00:01Previously on Project Runway...
00:03For this challenge, the inspiration for your design will come from one of the four natural elements.
00:08Earth, air, fire, or water.
00:11Full speed ahead.
00:12It'll be a little bit 80s, a little Blade Runner.
00:14I identify with pale people.
00:16I'm worried about your work in particular.
00:19Ben's trousers are just awful.
00:22I couldn't even start over if I wanted to.
00:27It looks like a cat in a baby sling.
00:29This is a perfectly beautiful dress.
00:32Come on, Ben.
00:33A jockstrap pant?
00:34It's wacky.
00:35It's bizarre.
00:37Jonathan, you are the winner of this challenge.
00:41I'm sorry, Ben, that means you're out.
00:42Oh, no.
00:44Anthony, which model will be in?
00:47I'm gonna have to take a chance on Monique.
00:49I'm sorry, Alison, that means you're out.
00:52This is Project Runway.
00:54Yes!
00:55I am fashion.
00:56Look at me.
00:57It's cut or be cut.
00:59Just make it work.
01:00Great clothes.
01:01Great style.
01:02Three finalists will make it to Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week.
01:05They won't do anything to win.
01:07I will.
01:08But only one can be the winner.
01:10My weapon of choice.
01:12For these 16 designers, Project Runway is the chance of a lifetime.
01:17The winner of Project Runway will receive a fashion spread in Marie Claire magazine.
01:21An opportunity to sell their line on bluefly.com.
01:23A $50,000 technology suite to create, design and run their business from HP and Intel.
01:29And $100,000 from L'Oreal Paris to launch their line.
01:33I was in the bottom three and it definitely means that I have to step it up for this next challenge and prove myself again.
01:46I feel like I've kind of lost myself a little bit.
01:48I'm ready to redeem myself today.
01:51Do something, kick ass again.
01:53I'm ready to win.
01:56I'm a little jealous that I haven't won a challenge yet.
01:59And it is at the point now where everybody's won a challenge except for me.
02:03Yeah, it's frustrating for sure.
02:05It's down to only eight of you.
02:14Half of you are gone.
02:17For your next challenge, we want you to get into a New York state of mind.
02:22Tim will meet you in the designer's lounge to fill you in on all of the details.
02:26Good luck and I'll see you on the runway.
02:29Bye.
02:30Bye.
02:31I'm not exactly sure what that hint means.
02:34So I'm going to wait till I have all of the details of this particular challenge before I go trying to fill up my mind with unnecessary thoughts.
02:42Designers, it is my pleasure to introduce you to Collier Strong, consulting makeup artist for L'Oreal Paris.
02:48Designers, for this challenge, you will be using New York City as the point of departure for your design.
02:54Yes.
02:55Yes.
02:56And we're sending you out into the city.
02:59Nice.
03:00You will be going to one of four very distinctive neighborhoods.
03:04And these neighborhoods have been selected because of their history, their cultural significance, and frankly, for their impact on fashion.
03:10And they are Chinatown, the East Village, the Upper East Side, and Harlem.
03:17Woo-hoo!
03:18I feel that I have to win this challenge because I am from New York, and if I don't win this one, it would be a real disappointment for me and for my people.
03:26And I have more exciting news.
03:28You will be working in teams of two.
03:34Please, God Almighty, don't let me be stuck with Mila.
03:36Please.
03:37Please.
03:38I'm not a huge fan of teams.
03:40You never know who you're going to get.
03:42Each team will create two looks.
03:45A look for day and a look for evening.
03:47And each team will have a budget of $300.
03:50And I will determine the team leaders by selecting your names from our velvet bag.
03:55Oh.
03:56Anthony.
03:57Ha-ha-ha.
03:58Amy.
04:01Emilio.
04:02Oh, good.
04:03Jay.
04:04Being the last leader to get picked, I know that I'm going to get stuck with whoever's not going to get picked.
04:10And I'm scared to death.
04:12So, Anthony, you're first.
04:14Maya.
04:17Amy.
04:18I choose Jonathan.
04:20Yay!
04:21I really wanted to work with her, and I was hoping she wanted to work with me.
04:25Emilio.
04:26I'm going to choose Beth.
04:28Hey!
04:29Hey!
04:30The whole team dynamic is about strategizing.
04:33Jay and Mila don't get along, so it's a win-win situation.
04:38I can't breathe.
04:39My heart's pounding.
04:41Oh.
04:43So, Jay, you're working with Mila.
04:45Wow.
04:46Great.
04:47The guy that I never talked to and the guy that I don't really like, he and I have to work together now.
04:54My God, I'm stuck with Mila.
04:56All right, now in reverse order, you're going to choose one of the four neighborhoods.
05:00We've decided the East Village.
05:01The East Village?
05:02Yes.
