* Thousands rally in support of Honduran presidential candidate Rixi Moncada
Transcript
00:00Venezuelan people continues the massive enlistment in the Bolivarian militias to defend its sovereignty amid U.S. threats.
00:19More than a hundred cities around the world are holding a day of solidarity with Venezuela and Latin American and Caribbean amid the ongoing U.S. aggression in the region.
00:30In Honduras, citizens took to the streets of San Pedro de Sula to support presidential candidate Rizzi Moncada ahead of November General Elections.
00:43Hello, welcome from the South. I'm Luis Alberto Matos from the Derezu Studios in Havana, Cuba. We begin with the news.
00:53The Venezuelan people went to the streets again on Saturday throughout the national territory to participate in the fourth day of military enlistment called by President Nicolas Maduro as part of the plan for sovereignty and peace in the defense of the country.
01:17The Bolivarian militia has once again set up more than a thousand points in the main squares and other emblematic spaces of the nation accompanied by regional leaders, military authorities and community organizations.
01:28The activity is being held under the slogan, Venezuela is not a threat, it is hope, to express a firm rejection of foreign threats and U.S.-driven destabilization attempts.
01:37The country's combat forces joined this new day of military enlistment reaffirming their commitment to peace, security and the well-being of the country.
01:46The Venezuelan people's militia militia militia combat units have responded to the president's call throughout the national territory. No one has stayed at home. No one, from the youngest to the oldest, women, men, grandfathers, and grandmothers, have responded to the president's call.
02:05We are ready, president, when you give the order, when the alarm sounds.
02:12Venezuela is ready to tell the hawks of the north to calm down, to be patient.
02:18Because they should not dare.
02:19Because they should not dare.
02:20Because we will be their worst nightmare, and the worst calamities of the American people are coming if they dare to attack the Bolivar's people.
02:33Bolivar's people are coming if they dare to attack the Bolivar's people.
03:03Let's now welcome our guest, Arnold August, International Analysis, for half a more detailed analysis on what is happening in Venezuela.
03:13Welcome, Arnold, to From the South.
03:15Hello, Alberto. Thank you very much for having me once again. It's always a pleasure.
03:20It's always a pleasure to have you here with us. Arnold, what can you tell us about the importance of what is happening today in Venezuela,
03:28but also the importance of this broad support that has been seen by the international community,
03:35the international people from all over the country, from all over the world, have come and expressed their support for Venezuela.
03:42Well, let's start with the domestic portion.
03:45I think that it's very important what has happened since the initial threat was made public.
03:51The Maduro government gave a call for people to enlist into the militia, whether, you know, men, women, younger people,
04:02in order to join the civic military union to thwart any attempt by the United States to actually invade Venezuela.
04:12Now, I don't want to be overly optimistic, but I think already one could say, because of this domestic show of force and unity by the revolutionary Venezuelan people,
04:25I think that the attempt by Trump has already backfired.
04:31I mean, you know, they will never admit it, but they're looking at the news.
04:34They know, whether they like it or not, that the people are responding massively to the call to enlist in order to fight against the U.S. aggression.
04:47And internationally, I think it's also very encouraging.
04:51I think it goes side by side.
04:52It's encouraging for us, domestically as well as internationally.
04:55I just saw on the Telesur, I think it was last night, a very good report, Telesur English,
05:02based on the letter from President Maduro to the United Nations Secretary General Guterres.
05:10And there was a response, a very nice response, as usual, by the Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson,
05:18who responded saying, we fully agree with what that letter has to say.
05:23And she also acknowledged the importance of the decision by the Caribbean and Latin American countries to declare that whole area a zone of peace.
05:33So this is what happened internationally.
05:35It's not being international.
05:36I'd like to add one more point internationally, perhaps people are not thinking about it.
05:40I think it's important.
05:41I think the United States, with all their think tanks and all their, you know, strategy and experts and all that,
05:48they did not, when they started this campaign a few days ago, they did not think ahead of time.
05:54That is, on September 3rd, just in a few days' time, there will be a massive demonstration in the streets, parade, military parade in Beijing, China,
06:06based on the anniversary of the defeat of Japan.
06:10And there's going to be people from all over the world.
06:13In fact, CNN, they said, let's be careful, so to speak.
06:18CNN said, Beijing is showing their military force because they're having, of course, Vladimir Putin and also the President of Korea.
06:27And we also know, for example, that Jorge Rodriguez, who was the President of the National Assembly of Venezuela,
06:34will also be there in Beijing to celebrate this.
