An assertion...that there are no tensions..only good relations , between Trinidad and Tobago and neighbouring Venezuela. It's come from Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs, Sean Sobers.
Speaking in Gasparillo,.. during a clean-up exercise at an E-C--CE centre in his constituency this morning.., he said law-abiding citizens, including fishermen.., have nothing to fear.
00:00There are no tensions. There are no tensions. There's good relations with Venezuela, and we will maintain having those good relations.
00:08Minister of Foreign and Caricom Affairs, Sean Sobers, says TNT nationals have nothing to fear amid growing tensions between Venezuela and the United States.
00:19This comes after what Sobers described as unfortunate comments by a Venezuelan minister on Prime Minister Kamala Pesan-Pesessa's support for the recent U.S. military strike.
00:32He's free to make his statements and comments. We are free to make our own. We still share very close diplomatic ties to the people of Venezuela.
00:40As a matter of fact, I had a very lengthy conversation, cordial conversation with my very good friend, who's the ambassador for Venezuela.
00:47The United States has deployed naval ships to the Southern Caribbean in its fight against drug cartels.
00:55Prime Minister Pesan-Pesan-Pesessa has backed the intervention, even after a U.S. strike claimed the lives of 11 Venezuelan traffickers at sea.
01:05If you call fishermen going out to fish, they have nothing to be prepared for. If I go into full fish, I have nothing to be prepared for.
01:10If I go into the procure or something else, then I should be afraid.
01:14On Sunday, Minister Sobers says at this time, the TNT government welcomes the U.S. intervention.
01:22I mean, at the end of the day, opposition remains the same. The Americans have made it clear the intervention within the region is to combat transnational crime.
01:31Trinidad and Tobago and some other countries have been disproportionately affected by transnational crime.
01:37We have assistance or had gotten assistance in the past, logistically and technologically, from other larger nations to combat it.
01:44Unfortunately, it hasn't reaped the fruits that we would like it to. Physical intervention at this juncture, we welcome it.
