I didn't.
04:58You talking about that last time?
04:59Yeah.
05:00No, I didn't.
05:00I didn't.
05:01And we knew it was kind of food's gold.
05:03Yes, and we're waiting for the other shoe to drop.
05:06The Texans are the shoe.
05:08That drops upon other people.
05:11And they'll stick it right up here.
05:12You know what?
05:13And here's where I want to go with the Texans.
05:15You know, I said the empire has fallen.
05:17I don't care what anybody says.
05:18It has.
05:19They could still rework things and bring in some players.
05:22You keep wondering.
05:23I got the KC fielding wrong.
05:25No, no, no.
05:25What I'm saying, though, is let's get to the Texans, though.
05:27Yeah.
05:28Yes, C.J. Stroud had an awful third quarter.
05:30Undeniable.
05:30Well, you say C.J. Stroud.
05:31I think that the offense.
05:32Well, the offense did.
05:33Like, actually, I would put that more squarely on Nick Haley when it comes to that.
05:38But, yeah, the entirety of the offense had a rough third quarter.
05:40But ultimately, C.J. Stroud made Patrick Mahomes' plays.
05:46This defense made Chiefs' plays.
05:50This team, even though some early, you know, mistakes here and there and bad moments
05:56and unforced errors and all that, they got Chiefs' breaks and calls, ultimately.
06:02This is a team that the – I mean, let's just say it.
06:06This looked like the first hints of the torch passing.
06:12I really believe this.
06:14The torch passing.
06:15Yeah, that's the thing that caught my attention where I was like,
06:18that feels like a coronation that you're doing of the Texans in this moment.
06:21I'm not putting a coronation.
06:23I'm not putting a crown on them.
06:25But what I am saying is this.
06:26I – you guys know I've seen this squad and other Houston professional football squads a lot.
06:33You have?
06:33I haven't felt –
06:3417 years on the radio.
06:3617 years on the radio.
06:37How many years?
06:38Going on 19 years on the radio.
06:39My bad.
06:40I didn't mean to short you a couple.
06:4119 years on the radio.
06:4217 at the Chronicle.
06:42Okay.
06:43That's cute.
06:43And then, obviously, an Oilers fan from way back when.
06:49I have never felt as confident about a football team as I feel about this one.
06:53You can talk about House of Pain and Warren Moon and my buddy Dan Pastorini and all that stuff because he's probably listening.
07:03Hi, Dan.
07:03And all that stuff.
07:05You can put that all out there.
07:07I have never felt this good about a squad in this city.
07:11You know what's funny because there are no Pender notes, but my Reggie notes, I actually did pretty well for what I thought on a Sunday night football I'd be able to do.
07:19At one point, I wrote down, and it was as the fourth quarter was turning over, I was kind of amazed that there has not been a point to this point in the season where I felt more comfort in the idea that D'Amico Ryan's message of it's about how you finish was going to demonstrate itself.
07:41Headed into the fourth quarter, this defense made it abundantly clear.
07:45Like, even with the offense, coming off of a third quarter where the offense was abysmal, I'm willing to use a word that harsh.
07:51That was an ugly, ugly third quarter that we will talk more about for this offense.
07:54But I was like, yeah, and even still, you're looking at a game where, yeah, this defense is going to, is not going to let anything happen.
08:02And the offense will find something to finish.
08:05What is the something?
08:06Apparently it's three yards and a cloud of gosh darn dust.
08:08But it is something.
08:10And I think that that filters into what you're talking about of, like, it might not even be, definitely not the most explosive offense, or, like, it might not be this or that compared to teams of yesteryear.
08:23But the idea that when that moment comes, I feel entirely comfortable in what this team is going to deliver in that moment, I think that speaks volumes for what this team is.
08:31Yeah, I'm not sitting here thinking, oh, the torch has been passed.
08:34It sounded like that for a second, I'll be honest.
08:36I am saying this.
08:39The empire is done.
08:40That part.
08:41As far as the Texans.
08:42This is the, what, for the first time in nine seasons, I believe, they will not win the AFC West?
08:48That is wild.
08:49But I am saying this.
08:50I think there's going to be a day, maybe in a few weeks, maybe in a year or two, where we look back at this game and we point to it and we say, that's when it started to change.
09:00Right there.
09:01Right there.
09:02You can talk about, and three weeks ago I was talking about, hey, this defense, you can win against anybody.
09:07And I believed it then.
09:08And I certainly believe it now.
09:09I have a friend that tapped in from out of town that was like, is your co-host saying that they're going to be a Super Bowl team?
09:16And buddy, you have looked, you just never wrong, just early.
09:20Never wrong, just early.
09:23But so what I am saying is like, because of this game, this was not a normal win.
09:28I don't care what anybody says.
09:30This was not a normal win, given the circumstances that we just laid out.
09:33This defense, my goodness, of course, we're going to talk about that.