05:03So Emilio and Seth Aaron.
05:04We choose Harlem.
05:05Harlem?
05:06It's a no-brainer.
05:07And I spent a lot of time in Harlem.
05:09So, Amy, you and Jonathan have Chinatown or the Upper East Side?
05:13Upper East Side.
05:14That means that Anthony and Maya have Chinatown.
05:17Collier.
05:18I'm here to help you create makeup looks that fully complement and expand on your designs.
05:22We'll be using L'Oreal's new Studio Secret Professional line that enables all women to get professional results at home.
05:28I'm sending you off to your neighborhoods where you will have 30 minutes to explore and sketch, and then I will meet you at Mood.
05:35And later today, you'll have a consultation with Collier.
05:38So, run off to your neighborhoods.
05:40Woo!
05:46I'm just happy to be back in my own neighborhood.
05:48The smells, the people, the color.
05:51I'm home.
05:52Harlem is about churches, liquor stores, and fried chicken spots.
05:57Well, I'll do the liquor store and fried chicken.
05:59Our styles are completely different.
06:01This could be a complete disaster.
06:04Or, our two styles could totally just weave together and make something fantastic.
06:09Look at Grandma.
06:10Look at Grandma.
06:11Look at Grandma.
06:12Turn around.
06:13You see?
06:14Here.
06:15See, that's hot.
06:16That's hot.
06:17She is hot.
06:18Look at her shoes.
06:19Look at her shoes.
06:20You look great.
06:21She's probably like 70 years old and look.
06:22She's hot.
06:23Tight denim jeans.
06:24You see, when you go to Harlem, it's that 99.5 of the people are wearing denim.
06:28Look at the denim.
06:29Look at what it is.
06:30The denim's here.
06:31That's where it's at.
06:32This is Harlem.
06:33We should do this for the day and for night.
06:36All that kind of mosaic.
06:38What if we got the pants doing this?
06:40You know, in the color palette we choose, but this effect.
06:43That effect.
06:44Sounds good?
06:45Yeah, I think.
06:46All right.
06:47Well, welcome to Harlem, baby.
06:53When I think of Chinatown, I really think of structure.
06:56Me too.
06:57And like the buildings, there's a lot of red, certainly.
07:00Red, okay.
07:01Walking around in Chinatown, there are so many people just moving.
07:05Jesus.
07:06And the streets are really, really narrow.
07:09Everything's very colorful.
07:11I'm really glad that Anthony chose me as a partner.
07:14We're having fun.
07:15He's making me laugh, and he's bringing the silly into it.
07:18Sometimes I need a little dose of that.
07:20Are those pigs in that window?
07:22What is that?
07:23That's stuck.
07:24Ew.
07:25Ew.
07:26What about these ladders here as a detail for a daytime, like on a jacket?
07:31I think this window alone is just a great source of inspiration.
07:34And even if we did something like this with gold on the inside of them, you know?
07:39The perfect that's coming up for me right now.
07:44On the Upper East Side, there is a feeling of high-end or luxury.
07:48The architecture is all very, like, stark and gray.
07:52First thing Amy and I notice is how static of a place it is.
07:56There's almost no movement.
07:58Ah!
08:00Houston, we have a problem.
08:02For style in Upper East Side, might be a little bit of a clash.
08:06See, I feel like it's important to stay true to what type of people are here.
08:11What goes on here?
08:12We thought that a shirt dress is something that someone in Upper East Side might wear on a casual day.
08:17I actually really love this, too.
08:19The brick?
08:20Just the texture of that.
08:21Yeah.
08:22Is this a very Upper East Side thing?
08:24Yes.
08:25It is.
08:26And for the evening look, we really wanted to use Jonathan's cutaway technique to represent the wrought iron that we saw on the doors and the gates.
08:33Let's get fabrics that are easy to do techniques on, and then we'll work out what the actual technique is.
08:38Okay.
08:41I'm really feeling the graffiti, are you?
08:43I love the texture.
08:44I just have to get over the fact that I don't like her. This challenge is to really test me as a leader to Mila.
08:51I want to do a woman who lives in this neighborhood. She's modern, but appreciates, like, things from the past.
08:56I love the East Village. I understand the East Village. The East Village is kind of rock and roll.
09:01It's kind of gritty here, you know what I mean?
09:03Yeah.
09:04When Jay and I were walking around, we tended to gravitate towards graffiti and industrial textures.
09:10I want to do a look with a jacket and a look with, like, a hot pair of, like, super elaborate pants.
09:15I feel like Jay is a little bit scattered.
09:18I want to use lines to create texture. I want to do a short, like, a jumper.
09:23I guess I'm having a hard time visualizing what goes on top.
09:26I'm just hoping that we can just get through it.
