00:01Previously on Project Runway...
00:04Your next challenge is to create a kid's look.
00:07I am scared of children.
00:12Do y'all have an off switch?
00:13I have a nice surprise for you.
00:15A corresponding look for your model.
00:23Seth Aaron, both of your looks were fantastic.
00:26You are the winner of this challenge.
00:29The whole combination is awful.
00:31It looks like a cheap mall outfit.
00:33I'm sorry, Janine, that means you're out.
00:38Jay, Megan and Brittany are left on the runway.
00:41You choose which one of them will be in,
00:43and which one will be out.
00:45I chose Brittany.
00:47I'm sorry, Megan, that means you're out.
00:50This is Project Runway.
00:51Yes!
00:52I am fashion. Look at me.
00:54It's cut or be cut.
00:55Just make it work.
00:57Great clothes.
00:58Great style.
00:59Three finalists will make it to Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week.
01:02Well, it won't do anything to win.
01:03I will.
01:04But only one can be the winner.
01:07My weapon of choice.
01:08For these 16 designers,
01:10Project Runway is the chance of a lifetime.
01:13The winner of Project Runway will receive a fashion spread in Marie-Claire magazine.
01:17An opportunity to sell their line on bluefly.com.
01:20The $50,000 technology suite to create, design and run their business from HP and Intel.
01:26And $100,000 from L'Oreal Paris to launch their line.
01:30Top 10 designers.
01:35Top 10 designers.
01:36There you go.
01:37Woohoo!
01:38Yes!
01:39Halfway to Bryant Park.
01:41Now it's really serious competition.
01:44Now it's when all the stops have to be pulled out.
01:48Might be a two day challenge.
01:49I'm ready for this one.
01:51Jay!
01:52Top 10!
01:55This is insane.
01:58From the very beginning, I was so nervous that I'm going to go home first.
02:03Hit the shower.
02:04You hit the shower!
02:06I just have to knock down seven more people and then top three here I come, bitches.
02:13I'm ready to move on to the next challenge.
02:16Yeah.
02:17On one hand, I feel like it's kind of a bummer that so many women have gone home.
02:21But on the other hand, it's a little bit empowering to think that Amy and Maya and I are the strongest women here.
02:28Lee is four.
02:29Return.
02:30Yes.
02:31Three!
02:32Oh, four.
02:33Grab your verse.
02:36Got it, thanks.
02:47Hello.
02:48Hi.
02:49It's time for your next challenge.
02:50Yes.
02:51There are only ten of you left, so the competition is heating up.
02:56Seth Aaron, you won the last challenge, so therefore you have immunity for this week.
03:01Cool.
03:02For your next challenge, I'm sending you on a little trip to meet Tim and one of America's favorite designers.
03:09And they will give you all of the tools you will need for the next challenge.
03:14Good luck and I'll see you on the runway.
03:16Bye.
03:17Bye, Heidi.
03:18Heidi.
03:19So Heidi says we're going to meet America's favorite designer.
03:26Tim and that designer are going to give us the tools to complete our look.
03:32Oh, Lord.
03:33What are we going to be doing now?
03:36We arrive at the Michael Kors store in Soho and it's really exciting.
03:41He's got a beautiful store.
03:42Good morning, designers.
03:43Good morning.
03:44Please say hello to a familiar face.
03:47Hi, Michael.
03:48Hey, guys.
03:49Welcome to my Soho store here in New York City.
03:52I'm very excited to talk to you guys about today's challenge.
03:55I really want to see you guys push the envelope and I want you to think a little outside of the box and think in an unconventional way.
04:02So today, for your challenge, you are going to be shopping at a hardware store.
04:12We're going to be creating a look using materials from a hardware store.
04:16And I honestly could not be more excited.
04:19I don't feel good about this.
04:20This is not what I do.
04:22I don't make crafty things.
04:24I make very sophisticated dresses.
04:27And, guys, in addition to apparel, you will be designing an accessory to complement and enhance your look.
04:34So, guys, it is so important to think about a head-to-toe look from fabulous hair and makeup down to the feet and a fabulous accessory.
04:43You know what?
04:44Get shopping.
04:45Michael, thank you so much and they won't disappoint you, will you guys?
04:48No.
04:49All right.
04:50Let's head to the hardware store.
04:51Thanks, guys.
04:52Good luck.
04:54Let's head to the hardware store.
04:55Let's head to the hardware store.