09:36But the biggest tell of the night was the Texans made Chiefs plays on both sides of the ball.
09:41Dude, you used a phrase that is very similar to a phrase that I got from a friend who is also funny enough a writer.
09:48So it makes sense that your writer brain took you to this place.
09:51Because somewhere in the second quarter, I got a text that said, man, CJ is making plays that are downright Mahomesian.
09:57Yeah.
09:58And he absolutely was, right?
09:59Not to go back and rehash conversations that were had way too much.
10:04And that, in that organization, never had any level of roots.
10:07But Davis Mills isn't making some of the plays that, CJ making plays off, you know, off schedule was fantastic in this game.
10:15This was a very good game.
10:16Throwing across his body.
10:17Dude.
10:17You know, weaving it between two defenders.
10:19Was that a 53-yard pass where he's rolling to his right, throwing back across his body and, you know,
10:23having just an innate connection with the Nico Collins coming back to the football
10:27and making a huge play in that moment that was absolutely necessary.
10:31CJ was fantastic.
10:32But also, another Mahomes play is not just knowing when to do that, but knowing just when to throw it at the feet of someone.
10:38He did that some, too.
10:39Yeah.
10:39You know, he was sort of like, not just, I'm just going to hurl up there and see what happens.
10:44It's like, no, I think I got a chance here.
10:46Oh, I don't have any chance?
10:47Throw it in the dirt.
10:47Yeah, live to see another day.
10:49Yeah.
10:49Yeah.
10:49It was, I'm kind of struggling with the feeling I'm having because this is, again, you know,
10:57the word that keeps coming back to me is monumental.
11:00Oh, okay.
11:01You know, paradigm shifting.
11:02It was that kind of game.
11:03Let me ask you this.
11:04Do you feel really, really confident now that you see who's at the top and the teams that were at the top a couple years ago?
11:13You beat.
11:13Yes.
11:14Lamar Jackson is not going to make the playoffs more than likely.
11:17Patrick Mahomes is not going to make the playoffs more than likely.
11:19You know.
11:20Buffalo.
11:21You beat Buffalo.
11:21Josh Allen, you sacked him eight times.
11:24At the top of the, the quarterbacks at the top of the standings are, all due respect, of course.
11:28Bo Nix.
11:29Drake May.
11:31Bo Nix.
11:32Trevor Lawrence.
11:34You kidding me?
11:35Yeah.
11:35I mean, think about the top three quarterbacks.
11:38I think that's why I'm kind of, you know, I'm not there with the Super Bowl stuff yet.
11:43I guess because I'm just nervous about it.
11:46But when you name those three quarterbacks that up top, I'm like, man, I think they could beat them.
11:51Yeah, absolutely.
11:52And the reason why is we have to come back to it.
11:54And it feels like it's, sometimes it's hard to stay in this place because it feels like, all right, what else is there to be said that has not been said?
12:00But good golly, this defense.
12:02Man.
12:03There are so many things to be, to appreciate with this defense.
12:06It's, they've gotten finer.
12:08And it's funny because one of the things that gave me that confidence in the fourth quarter when I'm like, oh, the defense is going to handle it.
12:14It's not like, well, we've seen all the things that you can do and now we can game plan for it.
12:18The Texans come in.
12:20They're like, we're, you know what we're going to do.
12:22We know what we're going to do.
12:24But we're going to be so damn good at it that you can't do anything about it.
12:27And it's funny because on top of that, you can see the instances where they're better.
12:31The interior defensive line was bellissimo, right?
12:35The way that it happened, because you could see Sheldon Rankins at times being very careful about, all right, I am very cognizant that this is a moment where we've gotten far upfield and this is probably where Patrick Mahomes tries to escape forward.
12:47And one of those plays late in the fourth quarter, I believe it was even Mario Edwards, who as Patrick Mahomes steps forward, steps back like, all right, I'm disengaging because I know that this is a moment where it is now incumbent upon me to make a play.
12:58Okay, how about number four, Kamari Lasseter?
13:01My goodness.
13:02Like, it was mentioned, I think, very briefly on the broadcast by Tariqo and Collinsworth.
13:07And boy, Collinsworth, man, you just can't help yourself, can you?
13:10That guy needs to put a sock on the door.
13:11Shoot!
13:12Right.
13:13He sounded dejected at that point.
13:15He did.
13:16Kamari Lasseter was dealing with a foot injury during this week.
13:19We had a conversation where we talked about the fact that I'm a little concerned with the speed element that this Chiefs team can't present.
13:25Well, Rasheed Rice isn't anymore.
13:27Yeah, man, like, I think Kamari might have gotten semi-got once, and it's not like they helped him out.
13:34He's out here with something in his foot and already giving up a little foot speed, I think we can acknowledge to some receivers, and he is on it.
13:42He goes and gets an interception because he's in the right place, and he is still every bit as physical.
13:47Like, that is fantastic play.