09:33All right, designers, each team will design two looks. So your 30 minutes starts right now.
09:38Just, okay, still.
09:40These belong. This gets weird.
09:42Amy and I are a little stumped by fabric shopping at Moon.
09:45There's two of us, which means that we kind of both have to approve on the fabrics.
09:49It sort of, in a way, cuts your time in half.
09:51Let's go darker.
09:52Same center.
09:53It should be indigo.
09:54We decide that he is going to do the denim day look.
09:56So, of course, the first swatch of denim he has is black.
10:00That's blue?
10:01So I make him change that.
10:03That's blue.
10:04How do you feel about that?
10:05I'm good with this.
10:06It is beautiful.
10:07Hearing the word China, you think of red and gold.
10:10However, I think that the greater challenge for us is to look a little deeper and not just be so literal.
10:16I'm a little concerned about Anthony's textile choices just because he's had some trouble in the past.
10:21We just need to be careful about how we use it because it could be really cheesy.
10:24All right, everyone. Time is up. That's it.
10:28Thank you, Mood.
10:37Wow. It's palpable that it's a much smaller group in here.
10:40You have until midnight tonight and precious little time tomorrow for this challenge.
10:45And we have only the creme de la creme here.
10:48Make no assumptions that the team leader will go home.
10:51Thank you very much.
10:52Three of them.
10:53I'm going to kind of slash and spread this.
10:57Maybe spread it to like maybe five inches.
11:00Jay is taking charge of the day look.
11:02These pants are definitely not something I would design, but I can't really say anything because he's the leader.
11:08He makes the final decisions.
11:09Maybe I can do something like let this come out.
11:11Oh, yeah, yeah.
11:12Make it more like evening evening.
11:13For the evening look, I'm going to do a throwback to the classic Harlem Billie Holiday, the Cotton Club, that kind of vibe.
11:21Dude, I got to do it.
11:23The main thing that I want to achieve as a designer is to be very current.
11:28You got to stop saying I and say we because we have to because it can't be about one person.
11:33I am the leader.
11:34I think that in this particular case, though, Maya has already admitted that she has control issues.
11:40I'm, you know, I'm a subtle, I have a subtle controlling aspect of my personality.
11:45I cannot afford to be scared of anything at this point.
11:48I'm starting to think that this print is like not good.
11:54Basically, it would be pleated here, sunburst, cut out.
11:57It would be pleated here, sunburst, cut out.
12:00My dress has a lot of detail. Amy's dress has a lot of detail.
12:03We're just going to dive right in.
12:07I have about a million pleats to make by hand.
12:10Let's just make this idea as complicated as possible.
12:15It's going to be a struggle.
12:16Oh, shoot.
12:17We're going to be creating two looks, a day look and an evening look based on one of four neighborhoods.
12:32Ooh, it's like a Chinese dragon.
12:35Maya is working on the day look and I am working on the evening look.
12:39I was thinking like bigger, like this big.
12:42In the evening look, we will be creating this three-dimensional diamond inspired by the dragon tissue lantern.
12:50I think that they should just sort of trail off.
12:53She can't seem to focus enough on her own garment.
12:56Once we have all of these, we can be artsy and have some artistic license about where to place them.
13:02She's even gone as far to make a comment that I'm just concerned about these looks because I'm such an artist.
13:08But it's kind of like at this point, everybody on this show is an artist.
13:13If I like just hand wrote some, I think we got enough going on.
13:17Yeah, we should just stick to the details.
13:19Seth Aaron works really, really fast.
13:22He doesn't sketch a lot, so I have to keep a critical eye on what he brings in.
13:27A little of this, like with this, you know?
13:31Yeah.
13:32I don't know about the solid yellow though.
13:33If you turn your head for a minute, he would have added stuff that you kind of didn't discuss.
13:38So we just have to find a happy medium.
13:42We don't really say a whole lot to one another.
13:45We're just sort of in the zone.
13:46I mean, that's pretty normal actually for both of us.
13:48We're working very professionally.
13:50I just want to put on a really good show and forget about the fact that she doesn't like me or I don't like her.
13:56Yeah.
13:57You're like, looking good, little nugget.
13:59We are both detail people.
14:01We are both texture people, volume people.
14:04Those things take time to do.
14:06And I think that by combining those two volcanic forces,
14:10you basically end up with two people who probably cannot complete these looks in time.
14:17Designers, I have Collier Strong with me.
14:19And he's here for your makeup consultation.
14:22Hello, hello.
14:23Hey, how are you?
14:25She's my evening girl.
14:26Okay, what part of the city were you doing?
14:28Chinatown.
14:29Okay, so let's shop here at the Studio Secrets wall.
14:31You have primer.
14:32These are some colored golds.
14:33Yes, and I want black on the last one.
