Badaun, Uttar Pradesh | A shocking case has emerged from Badaun district, where a 52-year-old woman, mother of nine children, left her husband of 32 years and eloped with her lover. The case falls under the jurisdiction of Usaihat police station.
The woman, identified as Neelam, is married to Ompal, a resident of Kheda Jalalpur village. Ompal works in Delhi, while Neelam lived with their children in the village. Out of their nine children, three are married, while the youngest is only 10 years old.
Earlier Incident of Elopement: According to police records, on June 2, 2025, Neelam told her children she was going to drown herself in the river. Alarmed, her youngest daughter informed Ompal, who rushed from Delhi. However, investigations revealed that Neelam had instead fled with her lover, Pappu (35), a resident of Bahediya village in Kasganj district.
Police later traced her and handed her back to her husband. Neelam assured Ompal that she would not repeat the act, and the matter was resolved.
Eloped Again With 10-Year-Old Daughter: Barely a month later, on July 2, 2025, Neelam once again left home with Pappu—this time taking her 10-year-old daughter, Anjali, along.
Ompal lodged a complaint with the police on August 12, following which an FIR was registered on August 13 against Pappu and his brother Virendra.
Court Proceedings: On September 10, Neelam appeared at the police station and was produced before the court. When asked whom she wished to live with, she expressed her decision to stay with her lover Pappu. The court accordingly allowed her to go with him.
Family and Property Dispute: Ompal, devastated by the turn of events, has accused his wife of not only leaving the family but also taking jewellery, cash, and their youngest daughter. He also claimed that Neelam has possession of 3.5 bighas of agricultural land, registered in her name, which he had purchased over the years through his earnings.
“The land is worth around ₹15–18 lakh today. I worked hard to buy it, but now both my wife and property are gone. I only want my daughter and my land back,” Ompal told the police.
Family Background: The couple has nine children—Kaushal (30), Preeti alias Pinky (25), Gaurav (22), Shivani (19), Nikhil (17), Shyamsundar (16), Akhilesh (12), and Anjali (10). Their son Neeraj (28) died by suicide last year.
The case has caused a stir in the region, with villagers expressing shock over Neelam’s decision to abandon her family at this stage of life.