04:56Designers, welcome to Scheman and Grant Hardware, which is a very inspiring place.
05:01You have a budget of $150 each.
05:04You will have 35 minutes to shop.
05:07And your 35 minutes starts right now.
05:11This is here.
05:12I need someone.
05:13Hardware is not cheap.
05:14That really worries me as far as getting enough materials and getting the right materials to be able to make something spectacular.
05:24Do you love, like, sheets of metal?
05:26I love this challenge.
05:27I'm really excited.
05:28I have some experience working with, you know, strange objects.
05:31I've made some new dresses out of screen before.
05:35Designers, you have five minutes remaining.
05:37Not only do you have to make a garment using these supplies from the hardware store, you also have to make an accessory.
05:43Everyone has sheets of metals or things that you can buy yardage of.
05:49I went the other route.
05:50I have some washers and some cord.
05:53That's all I have.
05:54Oh, I think I'm over budget right now.
05:57I'm going to try and make a garbage bag feel like a leather material.
06:02I don't know how I'm going to accomplish that.
06:04Designers, you have one minute remaining.
06:07Ah!
06:08That's it.
06:09Scream for help.
06:10The first thing that pops into my head is sandpaper.
06:13Just because of the different textures and the different colors, I think it's going to be perfect to use for a challenge like this.
06:19All right, designers, that's it.
06:22No more shopping.
06:23Time's up.
06:26Oh, wait, no, you got two of these yourself?
06:27Yeah, two.
06:28Oh, then you don't have enough.
06:29I realize that I'm way over budget and I have to leave half of my cord and half of my washer.
06:35So I'm working with less material and I have to make it happen.
06:39It's just one of those challenges.
06:41It can go any way.
06:42All right, designers, let's head back to Parsons.
06:45Thank you, Shaymen and Gramps.
06:47All right, designers, you have until midnight tonight and precious little time tomorrow.
07:09Okay?
07:10All right.
07:11The winner of this challenge will have immunity and therefore cannot be eliminated in the next challenge.
07:16So make it work.
07:18Okay?
07:19I can't wait to see what you do.
07:21I know that a lot of the designers are going to take the easy way out, which is to make a dress.
07:33And I want to challenge myself and come up with something that is a pair of pants that'll fit well, which is probably going to be challenging.
07:42Because what can you do with a trash bag?
07:46Looking around the room, it's definitely, it's crazy.
07:49I mean, we've all got real different ideas and we're all going for them.
07:52So you kind of hope, not in a mean way, but hope somebody crashes and burns.
07:56So then you can go, all righty, I'm okay because he's screwed.
08:01I'm making a necklace and it's going to be a rather large necklace, which is going to be pretty heavy since it's made of keys.
08:08And it's going to be the focal point of the piece.
08:13The judges always talk about innovation.
08:15And at this point, I'm thinking that the innovative part of my garment will be taking something that is hard and industrial and giving it a very soft and airy feel.
08:26Who doesn't know what they're doing?
08:28Who's coolest?
08:32It's a huge pain in the ass to work with hardware.
08:34You really have to spend a lot of time getting accustomed to all these wacky new materials.
08:39Ladies and gentlemen, straight off the periodic table of elements, copper.
08:44I like Jonathan because he's just so damn funny.
08:47Everything that he says is hilarious.
08:49We have a lot of fun just laughing together and it kind of takes the stress off.
08:53I noticed that everyone else is molding bodices out of metal and to me that's been done.
09:03My plan of attack is to create a Paco Rabanne slash macrame dress using the washers and the cord.
09:11But I don't have enough washers or cords.
09:14I may not have a full dress.
09:16I see Emilio's piece and I'm thinking in the back of my head, I'm like, what the hell is he making?
09:22He's making a stripper outfit.
09:24We are making spacesuits.
09:26This is fashion, honey.
09:28And stripper costumes.
09:29And stripper costumes.
09:31He's got the macrame going on.
09:33It's definitely creative.
09:35You know what? Just shut your face up.
09:37I meant that in a good way.
09:38Whatever. It is what it is.
09:46The object of this game is to take tools from a hardware store and make something that has some wearability.
09:57It's a lot of look.
09:58There's a lot to do, yeah.
10:00I'm very frustrated today and the pressure is mounting.
10:03Everyone is just trying to work with these materials that aren't really made to create clothing with.
10:09So much for our manicures, Maya.
10:11I had no idea what I was in store for when I got the copper because, as of right now, my hands look like I've been attacked by a feral animal.
