00:00Prosecutors at the International Criminal Court in The Hague will present evidence on Tuesday
00:05to back up charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity brought against fugitive
00:10Ugandan warlord Joseph Kony. It will be the court's first ever in-absentia hearing. Judges
00:18will determine whether or not to confirm the charges against Kony, but he can't be tried
00:23in his absence. Kony faces dozens of counts of crimes against humanity and war crimes
00:29including murder, sexual enslavement and rape for allegedly leading the brutal Lord's
00:35Resistance Army that terrorized northern Uganda. Kony founded the extremist Christian rebel group
00:42in 1987. It went on to abduct, mutilate and kill thousands of civilians in northern Uganda and
00:50across Central and East Africa. In 2005, the ICC issued arrest lawrence against Kony and other
00:58top commanders. Tuesday's hearing is seen as a test case for other proceedings where the
01:04suspect is not in custody, such as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Russia's Vladimir Putin.
