Joe Buck analyses Newcastle United's decision to sell Alexander Isak to Liverpool and what that means for incoming signings on deadline day.
Transcript
00:00So, deadline day is here and of course, Newcastle United's deadline day began with the news that Alexander Izak is going to move to Liverpool.
00:08Now Newcastle will bank £130 million for the striker, which when you look at it, isn't the £150 million they demanded probably most of the summer.
00:17It is far more than Liverpool's first offer of £110 million, so it's somewhere in the middle.
00:23Not surprising that they've come to that agreement and obviously, you know, Newcastle United fans have made their feelings on Alexander Izak known.
00:30It hasn't been available for them since March and everything's gone on in the background with that deal.
00:36You've got to look at it and say it's £130 million a fair price. On the surface, it probably is.
00:41Should they have probably tried to get more? Well, they would have got more.
00:44Should they have banked more for Izak? Maybe. I think he's probably worth more than that.
00:47Certainly, if you look at something like Philippe Coutinho's move to Barcelona, that was for more money.
00:52And we all know what's happened to transfers and wages and everything since then, how much they've inflated.
00:57So, Newcastle United probably could have benefited from more money, but, you know, the situation involving Izak and being unselectable, you know, refusing to play for the club.
01:05I think that has probably drove the price down.
01:07And Liverpool, you know, as much as their tactics, you know, will be, I think a lot of clubs and a lot of fans will look at that in a bad way.
01:16You know, Liverpool have got their better end of the deal, I think.
01:18So, now, with a time of recording this, less than 12 hours to go of the window, Newcastle United simply need a striker.
01:26They've signed Nick Valtomada from Stuttgart, which was good.
01:31You know, if they kept him and Izak, then that would have been a really good window.
01:34Now, they've lost Izak. They need to get another striker in.
01:37Who that other striker is remains up in the air.
01:40You know, Jürgen Strand-Larsson and Johan Wisser have both been wanted for the last couple of weeks, but both seem really difficult to do.
01:47You know, it's not a surprise that Brentford and Wolves don't want to lose their key man before the end of the window.
01:52Now, of course, Brentford have already lost a catalogue of key players.
01:55Wolves haven't started the season brilliantly.
01:57You know, they're in the bottom three without a win.
01:58Sorry, without a single point in the Premier League.
02:00So, seeing them to clubs sell their main man, main striker on deadline day, would be a blow for them.
02:08Their fans, that team, I think they're going to be difficult deals to do.
02:11And, of course, we've seen the kind of money involved in them.
02:14You know, Newcastle United quoted £60 million for Johan Wisser.
02:16Similar amounts for Jürgen Strand-Larsson or even more, because that's what they've been got rejected.
02:20So, yeah, it's going to be an interesting last few hours, of course.
02:22The Alexander attack situation's done.
02:24I think Newcastle can park that.
02:25Newcastle fans can park that.
02:26That's over.
02:27Now, their concentration will be on who they can bring in, who can strengthen before the 7pm deadline, because they really need it.
02:34The last few games have shown that they need someone up front.
02:36Of course, as I mentioned, Volta Madder is in the building, but as an unproven in the Premier League, you know, it's going to be a big ask for him to come for his first season in English football and score the goals at the level of Izak scored, really.
02:49So, they're going to have to bring someone in, even if it's someone who's just got a little bit of Premier League experience.
02:53That's why I think the Strand-Larsson and Wissler deals make sense, you know, that they're Premier League experienced players who can play and almost guarantee goals, whilst Volta Madder can get used to any house system and, you know, becoming the main man, the leader of the other strike force.
03:06But, yeah, getting, you know, into the nitty-gritty hours of the window, it's going to be very, it's very difficult to see how Newcastle and they get a strike out.
03:13They all believe they can, as there is belief they can.
03:16We've seen transfers can, you know, change very quickly, get an offer accepted, but right now, as a stand, Newcastle United have lost Alexander Izak and will head into the new season with just one recognised striker in their ranks.
03:26But, as I mentioned, all this can change and, of course, the best way you can stay up to date with all the latest Newcastle United transfer news and who they, you know, they might get to replace Alexander Izak.
03:34The best way you can stay up to date with all of that is, of course, with the Shields Gazette.
