00:00The United Nations says that 17 areas in Sudan are now classified as at risk of famine,
00:10including Paso Darfur, the Noba Mountains, Khartoum, and Jazira.
00:17A year ago, in August of 2024, famine was confirmed in the Zamzam camp
00:24and has since spread to areas in Darfur and Kordofan.
00:29Currently, 17 areas are classified as at risk of famine, including parts of Darfur, the Noba Mountains, Khartoum, and Jazira.
00:39Since then, the situation, especially in El Fasher, has only gotten worse, as we've been telling you, almost on a daily basis.
00:47Our friends at the World Food Program today called for humanitarian access to El Fasher that is facing starvation
00:52and remains cut off from humanitarian assistance.
00:56The World Food Program says that as a coping mechanism, some residents of the area are reportedly surviving on animal fodder and food waste.
01:07The World Food Program continues to provide digital cash support to roughly a quarter million people in the city,
01:14allowing them to buy the dwindling food left in the markets.
01:17However, the escalating needs make it imperative to address the hunger situation at a scale that is actually required.
01:26We reiterate our concern about the ongoing conflict and renew our calls for all parties to end the violence
01:32and resolve the dialogue and to put the interests of their people first.
01:36The briefing comes as health officials in Sudan launch a 10-day cholera vaccination campaign in the capital Khartoum
01:46to curb what humanitarians call a rapidly spreading outbreak.
