00:00Government has managed to bankroll the construction of schools, hospitals, vital infrastructure,
00:06and fill out the need for essential services to the public,
00:09in no small part the financial contributions of government-owned and controlled corporations, or GOCCs, all 53 of them.
00:17Earlier today, the president expressed his heartfelt appreciation
00:20and gave them their flowers at a gathering in Malacanang's Calayaan Hall.
00:24Over 116 billion pesos.
00:29This was the amount remitted by 53 government-owned or controlled corporations, or GOCCs,
00:34from January to September of this year.
00:37President Ferdinand R. Marcus Jr. proudly highlighted this milestone during the celebration of GOCC Day.
00:43The president recognized the contributions of these agencies,
00:46whose remittances help fund schools, hospitals, bridges, and other essential public services.
00:51They represent children learning in safer schools, patients receiving care in improved facilities,
00:58communities shielded from floods and disasters, and families given a fairer chance at a better life.
01:05So today, we recognize the institutions that have exemplified the very best of public service.
01:12From 36 billion a decade ago, GOCC remittances have nearly quadrupled,
01:17a reflection of their hard work and dedication to fulfill the mandate
01:21of turning over at least 50 percent of their income as dividends to the national government.
01:26As recognition, the president approved the compensation and position classification system, too,
01:30which will increase the salaries of GOCC employees.
01:34He also authorized the release of medical allowances, depending on the capacity of each agency.
01:39The increases will retroact to 1 January, 2025, upon receipt of their authority to implement from the GCG.
01:50The last salary increase for GOCC employees was in 2021,
01:55covering the Land Bank of the Philippines, the Banco Central ng Pilipinas,
01:59the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation,
02:02and agencies managing the country's major airports and seaports.
02:05Along with this, the president directed GOCCs to eliminate red tape and further improve public service.
02:12Above all, President Marcos called for the proper use of every peso
02:15to ensure that public funds benefit the Filipino people.
02:19With utmost transparency and accountability,
02:23these funds should promote genuine reforms that uplift the quality of life,
02:28reach the vulnerable, and leave a lasting contribution for the generations to come.
