Dry weather is coming for the Southern Plains while much lower temperatures are in store for the Northern Plains after soaking storms early in the week.
Transcript
00:00That cold front, we can see the front that's going to be marching in our direction when we switch over to the infrared satellite loop.
00:06There's the frontal location. That's what plunges southward over the next few days.
00:11So as we head back to radar, we've had some severe storms.
00:14Damien's going to talk about the southern plains and just a brief look into the southern Kansas areas around Harper County,
00:20southern parts of Sedgwick County, and northern Sumner County.
00:23Severe thunderstorm warnings are in effect right now.
00:26We also have some activity near Woodward, Oklahoma, but other areas to the north,
00:32while we don't have much lightning up near St. Joseph or Kansas City, it's been a damp and kind of drizzly day in that area.
00:39Temperatures are down in some of those areas.
00:41So look out for some scattered storms.
00:43Slow movers are popping in southern parts of Minnesota.
00:46These slow-moving thunderstorms are just drifting.
00:48They're not severe in southern Minnesota.
00:50We do have a severe thunderstorm in progress west of Bismarck here,
00:54and here we are south of Richardson.
00:56So southeastern Stark County and northeastern Hettinger County of North Dakota,
01:01a severe thunderstorm is in progress.
01:03Turning the reports on, not seeing much out of that yet.
01:07Here is a couple of funnel cloud reports, though,
01:10and this one from just midday today in Adrian, North Dakota,
01:14video indicating a weak funnel cloud.
01:17Also, just earlier this afternoon in Blomkist in Minnesota,
01:21a report of a funnel cloud there as well.
01:24So we need to keep an eye out for some severe weather in the next half hour or next hour or so,
01:29getting closer to the state line or the international border up in far northeastern North Dakota
01:34and northwestern Minnesota.
01:35That will be a concern.
01:37Quickly looking ahead to tomorrow, more storms breaking out into the upper Midwest.
01:41This is your severe threat setup.
01:44We won't see a whole lot of severe weather,
01:46but there will be some strong thunderstorms,
01:47and a couple of these could become severe.
01:49Wednesday, they plunge south into Chicago, Peoria, Kansas City,
01:52but colder air marches in, Damien.
01:54It's going to be a big change behind this front.
01:57That's right.
01:57That colder air is going to bring some record-breaking cold here to some areas,
02:00but yes, it's going to feel not just like September, Jeff.
02:03It's going to feel like October here for some of those areas,
02:05which for some means some temperatures in the 30s possible.
02:08Meanwhile, we've got some flood concerns farther south.
02:10That's right.
02:10We'll be watching out for increasing flooding concerns here as we head throughout,
02:13not just today, but into tomorrow as well.
02:15The good news is nothing like what we saw over the weekend in Texas,
02:19but travel delays and drenching downpours will definitely be possible here in this highlighted region.
02:23We still have ongoing light to moderate showers here continuing,
02:27and as you can see over the past couple of hours,
02:29this rainfall hasn't really budged much, hasn't really moved very far,
02:33so some of these areas are just seeing rounds and rounds of light to moderate rainfall,
02:37which is why that overall flooding potential is so high here across this region.
02:41Now, we're also watching out for those severe storms there along the I-35 corridor in far southern parts of Kansas.
02:47We've also seen multiple severe thunderstorm warnings there in far northwestern parts of Oklahoma,
02:51so we will be watching out for this region,
02:53especially as those storms get closer to the I-40 corridor in Oklahoma,
02:57so Clinton, Weatherford, those areas will be watching out for storms here
03:01as we head throughout the rest of this afternoon and this evening.
03:04Here's the risk of flooding rainfall as we head throughout your Tuesday from Texarkana up through Cincinnati.
03:09This whole region right here will be watching out for localized flash flooding concerns
03:12with frequent downpours, especially across the mid-south.
03:15Memphis is almost going to be bullseyeed for this region of rainfall that we will be tracking.
03:21Tuesday, heat across south Texas.
03:24Now, far southern Texas, Corpus Christi, Laredo, down through McAllen, Brownsville, Progresso.
03:30Pretty good showers, pretty good storms, but for Oklahoma, Kansas, the Texas Panhandle, pleasant weather.
03:35Really nice forecast here for your Tuesday afternoon.
03:38Here's a look at our highs we'll be tracking.
03:40Still going to be hot for some parts of Texas, including 95 in Austin, 88 in Dallas, 81.
03:45Pretty nice afternoon there in Oklahoma City Tuesday afternoon.
03:48Across the rest of the region here as we head into Wednesday,
03:51that's when the nice weather is really going to be in the forecast,
03:53especially south of the I-40 corridor from Amarillo, Oklahoma City, and almost all of the Lone Star State.
03:59It's going to be dry here as we head near Wednesday afternoon.