06:38So there's a lot of things happening internationally, but all are working in favor of our cause to defend sovereignty of Venezuela
06:47and the dignity of the people of Latin America and the Caribbean.
06:52Arnold, you were referring to all the think tanks and all the strategies in the U.S.
06:56Yes. So I wonder, how we're not able to foresee the support that the Venezuelan people would present towards the government of Nicolás Maduro,
07:06of President Nicolás Maduro, and also the support that they would receive internationally from the different regional organizations,
07:11as you were saying, and different peoples of the world?
07:15Yes, I think that's a very good question.
07:17I, for one, I would love to ask Donald Trump directly, or anyone in his great cabinet,
07:22did you not foresee? Don't you guys know about the history of Venezuela going back from the time of BolĂvar?
07:29And did you not foresee that there will be resistance? You should know about it.
07:33I mean, you guys already attempted a coup d'etat against Chavez, and it was defeated.
07:39They only lasted 72 hours, and here we are, many years later, you're trying it again?
07:44So I don't know, you know, why they didn't foresee it.
07:49Like in my view, the problem with the United States, they have in their mind, they do not believe that the people in the South,
07:59in this case Venezuela, have the consciousness and the determination to determine their own future, irrespective of what the United States said.
08:10That's why they're blinded by this U.S.-centric notion that father knows best.
08:16You know, U.S. is going to come to the aid of Venezuela supposedly against narco traffic and all that.
08:23So they just, it doesn't enter in their thick mind that the people in the South, in this case Venezuela, can reason for themselves,
08:33can make rational decisions. When the government calls for them to enlist, they can get in line and enlist.
08:41They cannot fathom the role of the people of the South being the authors of their own destiny.
08:50Arnold, what do you think is the real motivation behind President Trump's, the Trump's administration,
08:56actions of doing this clear, deliberate aggression against Venezuela, of spreading them with the use of military force,
09:05and to put in such a high price on the President of Venezuela, Nicolas Maduro, $50 million bounty,
09:12which is twice the one that they had put on the late Osama Bin Laden.
09:17What do you think was the real motivation to do this now?
09:21Well, there's a lot of discussion about the motivation of the United States.
09:26In general, most analysts are saying that they want Venezuelan oil.
09:31That is the main motivation.
09:33You know, obviously this is the case.
09:36But in my view, my humble view, it is not the only reason.
09:40You know, if Venezuela, you know, just kept their oil,
09:44but at the same time did not take a strong stand in support of Palestine,
09:48did not take a strong stand in support of Russia, did not take a strong stand in support of China,
09:53and the attempts by the U.S. to interfere in China's internal affairs through Taiwan, et cetera, et cetera.
09:59If Venezuela didn't do all these things, perhaps, maybe I'm wrong,
10:04perhaps the United States would have left Venezuela alone with their oil and not have this military provocation.
10:10My view, perhaps I'm wrong, that oil is not the only issue.
10:15The issue that U.S. imperialism has with Venezuela is that tradition going back from Bolivar, Chavez, and Amadouro.
10:24That is, supporting the peoples of the world.
10:27For example, it's very important, Palestine is a litmus test,
10:32and which country shows more support right from the beginning in this recent series of events
10:38that are going on over the last almost two years.
10:41If Venezuela and President Maduro did not have any fear but to speak out very boldly in support of Palestine
10:50against the United States and Israel, as well as on the issue of Ukraine openly saying that this whole conflict there was provoked by the United States and NATO,
11:04and Russia has every right to defend itself.
11:07Same thing with regards to China. Same thing with regards to Iran.
11:10You know, when U.S.-Israel attacked Iran, what did Venezuela say?
11:14They completely supported the Iranian response to the U.S.-Israeli aggression.
11:21So I think, in my view, in addition to oil, these are also the issues which is pushing the United States to try and overthrow the Maduro government.
11:32Thank you very much, Arnold, for your input, as always, here from the South.
11:37Thank you very much for having me. Have a good evening.
11:40You as well.
11:41To continue with more information, as we were saying, clear support is being shown across the world for Venezuela and the Venezuelan people,
11:48such is the case in Portugal, an event was held as part of the Global Day of Solidarity with Venezuela.
11:54Portuguese and Venezuelan citizens living in Madeira gathered to call on for peace in Latin America
11:59while condemning the deployment of U.S. warships and nuclear submarines in the Caribbean Sea.
12:04The event took place at the Funcial Municipal Garden around a post of SimĂłn BolĂvar, also known as the Liberator.
12:11The rally was held in solidarity with Venezuela and to advocate for peace in the region.