14:35Okay.
14:36Use a black liner and then we'll use a dark brown.
14:38Oh, that's beautiful.
14:40So I think that her lip could be bold.
14:42And I think with the color choices that we're using here, it will easily blend with the nighttime version.
14:49I like it.
14:50And we're doing Harlem.
14:52She's going to be wearing our evening look.
14:53Okay, the evening look.
14:54And she's going to be wearing this midnight blue.
14:56What about a smoky sensuality?
14:59Yeah.
15:00So that it just kind of brings the eyelid to life.
15:02Yeah, that's beautiful.
15:03Good.
15:04My lady's going to be wearing our Harlem day look.
15:07Okay.
15:08So a little eyeliner, just a little smudge right at the base of the lash to add density.
15:12Also, something bright but transparent on the lip.
15:16Perfection.
15:20I'm here to check in with you.
15:21Hi, Tim.
15:22How did you gentlemen like Harlem?
15:23I loved it.
15:24I lived there for a while.
15:25I'm a New Yorker.
15:26And I had never been there.
15:27It's the first time there.
15:28It's colorful.
15:29And a lot of denim.
15:30And we incorporated it into a denim two-piece look for our day look.
15:34I'm crazy about this jacket.
15:35The evening look is going to be a modern day Billie Holiday.
15:39We'll just keep the urban edge going.
15:40Yeah, it's definitely an urban edge.
15:41You two are busy.
15:42All these souvenir shops in Chinatown had all these paper dragons.
15:47And we made this thing, I don't even know what you'd call it, on the evening look.
15:52I'm working on the day look, so the jacket is going to be for Lorena.
15:56What's the textile?
15:57It's this.
15:58This looks so weak.
16:02Yeah.
16:03Compared to the rest of your palette.
16:06Why did you reject the stripe?
16:07I'm just going to ask perfectly bluntly, why couldn't that be the jacket?
16:10It could.
16:11So how are you two doing?
16:12Moving along.
16:13Good.
16:14Yeah.
16:15So what are the pieces you're making for today?
16:18I'm working on a pair of pants.
16:20So you'll see like a form fitting and it'll kind of like poof out here.
16:24Is it possible that Heidi and Nina are going to say what woman wants to look wider there?
16:29It's going to hit her at the right spot.
16:31You're not going to see much fullness from here up.
16:33And what's on top?
16:34We were going to do some kind of like a striped top using black and red.
16:39And Mila, what are you doing?
16:40I'm doing this jacket and then we're doing a dress underneath out of this groovy fabric.
16:45What is the general silhouette of the dress like and what's the neckline like?
16:49We're still debating that.
16:50We're still talking at this point.
16:51Someone's going home.
16:52Don't look at me.
16:53I can look at any of you.
16:55All right.
16:57Thanks, Tim.
16:58Amy.
16:59Jonathan.
17:00Hi, Tim.
17:01For our day wear, we're doing a kind of spin off of a shirt dress.
17:05And Jonathan's working on the wrought iron influence for the evening look.
17:09Yeah.
17:10This dress will actually have panels of my cut work as well as the arcing pleating panels.
17:15Are you at risk of over designing?
17:21I'm like, we know that probably.
17:23It's not a matter of how much work did you get done in what amount of time.
17:27It's how good is the look.
17:29Designers, I'm going to leave you for the evening.
17:32And your models will be coming in a little later for fitting.
17:35All right.
17:36Work hard.
17:37Make it work.
17:40Is it overly designed?
17:41Us?
17:43When?
17:44When Tim said the word over designed, I was like, oh my God.
17:47I mean, I'm literally at this point using every technique I know how to do on this one garment.
17:52He's right.
17:53This could be a carnival.
17:55Wonder if we have enough solid fiber.
17:57My goal is to have the pants done next and then the hat.
18:01So I'm the one that's behind.
18:03I got to get this together to try on her.
18:05Oh, that's right.
18:06They're coming soon.
18:07The problem that Anthony is running into is that the details on the evening dress are all completely hand stitched.
18:12And there are a million diamond shaped designs that have to be tacked on.
18:20Hi.
18:21How are they going?
18:22My God, I'm so nervous now.
18:24I want to finish this.
18:26You always finish.
18:28But I have a partner.
18:30I've been praying not to have teams.
18:32It's ridiculous.
18:33You have to pretend you're nice to each other.
18:36It was so funny.
18:37I saw their friends.
18:38He'll be right in.
18:39He's just putting the last semi.
18:40I've never put a dress together this freaking fast in my life.
18:44I'm not even ready.
18:45This is the first time ever.
18:47Wow, they actually fit really good.
18:50The pants that I made for Brittany fit her well.
18:53The poof on the side doesn't look as bad as Tim had anticipated.
18:57So I'm really excited.
