00:00I want to get your just career when it comes to TV, Charles, because you've been long respected as one of the best analysts in the game and and you really do it your own unique way.
00:12And when you got into the TV business, Charles, was it easy for you to to quickly just be yourself or did somebody want you to try to be some somebody you weren't in those first couple of years?
00:23No, you know, it's interesting. I think the one thing that sucks about my job is when I have to criticize players because I'm I'm always a player at heart.
00:32But that goes with the job. And, you know, you find that out right now.
00:38The guy who hired or not hired me, who I was who talked to me about television is a guy named Dick Ebersaw.
00:45He says, hey, what do you think about TV? You retire. You only got a couple of years left.
00:50I says, yeah, I don't know what I'm going to do when I retire. He says, I think you're going to I think you would be great on television because I see how you handle the press.
00:57You're just a straight shooter. He says, I think you'll be great on television.
01:00He says, you're always going to be in trouble, but you're going to be great.
01:05And I said, what the hell does that mean? He said, Charles, when people tell you they want honesty, they really don't want honesty.
01:13They want you to repeat if they agree with you. I said, what?
01:17He says, yeah, you know, he said, people say they want honesty, but they don't.
01:22He said, and fans definitely don't want honesty.
01:25Fans want two things, Molly. Tell me my favorite player is great.
01:30Tell me my team is a contender. And if you don't say those things, they hate you.
01:37But he says, hey, man, just be a straight shooter.
01:42And even people who don't like me or disagree with me, at least they say, hey, you know what?
01:46I don't like you or I don't agree with you, but I know you're not just saying stuff to get clicks.
01:51And I truly mean that, because I think television is so powerful.
01:56People believe what you say, so you have to be honest.
02:00And we got a bunch of guys in our business who are full of shit, who just do clickbait, trying to get follows and things like that.
02:07And it really drives me crazy, because I would never want to disappoint the public while I just did something for money.
02:16I would never do that, because I think it's just too powerful being on television.
02:21Because I always say this, there's somebody in Maine, North Dakota, South Dakota, Montana, they might be watching me.
02:33And what I say about a player, they're going to believe it most of the time.
02:40And I would never want to say something just because I was trying to get people to watch my TV show, watch my radio show, or come at me online.
02:49So I take it very serious.
02:51Like I say, that does not mean I'm right or perfect all the time.
02:55But I want to try to be as honest as possible.