10:19Are you color blocking the pang?
10:21Color block, take me away.
10:23I'm hoping that the judges don't get sick of my black and white element.
10:27That's always been a signature for me.
10:36Should've just had her in the kind of direction.
10:41There's a lot of chaos and noise.
10:43It's just not an ideal situation for me to create my best world.
10:48Is that stuff sticky?
10:49Yeah.
10:50Because I got some sticky crap here and I'm like, oh, it's sticky.
10:54The skirt material is this mesh that when I opened it I realized it's sticky.
10:58I wanted a nice flowy skirt to counteract the really strict corseted bodice.
11:03So basically I'm screwed because this is like the largest piece of tape you've ever seen in your life.
11:09I'm making leather out of trash bags.
11:12This is a dream that I've been wanting to fulfill since I was little.
11:17I want this badly and my parents would be so proud of me if I won Project Runway.
11:23They know that this is what I want to do in life.
11:26I'm the fifth in the family.
11:27I have a younger sister and I remember when we were little that we've always fought for everything that we want in life.
11:36And to me that tells a lot about me as a person and as a competitor.
11:43I was able to sew through the copper flashing.
11:48Through the who?
11:49This.
11:50You are lying.
11:52Many of us in the room are finding a way to sew our materials.
11:56So I flipped my dress inside to sew the back seam.
12:00It went in like this and it came out like that.
12:03These materials are really starting to control me.
12:06Order five dollars for a roll of duct tape and it does not feel like it sticks to anything.
12:12The rope that I bought at the hardware store is Venetian blind cord.
12:16I'm hoping that I'll be able to sew it and I hope that it goes through the machine because if not I'm going to have to do a lot of hand stitching.
12:25Hi everybody.
12:26Hi.
12:27I feel like I'm in the arms and armor wing of the Met.
12:30Alright I'm here to check in with you.
12:32Mila.
12:33Obviously it's very mod inspired with the black and white and I'm really just using paint tray liners and gaffers tape.
12:41What's really supporting it on her?
12:43Will this sit on her hip?
12:44I might have to contour it a little bit more.
12:47What are you doing for the accessory?
12:49I'm going to do a really wide cuff.
12:52Using this as a cuff you're saying?
12:54I just like that it had text on it.
12:56Mm-hmm.
12:57Very exciting.
12:58Mila, thank you.
12:59Thank you, Tim.
13:00Jesse.
13:01Tim.
13:02So talk to me.
13:03I was thinking sort of Elizabethan sort of...
13:06Elizabethan mini?
13:08Well, I'm just...
13:10The skirt is a work in progress.
13:12So are you going to cover all this text on?
13:15I don't know...
13:16This is looking so school project, school play, not even high school or college, like elementary school.
13:24What is it with you guys and this copper?
13:30This is all hand seamed with metal wire.
13:34You'd never know.
13:35What are you doing for the accessory?
13:37I was thinking of doing a hair piece.
13:39All right.
13:40A little cap, kind of.
13:41Something that would like comb up the back of the head into the top into the crown.
13:44Sort of that Dior, old school, really odd, crazy hat kind of thing.
13:47Just watch the costume aspect of the whole thing.
13:51Thank you, Jesse.
13:52Thanks, Tim.
13:54Tim, how are you?
13:56What are you doing?
13:57I am creating intergalactic macrame flapper something.
14:04What is it? A miniskirt? Is it a bikini?
14:06A miniskirt.
14:07Miniskirt.
14:08And do you have enough of the hardware?
14:10I hope so.
14:12I don't know.
14:13You may end up with a bikini.
14:15I can't, because last time one of my dresses was too short.
14:18I have to work it out, Tim, honestly.
14:20I just...
14:21Okay.
14:22This is a doozy.
14:23Well, your innovation can be the presentation of a bottomless dress.
14:29Okay.
14:31Thank you, Tim.
14:32I knew by the color it was you.
14:34What are you doing?
14:35I think I'm probably going to just keep my structure at the top,
14:37but explore some different things at the bottom,
14:39because I'm not officially impressed with the way this has turned out so far.
14:42The fact that you can see that...
14:44Well, that's why I only did half.
14:45This looks tortured.
14:47Trying to just manipulate it through that machine,
14:49it just took a turn for horror.
14:50It's not pretty.
14:51Tim's visit confirmed what I already am trying to do anyway.
14:55I think that we're on the same page, Tim.
14:57We are on the same page.
14:58All right.