18:58I can't wait to finish these pants.
19:00So the hem is shorter in the back than it is in the front.
19:04Step.
19:06Oh, is it that part?
19:07I cut it like it had the stretch and I cut it the wrong way.
19:10The jacket goes on.
19:11She gets right to that point and it stops.
19:13And I'm all like, well, that's the point.
19:15It needs to be cut.
19:18I was like, what?
19:19So I pull it off her and I just cut them off.
19:22She freaks out.
19:23Yeah, I see because I want it to hit here.
19:26It's done.
19:27Done.
19:28Put it on her.
19:29Fits perfectly.
19:30Cuffs on.
19:31We're good.
19:32Bye.
19:33Bye.
19:34I'm a little nervous about the time, I have to say.
19:37Out of the corner of my eye, I see that Jay hasn't even started a tank top yet.
19:41I'm just worried that we would end up in the bottom if Jay's look isn't complete.
19:46Jay and Mila?
19:47I don't mean to laugh.
19:51It's not professional.
19:52Mila and Jay as a team, first of all, was set up by Emilio because he's naughty, naughty,
20:01naughty boy.
20:02I really am a nice guy, really.
20:04If you really get to know me.
20:06But let's just say, it's working as planned.
20:10Is it hot in here or am I just not going to finish?
20:13Yeah, this is the first time I've seen Jonathan struggle with time.
20:17So I am a little concerned because, you know, we were hoping for one of us to finish earlier
20:21and possibly help the other one.
20:22I don't think that's going to happen at this point.
20:24I am cutting this open work cut work until my fingers are bleeding.
20:28It's getting sloppier by the minutes.
20:30I'm just trying to get it done.
20:32It's spiraling out of control at this point.
20:34Did you say one minute?
20:35My watch says five minutes.
20:37That's wrong.
20:38That time up there's wrong.
20:39We're .
20:54Oh, Jonathan, how do you feel this morning?
20:56Disgusting.
20:57I honestly don't know if I can physically so fast enough to do all the things that I need
21:03to do.
21:04I am hurting this morning.
21:06Oh, my God.
21:07I don't know how I'm going to get it done, honestly.
21:09Yeah.
21:10Down to the nitty gritty here.
21:17We shall leave as three and return as three.
21:31I'm so nervous about the runway show because I'm feeling right now like there's no way that
21:36I can get this done.
21:38I'm going to do triangles here.
21:41We have a lot to do and I'm not sure if it's going to get done.
21:45Are you serious?
21:46Yeah.
21:47I know you sort of want to stay away from asymmetrical designs, but...
21:50Right.
21:51This is when your control issues are probably about to come back and bite.
21:54I'm a little worried about the look being mostly black.
21:57Chinatown is so colorful, but we didn't want to go too literal with it.
22:02Good morning, designers.
22:03Good morning.
22:04Good morning.
22:05Each design team will have an hour to send their models to the Garnier Hair Salon and
22:09the L'Oreal Paris makeup room.
22:11You know the drill on the blue fly wall.
22:13Style these looks so that they are each wow moments.
22:18All right.
22:20Make it work.
22:21I love it.
22:26The daytime looks a little evening.
22:29I'm very concerned about making sure that that comes across as sophisticated and not old
22:35grandmamma.
22:36Cool, eh?
22:38I feel like my outfit is looking great, but I can't believe how ill-fitting this tank top
22:44is that Jay made and I just know that it's not going to be good on the runway.
22:54What the hell is Amy and Jonathan building in that corner?
22:59And I don't think they're going to have the time to finish this.
23:01So, I think that's going to be a little bit of bloodshed there.
23:05So, you have the Martin Bay Billy Holiday.
23:11Billy Holiday.
23:12Billy Holiday.
23:13And then the yellow with the sheer.
23:14I do.
23:15Cool.
23:17Wrap it like two pieces and wrap it around kind of like chopsticks.
23:20You know what I mean?
23:21Kind of a devilment hair up to...
23:24Definitely.
23:25Yeah.
23:38You know, I really don't want to have to place blame.
23:41But when the judges ask who did what, I'm going to make sure that they know what I've done.
23:47I'm a little bit worried that Mila's going to throw me under the bus.
23:50Then I'm going to have to defend myself.
23:52Designers and models.
23:54This is it.
23:55Please follow me.
23:56We're going down the runway.
23:58All right.
23:59Sit there.
24:00You have a thread.
24:01Left.
24:02Oh.
24:03Oh, we'll get it.
24:04We'll get it.
24:05I got it.
24:06I got it.
24:07I'm on my hands and knees sewing Holly into her dress.
24:11Amy's trimming things.
24:12It's unbelievable.
24:13Jonathan, Amy.
24:15This is the most horrifying experience of my life.
