00:00Search and rescue operations continue in Sudan's Darfur region.
00:04Around 100 bodies have been recovered after a catastrophic landslide buried a remote village
00:10in the Mara mountains. The Sudan Liberation Movement warned the death toll could reach 1,000.
00:15The UN says the truth scale remains unclear as the area is extremely hard to reach,
00:20but fears are mounting that an entire community has been wiped out.
00:23What we are trying to do right now, first thing, is to reach that area. But unfortunately,
00:30as we speak, neither any international humanitarian agency or any UN agency has been able to reach there,
00:38considering the challenges of excess, the rains, and also, you know, the flooding and the flash floods
00:45in the bodies on the way. Fortunately, because of the rainy seasons, the rains happening in the region,
00:51because of the roads which are currently submerged and there are excess challenges to that place,
00:57we couldn't independently verify what had actually happened, what is the exact death toll,
01:03what is the impact, what are the needs, and how we could support.
01:07The landslide is compounding misery in Sudan, a country gripped by war for the past two years.
01:12The mountainous range is a World Heritage Site and is known for its lower temperature and higher
01:16rainfall than its surroundings.