14:59And that's really just abandoning the original skirt
15:01and moving forward with something that's light and airy
15:04and where the fabric just won't look as tortured.
15:07So, Jay.
15:08Hi.
15:09We went to a hardware store to shop.
15:12How did you make a pair of leather pants?
15:14Right?
15:15This is what I came up with.
15:16What is it?
15:17Well, this, it's a garbage bag.
15:19What? It's a garbage bag?
15:20Yes.
15:21I mean, if I'd seen you with a box of garbage bags,
15:23I would have said,
15:24Jay, the pants are spectacular.
15:29How does she get in and out?
15:32There's, well, I wanted a side zipper,
15:34but I'm going to have to sew this on her.
15:35Yeah, you will.
15:36As I'm building it, it's shrinking.
15:38At this point, it's too late.
15:40I'm just hoping it'll fit her.
15:41Oh, listen.
15:42If the pant goes away because of the fit,
15:44that's a problem.
15:45Yeah, yeah.
15:46Well, what are you doing for your accessory?
15:48Maybe a belt.
15:49I think she needs a belt.
15:50But it's important.
15:51So don't let it be 11.30 and then suddenly,
15:54whoops, my accessory.
15:55Yeah.
15:56Yeah.
15:57All right, thank you, Jay.
15:58Okay, thank you.
15:59Maya.
16:00Hi.
16:01What are you doing?
16:02I'm intrigued.
16:03This is the collar.
16:04So it's going to go like this.
16:06And what's underneath it?
16:07I've done this necklace, set of keys, and screen.
16:11That necklace is stunning.
16:14This is my accessory.
16:15And I'm using screen to make a shift dress
16:19that's going to go underneath the jacket.
16:21If you can pull this off, this will be phenomenal.
16:24Cool.
16:25Yeah, I'm really excited about it.
16:26All right, I'm going to leave you.
16:27Okay.
16:28Work, work.
16:30Thank you, Maya.
16:31All right, designers.
16:32I'm going to leave you for tonight.
16:34And I have to say, you have a lot of work to do.
16:38So if there were ever a make it work moment,
16:41I think it's this challenge.
16:43I'm sending in your models.
16:45Thank you, everybody.
16:46Make it work.
16:47I'm here to have it.
16:51Wow.
16:52This is wackadoo stuff.
16:53So it's all...
16:54Interesting.
16:55Yeah, it's just this.
16:56My design concept is Veronica Lake meets C-3PO.
17:00And the accessory is going to be a clutch.
17:03I wish I had more time to devote to this accessory
17:06that could be the make or break point for this runway show.
17:09Can they not fit?
17:11Oh, my God.
17:12This is freaking me out.
17:14She can't even put her feet through the pants at this point,
17:16and I'm just livid and freaking out.
17:19I can't believe my shrunk.
17:21I was sewing it.
17:22I'm so annoyed.
17:23I feel like it'll be okay.
17:25You know what I think the look we should go for?
17:28Valley of the Dolls, 2009.
17:31Holly walks in.
17:32I don't have anything to even try on her.
17:34And I'm trying to cover a six-foot-tall blonde Amazon woman.
17:39I thought I got enough washers that it would work,
17:43but it's not working.
17:45So we're making a bathing suit.
17:47I am losing it.
17:48If you need me to Crisco, I will.
17:50I'm thinking I'm not going to finish.
17:55How about you?
17:56I'm going to have to move out of New York.
17:59After the hardware incident, Emilio Sosa had disappeared.
18:05I cut two inches straps of the material that I have
18:11and put them on both sides of the pant,
18:13and I just hope that it's going to fit her
18:15when she comes back tomorrow and tries the pants again.
18:18As far as accessories,
18:19I want to come up with a really sexy belt
18:22that's going to singe Brittany in around the waist.
18:24Time to cut more squares.
18:26Ben and Jonathan both picked up the copper flashing
18:28that I picked up,
18:29and I've decided that I do have paint,
18:31so I'm definitely going to use it to transform what I've made
18:34into something that's even more than just copper flashing.
18:36But there's something that's going to be more than just
18:39copper flashing,
18:40but there's something that's going to be more than just
18:43flashing, but there's nothing I can do at this point.
18:46Time's been spent, and it is what it is,
18:48because at this point there's no chance to redesign.
19:02You've got five minutes.
19:04It's the morning of the show,
19:05and I just can't wait for this show
19:07because it's so out of the ordinary.