24:22Welcome to the runway.
24:27As you know, in fashion one day you're in and the next day you're out.
24:32There are eight of you here and after tonight there will be seven.
24:35For this challenge you worked in teams.
24:38We sent you out into the streets of New York City to find inspiration in one of four very
24:44different neighborhoods.
24:45Okay, let's meet the judges.
24:47First, sitting in for Michael Kors, we have Francisco Costa, women's creative director
24:53for Calvin Klein Collection.
24:55Fashion director for Marie Claire Magazine, Nina Garcia.
24:59Fashionable model and actress, Molly Sims.
25:02We will score your designs as they come down the runway.
25:07One of you will be named the winner and one of you will be out.
25:14Let's start the show.
25:22I'm excited about the day look.
25:25I really feel confident in it.
25:27I think it's different and I think it's unique and it'll stand out.
25:31For a team challenge I think we did great.
25:37I've never seen any detailing like that on a dress.
25:41So the fact that we have come up with this new approach was very interesting and I thought
25:46that it was a very avant-garde approach to the evening look.
25:50The pants are amazing on her.
25:56They just look so great.
25:57I'm so proud of myself.
25:58The top is a little problematic.
26:00That's the only part I'm worried about.
26:02But it looks good on the runway, so I think we'll be okay.
26:05I'm very happy with the boldness and the statement that it makes.
26:17She's working it.
26:18She's giving a little edge to her walk and I think it looks great.
26:22I think that there are definitely aspects in there that are specific to my aesthetic.
26:31The pleating, the gradating color are very me.
26:35Both the garments are very cohesive in color story and I think that's a really strong point.
26:40Seeing my evening look on the runway, I feel a lot better.
26:51I feel like we were better at bringing the evening look to a good place and I feel like
26:57we kind of took a really unique spin on the Upper East Side.
27:01In all my design work, one of my key elements is I want to make the wow factor.
27:10I want people to remember it two weeks from now, two months from now.
27:14It's just everything that I want it to be and Valeria definitely knows how to make it look its best.
27:26She's just gliding.
27:27It just looks amazing, sophisticated, smart, beautifully made.
27:33Our outfits surpassed our vision.
27:37I think we just have a home run.
27:38We hit it out the park on this one.
27:42If I call your name, please step forward.
27:45Jay and Leela.
27:47Amy and Jonathan.
27:49Your teams have the lowest scores.
27:51We're going to talk to the teams with the highest scores first
27:54and then I'm going to bring you back so you can leave the runway.
28:03Anthony, Maya, Emilio, Seth Aaron, let's bring out your models.
28:12Emilio, you were the team leader.
28:15Well, our experience was Harlem.
28:16And for our day look, we wanted to do a denim look and we accented it with the gold stitching.
28:23And for our evening look, we wanted then to represent the classic old school Harlem of modern day Billie Holiday.
28:33I have to say I'm in love with both pieces.
28:35Thank you. Thank you.
28:36And I love all the details.
28:37It looks impeccable and they also relate.
28:40Initially, I had a little question because I thought the gown perhaps would go a little sexier and shorter.
28:47But it really held up together really well because it's rather sophisticated, both outfits.
28:52And if you want to be sexier, you just unzip that zipper a little higher.
28:56Right.
28:57You can make it shorter and shorter.
28:58No, absolutely.
28:59And who did what in terms of the...
29:00I did this and I did this.
29:03Since we wanted to do a denim look, I know Seth Aaron is so strong in that area.
29:08What I brought to the table was...
29:10Color.
29:11Color new for him.
29:12So I wanted to make sure that he was able to work in his element, but I wanted to bring in a little of my touch, which is color.
29:19I thought it was very smart of you, Emilio, to make her wear a print, bring this yellow in.
29:25I think sometimes, Seth, you go a little overboard with the detailing.
29:31You know, there's a lot of piping on this, there's the collar, there's the buttons, there's the tails.
29:37Had you taken some of those elements off, this would have been a more tasteful look.
29:43Okay.
29:44I loved it.
29:45I loved a bit of color.
29:46I love the hardware.
29:47I love a great zipper.
29:48I love the gold.
29:49Having something also a little off, like the one earring with the hat, it's good.
29:53She's our fly girl from Harlem.
29:55So how was it working together?
29:59We had fun.
30:00It was...
30:01I love stuff, Aaron.
30:02We just meshed.
30:04Anthony, you were the team leader.
30:06Tell us about your two looks.
30:08We were allowed to travel to Chinatown, which I had never gone, never been there before in my life.
30:14So initially I got sidetracked by the ducks hanging in the window.
30:18However, one of the first inspirations that...
30:22We don't do that in Georgia, but...
30:25One of the initial inspirations was this tissue lantern, and they were dragons.
