00:00I want to start with Trey Yosavage.
00:02Yosavage comes up for a Blue Jays team that is leading the American League East and currently
00:07holds on to the top American League seed.
00:09So they are in line for a first round buy.
00:11They would not have to play the wildcard series.
00:13Yosavage was the 20th overall pick by Toronto last year out of East Carolina.
00:18And Yosavage has been as intriguing in arm as we have in minor league baseball this season.
00:24Seven starts in low A, four in high A, eight appearances in double A, six appearances in
00:30triple A, 98 innings.
00:32He's punched out 160 guys.
00:34That's 15 strikeouts per nine.
00:37And oh, by the way, he's got a 3.12 ERA.
00:40Funny thing during his media availability, Yosavage was asked about how he found out.
00:45And he said the manager in Buffalo called him in and said, you've got two options.
00:49You can either shut down throwing this year or you can go to Toronto and join the big league
00:53club.
00:53And he said, I feel like that was probably the better decision for my career was to go
00:57to Toronto.
00:58What are Blue Jays fans and the Blue Jays getting from Yosavage?
01:01I mean, I know people love the way that he competes on the mound.
01:04So I think they're really going to enjoy that.
01:06But how about just one of the more dominant pitchers this year that we've had in minor
01:10league baseball?
01:11And it's interesting because they have been managing his innings a little bit, right?
01:14You look at really since he's got to triple A and since you look at the futures game when
01:19he threw you during the all-star break, he has not exceeded five innings since then.
01:24And they really haven't let him go much more than 50 pitches in the last three outings.
01:29But I think that was maybe with this in mind, because before that he was going 83 pitches
01:33a couple of times in a row there.
01:34But the pitch mix is just so, so fun to watch because it's this super high over the top
01:40release, which I actually think will be the highest release in major league baseball when
01:44he gets up there.
01:45If not, it'll be a close second.
01:47But then also from that release point, a really nasty three pitch mix.
01:53He gets great vert on the fastball, despite it being such a high release point, that vert
01:56still plays up.
01:57And then working off of that, it's just a tunneling nightmare for hitters where you've got the
02:02splitter diving straight down below that.
02:04And it really plays up from his release point.
02:06And then a gyro slider, that means it's working much more up and down as well.
02:10So the vertical tunnel there is just like, it is a very difficult at bat for hitters.
02:16It makes them effective against both lefties and righties.
02:20Just a quick little like statistical dive.
02:24Opponents are hitting 220 against his fastball, 200 against a slider with a 570 OPS and 059.
02:31against his splitter with a 260 OPS.
02:35And he throws a 22% of the time.
02:37That pitch has been one of the best pitches in minor league baseball.
02:39And it's because of that high release off of the high carry fastball.
02:43The splitter is just disgusting.
02:45To note, two of his six appearances in AAA came out of the bullpen.
02:50I had heard that is a possibility for you Savage, where he is effectively a piggyback.
02:55And that could be the case in October.
02:57However, you see you Savage throw innings four through six, and then he's out of the game
03:01to get to leverage.
03:02I like that because if there's one question that we have about the Jays, it's that bullpen.
03:06And maybe he can allow you to bridge in some of the outings that your top guys, your starters
03:12don't throw that well.
03:13And then you can save the leverage arms a little bit longer for that higher leverage.
03:18And I think him in shorter spurts would be pretty fun to watch because maybe that fastball
03:22ticks closer to the average 94 and a half on the year.
03:25Maybe it's closer to 96, 97 with the adrenaline as well.
03:28And then that splitter is going to just dominate off of it.
03:31So I love the pitch mix.
03:34I love that they're bringing him up.
03:35And I think he's a guy that absolutely can help them this year.
03:38The big question is just the command.
03:40But if you're using him in two, three inning spurts, I don't think that matters as much.
03:44We got about two minutes left.
03:45San Francisco is a game and a half out of the final wildcard spot.
03:48All right.
03:49The Mets have dropped eight to 10.
03:50They'd get a walk off win on Sunday.
03:52But San Francisco has held their ground.
03:54They're a game over 500, game and a half back.
03:56And Bryce Eldridge is coming up for them.
03:5920 year old, first baseman, 16th overall pick in 2023.
04:03Eldridge this year between double A and triple A hitting 260 with 25 homers, 84 driven in and
04:10slugging over 500.
04:11Why did Eldridge make sense for San Francisco right now?
04:15It's funny because a few weeks ago, the reports were, Hey, he may not get up this year.
04:19I think they may have him focus and just lock in and triple A giants start winning a lot
04:23of ball games.
04:24And also Bryce Eldridge starts raking.
04:25I mean, and he was doing well this year, but when you look at since the start of August,
04:31that's August 1st, he's at eight 90 OPS over his last 25 games.
04:35He's got that strikeout rate to about 26, 27% and has been mashing as well.
04:39So he comes up at a point where Dom Smith hits the IL team is getting closer to the playoffs
04:44and he's swinging it really well.
04:46Why not bring up the number 16 prospect in baseball for us?
