00:00Okay, so you were on the last away Ryder Cup winning team.
00:03This is back in Medina in 2012.
00:06Out of the last nine Ryder Cups, eight of the nine have been won by home teams.
00:10So you're in that locker room Saturday night.
00:13You guys are down 10-6.
00:14That United States team, you go back and look at that lineup they had over there.
00:20Most of those guys were at the peak or the top of their form of their career,
00:24and that was as strong of a U.S. team as we've had in a long time.
00:28I think the performance from the guys at Whistling Straits, obviously, was incredible.
00:32But that was a very, very strong lineup at 2012.
00:35So when you guys are getting ready for that next day,
00:38knowing that that Sunday singles the United States and overcoming four points is a lot,
00:43I mean, did you think you had a chance?
00:45And what was the game plan going into Sunday?
00:49Yeah, you know, it was a really strange week.
00:51Jose Maria Lafobal was the captain,
00:53and I've been on a couple of Ryder Cups where he was an ice captain,
00:57and he was a phenomenal vice captain.
00:59But, like, you know, as a captain, he was a bit different.
01:01He was a little bit more cerebral, a little bit less emotional.
01:05He was very emotional as a vice captain.
01:07I remember him coming in at Valhalla.
01:10You know, Sebi had just passed away maybe not long,
01:13maybe a few years before that, I think.
01:14And I remember him make a speech at Valhalla on the Saturday night.
01:18I mean, we were getting pretty smoked.
01:20But, you know, we were all – everyone was pretty much in tears, you know,
01:25on the team.
01:25You don't listen to Jose talking about Sebi and kind of, you know,
01:28how much Sebi would give to be there.
01:30And Jose was not particularly fit himself at the time.
01:35And, you know, just talking about how much he'd give to be playing
01:38and be in our shoes, you know.
01:39And it was very, very emotional stuff.
01:41And, you know, like I say, as a captain, he was great,
01:42maybe a bit more cerebral.
01:43But Friday we lost 5-3, and we came into the team room that night
01:51back at the hotel, and you've just pretty much ripped us a new one.
01:54Was that surprising?
01:55It was surprising because, you know, Jose normally kind of –
01:59he's normally a lover, not a fighter.
02:01He's just kind of one of those guys that's going to give you a hug
02:03every time he sees you.
02:04But, like, we sit down in the team room, and he chews us out, you know,
02:08for our behavior on the golf course that day.
02:11He basically said, you know, one player is walking down one side
02:14of the fairway, the other one's down the other side of the fairway.
02:16He said, you guys are a team.
02:18You need to act like a team.
02:19And I was thinking to myself, no, I thought I was pretty good
02:23with my teammate out there today.
02:24I played with Rory that day.
02:25But, yeah, I'm not sure what particular group he was talking about.
02:28But he was upset about the way we had conducted ourselves as a team.
02:33And he basically kind of said to us, you know, that next day that,
02:37you know, the two players needed to, you know, walk down that fairway
02:41like they were one, you know, and protect each other
02:44and play for each other.
02:45And that was kind of the message on Friday night.
02:48You know, he was pissed off, and he was pissed off at what he'd seen.
02:51And we all went to bed with our tail between our legs a little bit.
02:55So then, you know, fast forward like 24 hours,
02:58and we lose Saturday 5-3 as well.
03:01But, you know, Pulsar birdies in those last five holes that afternoon
03:04with Rory, you know, Rory standing in the 18th green,
03:07that image of him just shaking his head as Pulsar rolls in another 12,
03:1115-footer, you know, and just, you know, goes fully in Pulsar on it,
03:16you know, full of the Ryder Cup Pulsar.