19:11I'm ready for this challenge to be over.
19:13I just can't wait to use fabric again.
19:15I know.
19:16My fingers are like raw.
19:18This is a runway first.
19:20Everyone is in the bottom ten.
19:22It would be funnier if it wasn't true.
19:24I feel comfort in the fact that we're all
19:26in a bit of a cray cray sort of out there direction.
19:30There's a safety in numbers with that.
19:32You ten have the lowest scores.
19:34Oh my god.
19:35It's really hard to be excited this morning
19:38at the runway show because so many variables
19:42go into this kind of challenge.
19:45The dress could fall apart at any second.
19:47You're making your bed today.
19:49Oh my god.
19:50Yes.
19:51I grew up into an adult overnight.
19:53Amazing.
19:54All right.
19:56Bloody fingers crossed.
19:58Let's go face the day.
20:00I don't want to.
20:15Do you need this again?
20:16Not right this second.
20:17Actually, yes I do.
20:19Screw sewing.
20:20Use tape.
20:21I think we've hit a whole new definition of costumey.
20:24End of the work room.
20:25Time to get things done.
20:26I taped off all the interior of my bodice
20:28so it didn't shred Alexis' shoulders
20:31and then started just going tape happy.
20:48Good morning designers.
20:49How is everybody?
20:50Stressed.
20:52Stressed.
20:53Stressed, I know.
20:54You have a lot of work to do.
20:55I am about to send in your models.
20:57You will have an hour each to send them
20:59to the Garnier Hair Salon
21:00and the L'Oreal Paris Makeup Room.
21:02Use the bluefly.com wall
21:04and I'll be back to bring you down to the runway
21:07a little later, okay?
21:08All right everybody.
21:09Go, go, go.
21:10Make it work.
21:12Thank you too.
21:18Hey sweetie pie.
21:19Good.
21:20Good.
21:21I had to make a drastic change in our outfit.
21:23Okay.
21:24I had to make you a bikini.
21:25Okay.
21:26Move a little bit to see what moves when you walk.
21:29Oh, it's so cool.
21:30Just Monique herself and her, you know, hair color and skin color
21:34with the combination of the tones of the sandpaper, I think,
21:38is a really beautiful combination.
21:40I'm really excited.
21:41Let's try this on real quick.
21:42At this point, it's all about just sewing in the garment onto the model.
21:47But my problem is I'm working with a plastic garbage bag
21:51and once you put a hole in that material, it's permanent.
21:56It's there.
21:57So she can't really go and pee.
21:59It's still tight.
22:00You'll be fine.
22:01I'm not worried.
22:02Don't freak out.
22:03Let's go.
22:04Let's go.
22:09Pow.
22:15Really make it work.
22:28See you in the day.
22:29Okay.
22:34I have put all these washers on the bikini bottom
22:36and they were too heavy so they wouldn't stay up.
22:39We'll put the top on and maybe I can join them together.
22:42So then we are scrambling in the last hour.
22:45How do we keep the bikini bottom up?
22:48You know, I'm thinking if I do something to tie this to there.
22:52Yeah, it could be one.
22:53Okay, just hold on.
22:54I'm going to do it on you.
22:55Okay, that's fine.
22:56Emilio's garment, not only is it naked,
23:00I don't think that it's done in the best of taste.
23:03The one thing that never goes out of style
23:05is making a woman look like a lady.
23:07And the other person that I'm scared for is Jessie.
23:10Jessie's garment looks tortured.
23:13And not only does Jessie's garment look tortured,
23:15Seth Aaron's garment looks tortured
23:17and so does Ben's garment.
23:19All of those garments look tortured.
23:22This is surprisingly comfortable.
23:24Designers and models, in ten minutes we are going down to the runway.
23:28All right, make certain you are ready.
23:30Thank you, I'll be back.
23:32Carrie's able to slip into the dress.
23:34It is a little big, but I think with this kind of material
23:37I definitely don't want any cuts or scrapes
23:39or the last thing I want to do is physically harm my model.
23:42I feel so happy about my look.
23:46I want it to look like real fashion and not an arts and craft project.
23:52I want it to be mod rock star.
23:56And it was perfect.
23:58It was like Peggy Moffat meets Pink.
24:01Designers and models, this is it.
24:05The moment of reckoning, we're going down to the runway.
24:08Follow me, please.
24:09So the look fits Alexis great.
24:11You know, if I got to defend this thing, I'll defend it all the way to the grave.