30:31And that's what inspired this dress, the evening look.
30:34And as far as the daytime look is concerned, the one thing that we really collaborated on and celebrated together was like the lines and the structure of the buildings.
30:43And the pagoda.
30:44Well, I think this was a really great collaboration.
30:49I like the fact that you did those little details in red, and then it picks up with the red of her lips.
30:55I like the subtle detail of the pagoda shape on the jacket without screaming, this is China.
31:02Here, it looks beautiful.
31:05I love the origami.
31:06I love that three-dimensional effect that it has.
31:09But I wish that I would have seen a little more color in the detail.
31:14I can see a dragon in this kind of work that you've done here.
31:18But it's more subtle.
31:20I love the day look more.
31:22I love the sleeve.
31:24The hair and the makeup is right on.
31:26I think you explore that in the best way.
31:28You made it also very urban.
31:30The work is really beautiful and it's really well made.
31:33What was it like working together?
31:35I thought like I was going to drive her crazy because she's so quiet.
31:38The one good thing about Maya, don't let that pretty face fool you.
31:41If she doesn't like something or she wants to change something, she will surely let you know.
31:45Okay, we've heard what you had to say.
31:47You can leave the runway.
31:53Okay, let's bring out the designers with the lowest scores.
31:56Amy, you were the team leader.
32:03Please tell us about your inspiration.
32:05Our neighborhood was the Upper East Side.
32:07There was a beautiful brick building that had very peachy tones and a very repetitive pattern.
32:13And that's where we drew the color palette for the day wear look and the lines of pleating.
32:18And for our evening wear look, we were inspired by the raw iron gates and doors.
32:23And Jonathan did his beautiful cut work.
32:26How is it working together?
32:27We love working together.
32:29I have a great respect for Amy's design sensibility.
32:32And she, the same way for me.
32:35Yeah.
32:36The problem that I have with this day wear look, it just doesn't look polished.
32:43I agree.
32:44I, um, the day look, that is a really hard color to wear.
32:48I didn't really get the inspiration of the Upper East Side with the day look.
32:51Perhaps if it's a white shirt, you know, and flat, and a great narrow straight leg.
32:57This, for me, is an eyesore.
32:59I think it is quite ugly, to be honest.
33:02The nighttime look, I don't find as bad as the daytime look.
33:06But it's also, it's very, very busy.
33:09Nighttime look is a little more sophisticated.
33:11You see more of a workmanship and it's more successful.
33:14I love the work in front, but I think the panels really killed it.
33:19Because all of a sudden it looks heavy and it makes it look cheap.
33:24Jay, you were the team leader.
33:26Tell us about your two designs.
33:28We have the Lower East Side as our neighborhood.
33:31We both just kind of gravitated to the boldness of the graffitis and the texture that they're on.
33:39This is the daytime look and this is the nighttime look.
33:42I love this nighttime look.
33:44I particularly like that you did the red hose and boots.
33:48It looks fantastic, styling-wise.
33:50And I can see the lines of that inspiration.
33:54But I am very disappointed with the day look.
33:56I think the top looks like a leotard.
34:00It's a tank top, but it's not even a tank top that is well made.
34:05And I also have a problem with the fit on the top.
34:07I mean, her boobs are just kind of sort of floating around in there.
34:10The pants, I get the fact that you were going for a really cool pant, but I don't think that was successful either.
34:17It's interesting because I see more of a synergy.
34:19I think the pants and the top are very much each side and there's something quite cool about it, not being perfect.
34:25But that tank is, no.
34:28It tanked.
34:29The tank tank.
34:31What was it like working together?
34:34We worked, I think, professionally.
34:37Like things just kind of like organically came together and this is what we've achieved.
34:43Okay, we've heard what you had to say.
34:46We're going to have a little chat.
34:48And then I call you back.
34:50You can leave the runway.
34:59Okay, let's talk about the designers with the lower scores.
35:02Let's talk about Amy and Jonathan.
35:04You know, I had high hopes for Amy, but she gets too caught up in the technical and doesn't see the big picture.
35:10The vibe of the Upper East Side did not come across.
35:13No.
35:14It looked very vintage.
35:15It looked Lower East Side.
35:16Yeah.
35:17In the 50s.
35:18Maybe it would have been better if it actually was a dress because it was too tight in the waist.
35:23That's what makes her look like an umbrella.
35:25The night look.
35:26Definitely better than the daytime look, but I still thought that it was a bit overworked.
35:30There's a simplicity to it.
35:32It obviously needs to be reworked.
35:34Without the panels.
35:35Yeah.
35:36Let's move on to Jay and Mila.
35:40I had a problem with the day look.
35:43It was a tank, and it looked ill-fitting, badly made.
35:48The pant was overworked.
35:50I was really surprised to see this from Jay.
