YEP rugby league writer Peter Smith reflects on Leeds Rhinos' fifth successive win as they kept another clean sheet in a defensively dominant performance at Huddersfield Giants.
Transcript
00:01Brad Arthur described it as an ugly win here at Hudsfield Giants tonight.
00:06But a win's a win. 26-0 for Leeds Rhinos.
00:09That's back-to-back clean sheets.
00:11They've conceded just two tries in their last four games.
00:15Haven't conceded in the first half of any of those.
00:18This win strengthens their hold on third place in a home semi-final.
00:23Potentially they could still be on course for second
00:27if it's going to take Wigan slipping up somewhere
00:31and Leeds winning there in the final round
00:34but that's still mathematically possible
00:36and Leeds are coming into form at exactly the right time.
00:39This wasn't their best performance, certainly not on attack.
00:42They scored one try early on and then didn't get another until the last quarter
00:46when they ran in three, one of which was an absolute beauty.
00:49But defensively they were dominant.
00:51Other than a try to slam for forward pass, Huddersfield never looked like scoring.
00:55Leeds were completely on top.
00:58In the second half they didn't give Huddersfield a sniff.
01:01One concern is an injury to Jake Connor.
01:03He came off with a rib injury in the second half.
01:08Apparently he wanted to go back on but Leeds decided it wasn't worth the risk
01:13at that stage of the game and he was persuaded to stay off the field.
01:19It could be rib cartilage.
01:21At this stage not sure how bad that is going to be.
01:24It doesn't sound too serious but whether it's available for next week's game
01:28against Catalan's Dragons or not we don't know.
01:30But that's now five successive wins for INOS and they seem to be coming into form
01:34at exactly the right time.
01:36the right time.