24:15Designers and models.
24:17Let's start walking.
24:18Just take that wheel.
24:19The bikini is too short.
24:21The hair is too big.
24:23The makeup is too much.
24:25Everything is to the extreme.
24:26But it's definitely a head to toe, fully committed look.
24:30Emilio.
24:31Yes sir, please.
24:32If I was going to jump off the cliff, I went full throttle.
24:48Welcome to the runway.
24:50As you know in fashion, one day you're in, and the next day you're out.
24:55There are ten of you here and after tonight, there will be nine.
24:58Seth Aaron, you won the last challenge, which gives you immunity.
25:01And you cannot be eliminated this week.
25:03For this challenge, Michael Kors asks you to create a look and an accessory that shows
25:08innovation, creativity, and your point of view as a designer.
25:14He sends you to a hardware store, not a fabric store, to get your supplies.
25:19Okay, let's meet the judges.
25:21First, we have top American designer, Michael Kors.
25:24Hey guys.
25:25Hey.
25:26Fashion director for Marie Claire Magazine, Nina Garcia.
25:29Hi.
25:30Hi everyone.
25:31Fashion designer whose dress was worn by First Lady Michelle Obama at the President's
25:37inauguration, Isabel Toledo.
25:42And Stephen Webster, world-renowned jewelry designer.
25:46We will score your designs as they come down the runway.
25:50One of you will be named the winner, and one of you will be out.
25:55Okay, let's start the show.
25:57I think this piece is really representative of me as a designer.
26:05It references the past, but I think it's modern.
26:08I really push myself on this one, and it really shows the graphic nature of my work.
26:18The look floats wonderfully, and Alexis wears it really well.
26:23Whether somebody loves it or hates it, they're interested in it, and I think that's my goal
26:27ultimately with this kind of challenge, and I think I definitely succeeded in that.
26:31This dress has achieved every single thing I wanted it to.
26:36The movement around Carrie's body, the sheen of the copper under the runway lights, the harmony
26:42between the color of her and the dress is absolutely perfect.
26:45I couldn't have asked for anything better.
26:47I love this dress.
26:51It looks like fashion.
26:53It looks like fabric.
26:54It is very feminine.
26:56It is sexy.
26:57And to me, that's what fashion should be.
27:04The dress looks like it's just, like, levitating around her, which is kind of cool.
27:08Like, it's resting on her shoulders, but it doesn't touch the rest of her body.
27:11It does have a sense of futurism.
27:13It does look a little retro, too.
27:15It definitely embodies what I would have done with fabric anyway.
27:20Holly turns a corner and literally you can hear people's jaws drop.
27:24I don't know if it's dropped because she looks amazing or they're thinking,
27:28what the hell just happened?
27:31It's such a strong look that either you like it or you hate it.
27:35There's no in-between.
27:36I don't think anyone on this earth would have realized that that came out of a hardware store.
27:45That's me as a designer.
27:47I have goosebumps at this point watching her walk down the runway.
27:52I've pushed myself to come up with something amazing out of a trash bag.
28:00It's incredible. I mean, it's exactly what I was going for.
28:04There's nothing I would change.
28:05And my model, she's loving it, really confident in what I did.
28:11So I'm feeling awesome.
28:13The silhouette and the fit are great on her.
28:19I created a pattern that is interesting and the usage of the sandpaper to create a kind of textile is definitely representative of how I like to work.
28:28She looks sophisticated and fashion-forward.
28:34I can see the judges, like, really studying her.
28:38And that's a good sign because I want them to wonder, what is that made of?
28:43If I call your name, please step forward.
28:49Ben.
28:50Jonathan.
28:52Amy.
28:53Seth Aaron, please step forward.
28:56If I have called your name, congratulations.
28:58Your scores have qualified you to move on to the next challenge.
29:01You can leave the runway.
29:02The rest of you represent the highest and the lowest scores.
29:12One of you will be named the winner.
29:14And one of you will be out.
29:17Let's bring out your models.
29:23Mila, tell us about your look and what it is made of.
29:26These are paint tray liners.
29:28And, um, I was just really inspired by the glossy black and white.
29:33I knew that with this I wanted to do something kind of mod and graphic and I loved the texture of them.
29:39I thought it was extraordinary.
29:41The fact that you've made it flow, it's amazing.
29:44That's something that naturally stiff, I guess, just by cutting it up is brilliant.
29:49And that accessory, it's definitely the wittiest accessory.
