00:00The Presidential Communications Officer, PCO, assured that the government has sufficient mechanisms to combat fake news in the country.
00:07During tonight's budget deliberation of the House Committee on Appropriations,
00:11one of the key topics discussed was the proliferation of misinformation and disinformation in the country,
00:16an issue the PCO assured it is actively addressing.
00:20For fiscal year 2026, the PCO is requesting a total budget of over 2.8 billion pesos,
00:25which includes funding for its attached agencies and government-owned corporations.
00:30According to the PCO, its key priorities for the coming year included enhanced media coverage and information dissemination,
00:38strengthened transparency and accountability, promotion of government programs and policies,
00:43effective diplomatic engagement and international representation, and revitalization of state-owned media networks.
00:49In terms of the systems in place, we have certain fact-checking and verification processes in place.
01:03We have our media and information literacy campaign and the digital governance and unified messaging platforms.
01:11So there is a system in place apart from the reactionary approach that we described earlier.
