South Sudan: Hundreds of thousands flee clashes in Akobo

Some 200,000 people have been displaced from Akobo, the latest flashpoint of fighting between armies loyal to the government and opposition in South Sudan.

00:01It's the latest flashpoint of fighting between the government and opposition supporters in South Sudan.
00:08Violence has broken out in the opposition-held town of Akobo, sources said on Wednesday.
00:13The unrest has forced hundreds of thousands to flee their homes and left schools without humanitarian aid.
00:21It comes after the army instructed foreign aid agencies to leave the town last week,
00:26ahead of an offensive to bring the town back under government control.
00:31In a statement, the opposition said it attacked the army on Tuesday, leading to their, quote, defeat.
00:41It rejected an earlier announcement from the army that it had reinstalled the, quote, legitimate commissioner for the area.
00:50With communications limited, it has been complicated to confirm events on the ground.
00:57A source for the security agency in the country confirmed that the army had entered Akobo on Tuesday
