Leeds Rhinos coach Brad Arthur discusses his side's 26-0 win at Huddersfield Giants.

00:00Congratulations and just give us your take on the performance first please.
00:05It was an ugly win but we've got some good habits around finding ways to win which is pleasing.
00:19I was pleased with our defence.
00:22Thought our attack was just lacked a little bit of intent.
00:25Probably carry with enough venom or hungry enough with our carries.
00:30We had a little faster playoff. Execution was a bit down, timing.
00:36A bit scrapping in the ball.
00:39I think again there was a hallmark here as you said in recent weeks.
00:42You found a way to win and that's important.
00:44That's become a habit for us which is good.
00:47Even when we put ourselves under pressure we don't panic.
00:51We know that we'll just turn them away defensively and just go about it.
00:56It wasn't great but it's a win now.
01:00It's hard to win every week so we've got to enjoy it.
01:04How pleased were you with the defence?
01:06That's now two games on the balance where you've knocked one season at the top.
01:10It could be three or four really.
01:13We've only had a good try score against us.
01:16Hull K.R. late and Castleford late.
01:19We were quite annoyed with those tries that we let in.
01:23So defensively we've been very, very good.
01:27But we can't afford to probably keep sucking our petrol tank like the way we have been.
01:34What's the men's style principles when you look about defence?
01:37Is it the turning up for each other or is it to do more with the share?
01:43There's lots of different parts of it but I think attitude.
01:47Everyone talks about defence whether when you've got good defence or when you've got bad defence.
01:52It's a reflection of the attitude, the want, the desire.
01:55So scrambles being good, systems are good, they understand them, they work together.
02:01And if someone comes outside the system or gets something wrong at some stage,
02:05you've got someone covering their back which is really good.
02:08What's the length of Jim Connor?
02:11With his ribs, so he wanted to continue on but there was no need for us to keep him out there.
02:19So I'm sure he'll probably have to have a scan during the week but I'd say it'll be rib cartilage.
02:26I don't play through that.
02:28I appreciate his early stages still but did it look serious at all?
02:33He's sore but I don't know, he might be weak.
02:39I'm not sure he might be awake.
02:41Cooper Jenkins, more question?
02:43Yeah, just his ankle, he fell on it awkwardly or someone landed on him pretty awkwardly
02:49and just sort of stirred it up again but in a couple of days that'll settle.
02:54How do you think he did when Jet went off? Were there any vital needs to attack him?
02:58I just didn't think our attack was great all night but I think we still scored 26 points and kept him to zero.
03:04So I don't want to be too critical.
03:08The thing is we've set high standards and expectations and there's a little bit of flatness when the boys first walked in their dressing shirts.
03:16But I just want to make sure that it's hard to win and it's hard to do it every week.
03:21So we've got to enjoy it while it's there.
03:23How did you think Nat did?
03:25He did a good job.
03:26He got a couple of things wrong and that's part of their experience and education.
03:31They're not going to get everything perfect but he kept going back at it and back at it.
03:35So that's some good signs for him there.
03:37Probably the biggest positive for him was he got through 80 minutes which is handy.
03:42Could Jake have played on if the game was in the balance, if it was close?
03:48Yeah, we made the decision.
03:50Well, we took the decision out of his hands just to take him off.
03:53Would you consider him, depending on the severity, would you consider him giving him a week off?
03:59I might but I don't want to get in the habit of wrestling guys just for the sake of it.
04:06Again, we're not going to know until he pulls up tomorrow and we'll do whatever.
04:11We'll review and then the boys leave the weekend off and then we'll see how he is Monday.
04:17The defence is obviously winning the big games at this time of year.
04:21Do you feel like you've got your defence exactly where you want it going into this period?
04:26Yeah, we've done a really good job of restricting them to metres out of the red zone.
04:31Probably the only field position that they got throughout the game was when we made an error
04:37and then gave a penalty on the back of it.
04:39We talked about a discipline tonight and we're probably just, yeah, a little bit off there.
04:43And are you a coach or will be glued to the telly tomorrow when we're going to play
04:47or will you go back, you know, as usual and just check the score at the end of it?
04:51I don't know, I'd like to watch all the games and just see how all the teams are going.
04:55But again, we don't, you know, we're not really worried about other results at the minute.
05:01We've made the finals. Our next goal is to get a home final and that's all that we're worried about at the moment,
05:08which is, you know, playing Catalans next week.
05:10And we've beaten every team in the competition except for Catalans.
05:13So we need to make sure we do a better job next week.
05:19It'd be nice to go into that last game with the top two players on the grass.
05:23Yeah, it'd be great. But again, we've got a secure home final first. That's our first priority.
05:30Do you care who wins the Saints weekend game?
05:34Because it benefits you one way or the other, doesn't it? Whoever wins.
05:38Yeah. It's not too old to be worrying about that now. Who wins and who doesn't. Just worry about it.
05:45All I care about is if we win.
05:48Do you think second place is realistic?
05:51We need to win next week. That's got to be our priority and the only focus for us at the moment
05:56to make sure we secure our home final. And then from there, we'll see how the results fall.
06:00But that's not within our control. We've worked really hard this year on our responses and what we can control.
06:07And again tonight, we weren't great with the ball, but our response was really good defensively.
06:12And five straight wins now, successive clean sheets.
06:15And that suggests that you're coming good at exactly the right time, doesn't it?
06:21Yeah. Look, it's hard. We're all a bit flat after tonight's performance.
06:25We've probably, you know, we've set high standards and expectations of being quite medium tonight.
06:30And a five-day turnaround, you know, we can look for excuses if we want
06:34or we just say we just didn't play well enough.
06:37We're all at the standard we wanted to play tonight.
06:39It's quite positive that you're all feeling like that after a 26-0 away win, isn't it?
06:43Yeah, it is. And, you know, it's a credit to the opposition too,
06:46because I felt like they really had a crack and they were physically good
06:49and they got stuck into us.
06:50So, you know, I'm not trying to be disrespectful to the opposition,
06:54but that was just the feeling from the boys.
06:56They're a little bit flat after the game when they first come in,
06:59but then, you know, they've got a bit jovial at the back of that
07:02and they've got to enjoy winning.
07:04It's hard to do.
07:06Thanks, Brock.
07:08Thanks, Brock.
07:09Thanks for being here.
07:10Thank you, Brock.
