During the CELAC summit, Venezuela denounced the military deployment carried out by the United States in the Caribbean. According to Venezuelan Foreign Minister Yván Gil, the growing U.S. military presence in Caribbean waters is a serious threat to regional peace and a flagrant violation of the status of peace zone declared by CELAC in 2014. The high-ranking Venezuelan official stated that Venezuela faces an unprecedented situation in terms of regional security, with the presence of eight U.S. warships in the Caribbean Sea, carrying more than 1,200 missiles and nearly 4,200 troops trained and ready for an invasion.