35:53It almost seems as if Mila was the team leader instead of Jay.
35:59You know, Mila is all about structure, lines.
36:03She loves black and white.
36:04The executioner was impeccable.
36:09Okay, let's move on to the designers with the highest scores.
36:13Should we start with Anthony and Maya?
36:15This was a very subtle and gentle inspiration on China.
36:19Subtle, but with a lot of great design in it.
36:21Great design.
36:22Not boring.
36:23I could see their vision.
36:24Yes.
36:25Both looks are definitely sophisticated.
36:27The daytime is also sophisticated.
36:29The daytime, I would wear the jacket.
36:31Yes, I love the little touch of red.
36:33The little detail of the pagoda shape on the jacket.
36:37The sleeve was great.
36:38It was great.
36:39It was really well thought of.
36:41Really very nice and very subtle.
36:47Let's move on to Emilio and Seth Aaron.
36:50Great pieces.
36:51It has a great attitude.
36:53It's got a great vibe.
36:54I love the injection of color.
36:56The injection of print.
36:57The bag.
36:58Everything worked.
36:59But they really tried to make it work together as a team.
37:03And there's these zippers you just get.
37:05It's one story.
37:06It's very mature, I find.
37:08I think they're very sophisticated.
37:10And I think they really balanced each other here.
37:14Yeah, no, they did.
37:15In the best way.
37:16They seem very strong individuals, but they worked very well together.
37:19You know, the evening dress was really...
37:21I...
37:22That's what disappointed me.
37:23Yes, it was well made, but I...
37:24I know that Emilio can do more.
37:27I know it.
37:31Are we confident that we made the right decision?
37:33Yes.
37:34Okay, let's bring them back up.
37:37The eight of you represent the best and the worst.
37:44One of you will be named the winner.
37:47And one of you will be out.
37:50Emilio.
37:51Congratulations.
37:52You are the winner of this challenge.
37:53Seth Aaron.
37:54You are also the winner of this challenge.
37:55Yay!
37:56I'm not happy.
37:57No, I'm just kidding.
37:58We appreciate the maturity of design and the way you translated your inspirations.
38:05It was clear also that you worked well together to show off both of your talents.
38:22You're both in and can leave the runway.
38:24Wow.
38:25Thank you so much.
38:26A double win.
38:30It was a Project Runway first time, so not only did we both get a win under our belt,
38:37but we also made a little Project Runway history.
38:40Woo!
38:41I'm happy.
38:42There's more designing to be done.
38:44A double win.
38:48Anthony and Maya, well done.
38:50You're in.
38:51You can leave the runway.
38:58Mila.
39:00Jonathan.
39:01You're in.
39:02You can leave the runway.
39:09Jay.
39:10Your tank top was ill-fitting and mismatched with those pants, which were also questionable
39:15in terms of color, construction, and fabric choice.
39:19Amy, your strange shirt dress was a disappointment.
39:24From the color to the dowdy cut, it was bad retro.
39:28You got lost in a concept without executing it well.
39:33Amy.
39:39You're out.
39:40That means, Jay, you're in.
39:41You can leave the runway.
39:43Thank you for the opportunity.
39:47I'm absolutely proud of myself for how far I've come.
40:03May I wish I could jam-pack all of my life with these kinds of experiences and this kind
40:08of quick growth.
40:10Such a good place.
40:11Oh, I'm gonna miss you.
40:13Hey, lady.
40:15It's really hard to watch Amy go home.
40:17The only thing that's saving me from being completely overwrought by this is that she's
40:22so strong.
40:23She's just a wonderful person.
40:24You are an incredibly talented designer.
40:25Thank you, Tim.
40:26All right.
40:27We love you.
40:28Okay.
40:29Bye, you guys.
40:30Bye.
40:31Bye.
40:32So, Emilio, Seth Aaron, congratulations to you.
40:34As a designer, I really like to try new things and I don't want to change my perspective because
40:47somebody, you know, doesn't like something.
40:49I want to stay true to myself.
40:50I wasn't ever scared to make something even though I knew it was a huge risk and I'm proud
40:55of that quality.
41:20The knowledge that we're for.
41:21Yeah.
41:22We go to Los Angeles.
41:23We just found something and how they wanted to change.
41:24Yeah.
41:25We all know.
41:26We have a cz Loop ā Jay.
41:27That's it.
41:28We're fine.
41:29We're informaƧƵes.
41:30We've worked.
41:31All right.
41:32We have conversations with Nick Ć wahrscheinlich.
41:33We have to pakettiā¦
41:35lazım.
41:36com.
41:37ģļæ½ kalk Gilbert.
41:38How are you?
41:39As soon as in game.
41:43One day we've used to bring food.
41:44Doing time.
41:45On game for adoption.
