00:00Newcastle United look to have finally got their striker signing that Alexander Isak replacement.
00:06The club have agreed a £55m total package with Brentford for forward Johan Wisser.
00:13A striker forward can play across the front three.
00:18They've been targeting since the middle of July really, even before that, as a potential replacement for Callum Wilson.
00:25And then, in turn, as it happens, Alexander Isak, because Alexander Isak, overnight, £130m deal agreed with Liverpool.
00:34And Alexander Isak is already in Liverpool doing his medical. That deal is set to be announced later today.
00:40But another deal set to be announced later today in the opposite direction for Newcastle, incoming Johan Wisser from Brentford.
00:48Again, there's a £55m deal. Newcastle have had bids rejected by Brentford earlier in the summer for £25m, £35m, and now £55m, which is £50m plus £5m in add-ons.
01:02It's a lot of money for a player who turns 29 this week, spends a decent part of the busiest part of the season away at the African Cup of Nations.
01:13And he was out of contract at Brentford next summer, though did have an option for a further year.
01:20So, effectively, he had two years left on his contract at Brentford.
01:23It's a lot of money to pay, but you go back, say, five years when Newcastle paid £20m for Callum Wilson.
01:30Look, the market has changed quite a lot, but that was Newcastle's third most expensive signing at the time.
01:36For a 28-year-old striker who had a decent record scoring in the Premier League at Bournemouth.
01:44Now, five years on, the market has inflated massively.
01:48Newcastle have agreed a £50m plus £5m in add-ons deal for a 28-year-old forward who can play across the front three,
01:57but also scored 20 goals in all competitions for Brentford last season.
02:01So, look, it's a lot of money Newcastle have paid.
02:05It's the transfer spending now in the region of £250m this summer, obviously offset by the £130m.
02:13We'll get for Alexander Isak, £15m for Sean Longstaff, £20m for Lloyd Kelly, there or thereabouts.
02:19So, they have had the best selling window as well in terms of transfer fees recouped in, well, quite possibly ever.
02:27I'd have a decent guess at, so, yeah, it's been a very hectic transfer window for Newcastle.
02:36Has it been a good one? Well, I think the proof will be in the pudding, because at the start of the window,
02:42if you said you're going to lose Alexander Isak and Callum Wilson, it's going to be very difficult to replace them.
02:47But Newcastle have brought in Nick Valtemarta, who's one of the most exciting young strikers in Europe.
02:55Still has a lot to prove, still unproven at Premier League level.
02:58But a player who is proven at Premier League level, Johan Wisser, who comes in 19 Premier League goals last season,
03:04scored the same number of Premier League goals from open play as Alexander Isak last season.
03:09Only Mohamed Salah scored more goals from open play than Johan Wisser.
03:13So, Newcastle, on the average, would you say, have maybe maintained the status quo in terms of the squad,
03:21arguably even improved it.
03:23They've lost, look, Alexander Isak, who was probably operating at 70% towards the back end of the season anyway.
03:30Even if he stayed at the club, wouldn't have been fully engaged, at full tilt for Newcastle.
03:38It wouldn't have been that Alexander Isak would know previously from that sort of January, December,
03:43Carabao Cup final sort of period, where he was probably the best striker in the world.
03:49Newcastle wouldn't have got that.
03:51So, they've salvaged the situation with the signing of Johan Wisser and Nick Valtemarta.
03:56So, let's see what happens, because they've lost Callum Wilson as well,
04:00who, again, last season didn't offer an awful lot, didn't score a Premier League goal.
04:04Good to see him score for West Ham over the weekend.
04:07But what could he really, really offer the side?
04:11And we saw towards the back end of the season, the answer to that was not an awful lot.
04:16So, Newcastle's squad as a whole, Newcastle's attacking options as a whole,
04:19could end up being improved for Eddie Howe when you're looking at competing in the Champions League,
04:26in the Premier League, the domestic cup competitions as well.
04:29So, it's interesting for Newcastle, how will it all pan out?
04:33But I think they've given themselves a fighting chance of not only coping with the loss of Alexander Isak
04:40and indeed Callum Wilson, but potentially even getting better and being better for it.
04:46But, again, there's a lot of question marks over that.
04:48Johan Wisser will have to almost hit the ground running and be that source of goals for Newcastle,
04:54where they've lacked that spearhead this season.
04:56And Nick Valtemarta as well will have to adapt to Premier League football quite quickly
05:00and be that man that can be that long-term successor for Alexander Isak in the squad.
05:07They've spent £65 million, a lot of money.
05:10Wisser as well, £55 million.
05:12Again, he is there for immediate impact because he's in the prime of his career right now at 28-29
05:19by the time he plays his first game for the club.
05:21So, he's expected for his medical on Tyneside later today.
05:26And there'll be more updates to come from myself, Dom Sker, at Dom Sker on X