13:49You got three interceptions in this game.
13:51Your matchup zone shows up in the times when you need it.
13:54Big fourth down PBU by Derek Stingley running through the muck.
13:57Like, this was a fantastic showing, and that's talk less of Jalen Petrie being out here being the most destructive wrecking ball that is the nicest human being that you've ever met.
14:05That's true.
14:06And you know the best tell, the best tell, and I challenge you guys, and I challenge every single one of our listeners to tell me I'm wrong on this.
14:15I wanted the Texans defense to take the field.
14:18How often can you say that about your squad?
14:20Like, it's a close game.
14:21It's a one-score game.
14:23Yeah.
14:23And that's Patrick freaking Mahomes, who's done it a million times.
14:29And I was sitting there in the fourth quarter saying, I'm glad that I want to see this defense.
14:33I want to see what they're going to do against this team.
14:35Where does Patrick Mahomes rate all time as the quarterback that you want in that moment?
14:40One, two, or three.
14:42Like, he's not falling off the podium.
14:45And still, that matchup is such that.
14:47And I wanted.
14:47Did y'all feel that way?
14:48Actually, this was the first time probably ever where I wasn't nervous that Patrick Mahomes had the ball.
14:55Right.
14:56Because usually I'm like, oh, man, he about to march down the field and score.
15:00But this is the first time where I'm like, I'm confident.
15:04Bring it.
15:05Bring it.
15:05That was a long night for him, man.
15:07And even in the context of this season, there's been times where, all right, defense on the field.
15:12Yeah.
15:13Right.
15:13Oh, man.
15:14Tampa game.
15:15Yeah.
15:16Right.
15:16Oh, Jacksonville.
15:17Oof.
15:18What is it?
15:19Bo Nix.
15:21Yeah.
15:21Not today.
15:22Not against Patrick Mahomes.
15:24In his house.
15:25Right.
15:25Like, this was a performance where Patrick Mahomes.
15:27I got to pull up the stats again.
15:28Because there's a number of stats that illustrate to a great degree just how fascinating the last few weeks have been for this defense.
15:36I think when it comes to Mahomes and Josh Allen combined, 38 of 67, 413 pass yards.
15:44That's two games with two of great quarterbacks.
15:46No touchdowns.
15:47Six interceptions.
15:48Right.
15:48Like, this is, or six turnovers, rather, five interceptions.
15:52And to have both of them in late moments go, yeah, no, we'll handle this up.
15:56We will stand on our, in fact, even better than the game versus the Bills because the Bills were able to make a few plays and then you stopped them in the red zone.
16:03This one, it was like, nah, we're cutting the water off.
16:05No, 100%.
16:07Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen have a 44 quarterback rating against this squad.
16:1444.
16:14I wanted to see them on the field.
16:17And that, for all those people, yeah, but we've been here before.
16:21Not like this.
16:22Dude, you're preaching to the choir.
16:24I mean, I felt that every time.
16:26I don't feel that right now.
16:27But just look at the field, though.
16:28Just look ahead of you.
16:30The people that hit, I mean, do you feel confident?
16:32You could probably, I know you lost to the Broncos, but do you feel confident if y'all, if we had to play the Broncos again that you'll probably get this win?
16:39Exactly.
16:40Bo Nix, Drake May, and again, he deserves a lot of credit.
16:43Yeah, do you feel confident playing the Jacks?
16:45Trevor Lawrence?
16:46Yeah.
16:47I mean, this is...
16:48Although, this is a fun weekend to do it because Trevor Lawrence might have put up one of his best games.
16:53He did.
16:53Yeah, they look like they rolling since that last loss to the Texans.
16:57Hey, Josh Allen put up a great game before and after the Texans.
17:00Houston made a cameo in Liam Cohen's actual post-game press conference.
17:05That is the level of, I don't know, fantastic play that you've gotten from this defense and from this team.
17:12And now, for yet another island game, another instance where you're on the major stage, the Texans deliver on prime time, the Texans deliver on the cold, the Texans deliver at night, the Texans deliver at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium in a way that literally no one else has in the Patrick Mahomes era.
17:32That's 10 points for the Chiefs, which is the lowest outcome or lowest point scoring total from a Chiefs team under the Mahomes era at home.
17:40Like, this is unequivocally an incredible win, and you deserve to celebrate it as such.
17:46You're 8-5 Texans that look like they are bounding their way into the playoffs.
17:49In fact, they are currently, for the first time this season, inside the boundaries of the playoff hopefuls.
17:56And what a time it is to be alive in the great city of Houston, Texas.
17:58Yeah, yeah, this, like I said, this ain't like they getting all these wins but losing to the Chiefs or losing to the Bills or losing to the Ravens.
18:09Nah, you beat these teams, man, and right now you rolling.
18:122-8-1, most satisfying win as a Texans fan.
18:16Ooh, okay, 7-1-3-5-7-2-4-6-10.