29:52I didn't know what it said, but that's brilliant.
29:54I like the transformation of the material, too.
29:56I think that's amazing.
29:59Bravo, indeed.
30:01Emilio, tell us about your look and how you made it.
30:03I wanted to create a very strong, sexy woman.
30:07So I used, uh, three different sizes of washers and twine and bolts and wire to create a bathing suit look.
30:18I want to ask Emilio, what happened?
30:21Why did you choose not to do any clothing?
30:23I figured everyone was going to do a dress and a swimsuit is something that you probably wouldn't associate with a hardware store.
30:30I like the full effect because she looks like a Barbie doll and I think you just went with it.
30:35But the simple truth is, she looks really cheesy.
30:38I mean, that's a full cheese fest.
30:39I think, thank God you figured out to make it into a one piece.
30:43Yeah.
30:44Or you'd have a bottomless moment here on Project Runway.
30:47I can't find a pattern to it.
30:49It just looks thrown on.
30:52I like all the thoughts you had about everybody else was going to make a dress, so what else could you do?
30:56I mean, you gave a lot of thought to it, which I appreciate.
30:59Thank you very much.
31:00Anthony.
31:01Hi.
31:02Tell us about your look.
31:04I thought that my innovation for this particular challenge was taking the harsh mesh that was attacking me and finding a way to bring some softness to it.
31:13Honestly, it looks like kind of a bad prom dress.
31:18It seems too boring.
31:22You struggle to make this so pretty and so soft that you missed the point.
31:27I would have loved to have seen something that I would have thought, wow, that's genius.
31:31You should have gone with the fact that you're in a hardware store.
31:34I think, uh, Anthony, I think you went to the software store, didn't you? Not the hardware store.
31:38Maya, tell us about your look.
31:39I wanted to create a jacket that was see-through and open weave, and, um, this is screen, the dress is screen.
31:46I knew I had to do an accessory, and I saw these keys, and they really called out to me, and they were sort of like jewels.
31:52And I mixed them in with the chain, and the silver is actually a dog collar.
31:56This was truly a head-to-toe look.
31:59They were normal pieces looked at in an abnormal way.
32:03Thanks.
32:04The jacket, the necklace, the hair, you showed restraint and just held back.
32:09On the dress, and it was just the right thing to do.
32:12You would not think that this look comes out of the hardware store.
32:16If you would see this shot in Marie Claire magazine, you would not question it.
32:22Jesse, tell us about your look.
32:24So I, uh, grabbed copper flashing, which is what the bodice is made out of.
32:28And then this mesh, which is like a drywall, uh, fixer.
32:33And everything's getting cinched around the waist with some wire.
32:36Feels a little bit like the Tin Man from the Wizard of Oz.
32:39I do like the hair, because it works well with the hair, so that's a good look.
32:43I think her hair with that headband is cool and modern-looking.
32:48And then, all of a sudden, she's dressed up as a Hershey Kiss.
32:55I don't know what she's dressed up as, but it's a costume.
32:58My favorite thing as far as the design detail, can you turn around?
33:02The asymmetry of the back and the stitching there is the only thing that a modern woman in real life would say,
33:10Oh, there's something cool about that.
33:14It looks like you're going to press a button somewhere.
33:17It's going to be a big load of noise, and you start vacuuming the floor with it.
33:20So that's really the weakest part.
33:21Yeah, it looks like a dirty vacuum bag.
33:23A dirty one, yeah.
33:25Jay, tell us about your look.
33:27This is the outfit that I came up with, and it's made out of trash bags.
33:32I added the blue masking tape just to add color to it.
33:34I made this braided belt and a pair of leather pants with these pleat details going on.
33:42I think it is amazing that you made black trash bags look like that.
33:50Especially the belt.
33:51It looks like a leather, woven belt.
33:54It's fantastic.
33:57In a million years, I did not think that this was bias-cut trash bags.
34:01It took a lot of thinking to get to this.
34:05I have to say amazing.
34:07Okay, we've heard what you had to say.
34:10We're going to have a little chat, and then I'm going to call you back.
34:14You can leave the runway.
34:19Let's talk about the ones that did succeed.
34:23Let's talk about Mila.
34:25I was very impressed with her garment.
34:27She really thought about this.
34:28She really thought about, you know, the challenge.
34:31And it was hard.
34:32What she picked as material was very hard.
34:36To pick this paint tray, I think that's a real vision.
34:42So then you look at someone like Jay, for example, who we also loved.
