00:01Good evening from Ibrox after an extremely eventful match between Rangers
00:07and Hearts. Let's get the score out of the way. It finished Rangers 0 Hearts 2. It
00:12feels slightly churlish to focus on Rangers after a big win for the Jambos,
00:17their first here since 2014. They sit top of the league with 13 points from 15
00:21and their great start to the season of Derek McInnes continues apace but the
00:26story sadly for Russell Martin remains about him the embattled Rangers head coach
00:31feels like he's on the brink here in Gubbon. Basic 10th in the league, five
00:39games without a win in the top flight, four draws and then a defeat here to
00:44Hearts. They lost convincingly the Jambos were well worth their win and Martin
00:51faced all manner of abuse from the Rangers supporters who made it really clear
00:56what they want to happen next. They want him gone from this club. They don't want
01:00him to be the head coach anymore. It was so telling. In fact there was a moment in
01:05this match when Laurence Shanklin stepped up to take a penalty for Hearts and before he
01:09hit it the Rangers fans were chanting for Martin to very impolitely leave the
01:15premises. The head coach spoke to the media about half an hour after the full-time
01:20whistle. Pretty short press conference by his standards. He was ashen faced and quite
01:25terse with journalists and fan media. He was asked outright will he resign and the
01:29answer was a resounding no. He was asked if he had talks planned in the Rangers
01:33hierarchy. The answer was also a no. Although you have to think that the Rangers
01:37board, whether it's here in Glasgow or over in the States where Chairman Andrew
01:42Cavanaugh resigns, they now must be wondering if they've made a mistake. This
01:45Rangers team is showing no signs of progress under Martin. He's been backed in the
01:51trance window. He gave debuts to a few of his new players. Derek Cornelius, defender
01:55and £8 million signing Yusuf Cermiti came off the bench. They couldn't turn the tide.
02:01This Rangers team is devoid of many of the basics that's required to succeed here. Martin
02:06actually admitted afterwards that his players look scared of playing for this club, which
02:13is a damning indictment, not just on them but also on him. They just don't look comfortable
02:17with what's going on at Rangers right now. And you do wonder, for all concerned, maybe
02:21it's best if the Ibrox side and Martin do part company. No doubt there'll be conversations
02:26at the highest level of the Ibrox hierarchy over the next 24 hours after this really, really
02:32damaging defeat by Hearts. Next weekend, it's the other Edinburgh club, Hibs, that rock up
02:38in Govan looking to get a victory in the Premier Sports Cup quarterfinals. You wonder if they'll
02:43be greeted by Martin or not. It finished here, a seismic day at Ibrox, Rangers 0, Hearts 2.
