Ram brings back the Hemi

Ram starts shipping pickup trucks with popular Hemi engine after a one year absence

00:00After a one-year absence, the legendary V8 Hemi engine has now returned to the Ram 1500 lineup,

00:08with the first new models now shipping to dealerships.

00:11A little over a year ago, when the Ram was updated,

00:14it seemed logical to make the only engine choice, the six-cylinder Hurricane engine.

00:19After all, it could put out 420 or even 540 horsepower, more than the Hemi's 395 horsepower.

00:27But 40% of Ram customers said they won't buy another one if it didn't have a V8.

00:34We heard from our customers, there are 3.6 million Ram truck light duties out on the market today,

00:40and when our customers come back to the market, we heard them.

00:44They want to have available the Hemi.

00:46The Hemi is actually a $1,200 upcharge on the base model,

00:50but it does come with other extras like a larger fuel tank.

00:53We're at the Stellantis Proving Ground in Chelsea, Michigan,

00:56where the people at Ram are allowing us to put this Hemi-powered vehicle through its paces.

01:04That includes autocross, off-roading, towing, and a nice on-road drive.

01:10General impression is it won't disappoint.

01:17Certainly not when you start the engine for the first time.

01:22They want to know they have the V8.

01:23They want to know they have the engine that they love.

01:25So we gave all that we can this year to them.