34:46If you didn't know it was garbage bags, his girl could walk off the runway and probably go out to dinner.
34:50He made a luxury product, a sort of out of the least luxurious thing, and that thing just reeked of luxury.
35:00Let's discuss Mila.
35:02You could dissemble what she did.
35:05They were all pieces that stood on their own.
35:08It was very wearable and fashion-forward all at the same time.
35:11Maya's necklace was, hands down, the strongest accessory piece we saw on the runway today.
35:21Let's move on to the ones that we didn't like so much.
35:24What do you think about Emilio's?
35:26I think it's a bloody disaster, really.
35:28And when he said, well, I knew everyone else was going to make a dress.
35:32So, you know, oh, I'm going to be crafty and smart.
35:35I like that he actually thought, well, everybody else is going to make a dress.
35:39Now, if it would have been a successful garment.
35:42That's different. Yes.
35:44It's just not his taste.
35:45Oh, cut to the chase. There was no taste.
35:47He did hit the hardware store and get hardware.
35:50I don't think it was so bad.
35:54Jesse.
35:56Tin man Hershey kiss, ballerina, garbage, newspaper.
36:01Oh.
36:03Vacuum bag. Vacuum bag.
36:04Dirty vacuum bag.
36:05Dirty vacuum bag.
36:07These are fabulous fashion references.
36:09There was absolutely no artistry.
36:11He didn't handle the material as it should have been handled.
36:18Anthony.
36:20What a bore.
36:22I think that he thought he had to make it look like real fabric.
36:27I think you would see that on a rack on sale and you'd just go past it.
36:32He tried too much to make it pretty.
36:35He goes to the hardware store and got conservative and became very uptight.
36:40Okay, so we've made our decision.
36:47Good. Let's bring them back out.
36:52The six of you will present the best and the worst.
36:56One of you will be named the winner and one of you will be out.
37:05One of you will be named the winner and one of you will be out.
37:08One of you will be named the winner and one of you will be out.
37:12Maya, you're in. You're in. You can leave the runway. Thank you.
37:20Jay, congratulations. You're the winner of this challenge.
37:22This is crazy.
37:23What you did was truly amazing and we've seen many garbage bags on Project Runway, but never quite like this.
37:32Your outfit was creatively inspired and very you. You also have immunity for the next challenge and cannot be eliminated.
37:42You can leave the runway.
37:43I won this challenge number two. Second one. This is insane.
38:05Second one! This is insane.
38:09I won!
38:11I'm just a guy who went to a community college in Hawaii
38:15and dropped out and kicking these designers' ass.
38:19I don't know, it just makes me more and more confident
38:21that I could win this all the way through. Yeah.
38:25Mila, another impressive job.
38:30You're in. You can leave the runway.
38:32Thanks.
38:35Anthony.
38:41You're in. You can leave the runway.
38:50Jesse.
38:52Emilio.
38:53One of you will be out.
38:58Jesse.
38:59Your outfit was disappointing and uninspired.
39:03Instead of transforming your material, the metal still looked like metal.
39:09Also, it was costomy and not fashion.
39:13You were clearly held back instead of liberated by the materials.
39:18Emilio.
39:20Your look was pure Vegas showgirl.
39:23There were hardly any clothes on your model.
39:26And it's obvious you struggled with unconventional materials.
39:34Jesse.
39:40You're out.
39:41That means Emilio.
39:42You're in.
39:43You can leave the runway.
39:44Thank you for the opportunity.
39:47You're in.
39:48You're in.
39:49You can leave the runway.
39:50Thank you for the opportunity.
39:52Thank you, guys.
39:53I am the one who should be going.
40:03Thank you, thank you guys.
40:12At this point I don't think I'm the one who should be going.
40:15I put out a risk and I put out something strong and I built it really well.
40:19So that's where the frustration lies.
40:22It's over.
40:26I just didn't see my time coming this soon.
40:28Well Jesse, you know I had concerns about your look.
40:31I never anticipated this outcome.
40:33Me neither.
40:34Never.
40:35So I have to send you to the work room to clean up your space, alright?
40:40Thanks Tim.
40:41We're gonna miss you.
40:43I'll miss you guys.
40:45And I'm happy with what I did and I wouldn't trade this experience for anything else.
40:50Beyond that, you know, see what life brings.
40:53I'm gonna work on my line and keep putting stuff out there and you'll see me soon.
41:09I'll be right back.