12:16And the International Anti-Fascist Chapter of Costa Rica has also joined in on this day of global solidity and defense of Venezuela's sovereignty.
12:29From the International Anti-Fascist Chapter in Costa Rica chapter, we condemn the militarization of the Caribbean Sea in Latin America by the U.S. government.
12:42We declare that Latin America is a zone of peace, we do not want interference in the internal affairs of any country, yes to the sovereignty of the Latin American peoples.
12:52We are the anti-fascist international in Costa Rica.
12:57We condemn the disrespect for the sovereignty of the Caribbean waters of countries that do not want to be subjugated, in violation of the uncharter, enough political interference, enough genocide, enough fascism on the part of the U.S. empire.
13:16Here we are in San Jose, Costa Rica, outside this embassy, with all that it symbolizes, especially at this time of military deployment.
13:27We want to make clear our support and solidarity with the authorities, and especially with the people of Venezuela, and with all the sovereign peoples of the region.
13:36We now have our first break coming up, remember you can join us on TikTok at Telesur English, where you'll find news in different formats, news updates, and much more.
13:45We're going to be right back, stay with us.
14:06Welcome back.
14:08In Honduras, a huge rally was held in San Pedro Sula, in support of presidential candidate lawyer Risi Moncada, who says that the Reef Foundation Party is committed to transforming the country.
14:18The rally was attended by hundreds of activists who traveled across the city in buses, minibuses, and private vehicles coming from the country's 18 departments, joining a march in support of presidential candidate Risi Moncada.
14:30She said it had been a historic mobilization, gathering hundreds of thousands of comrades committed to continuing the process of rebuilding the country in order to transform and develop Honduras.
14:41Moncada vowed to build a proud, free, independent, democratic, and socialist country for the benefit of its people, as a historic vindication of justice from the era of the banana plantations.
14:53And the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America Alba TCP inaugurated Saturday a shipping route among its member countries.
15:04The ceremony was held at the Mariel Special Development Zone in Cuba, with the arrival of the Venezuelan vessel Manuel Gual, which carried food and other essential goods to the Caribbean island.
15:13The new route is part of the regional bloc's strategy to promote the economic development of its members, as well as their food sovereignty.
15:20It also represents a response to the deployment of U.S. military forces in the Caribbean, as well as to Washington's disinformation campaign to justify its provocative actions against the Bolivarian nation.
15:35And the justice system in Argentina is raiding drug companies and state agencies for denounced payments of drives.
15:41Millet's executive is focused on discovering who is responsible for the recordings that target top officials.
15:47Despite being surrounded by one of the most damaging corruption schemes of recent years, the executive's priority is to find out who recorded Carina Millet, the sister of the head of state and secretary of government,
15:57after a new audio links her to the collection of millions of U.S. dollars through overprices at the National Disability Agency.
16:04While the audios implicated members of Millet's party continue to come out, Prosecutor Franco Piccardi and Judge Sebastian Castanello carry out new rates at the agency and the main implicated drugstore.
16:16On Friday, U.S. appeals court ruled that most of Donald Trump's new tariffs are illegal but can stay in effect until October 14th to give time for a Supreme Court appeal.
16:30The split decision from the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit in Washington, D.C. addressed the legality of what Trump calls reciprocal tariffs imposed as part of his trade war in April,
16:39as well as a separate set of tariffs imposed in February against China, Canada and Mexico.
16:45The court ruled that the president does have the legal authority to impose narrow sectoral tariffs like those on steel and aluminum imports,
16:53but he far exceeded his power with the global tariffs on imports he first declared in April.
16:58Despite the legality of Trump's actions for having exceeded his powers, he remains optimistic and assures that he will get away with it in court.
17:06And in Hungary, the Foreign Minister Peter Sijarto assures that the European Union is isolated from world politics.
17:15On Friday, during his speech at the Transit Political Festival, Sijarto stated that this situation was reached through a series of bad decisions
17:22and dramatic mistakes by the president of the European Commission, as well as the political elite, who are mostly in favor of the European war.
17:29In this regard, he cited the bloc's failed attempts to sanction Russia under pretext of ending the conflict with Ukraine.
17:35The Foreign Minister also added that these mistakes have definitely led to the European Union at a point today
17:40where its competitiveness is not even politically decisive on a global level.
17:44We now have our second break coming up, but before we invite you to join us as we tour Cuba in search of community projects
17:54that work every day for the country's present and future, the Cuban way from Monday to Friday at 4.30 pm Caracas,
18:01and amount of time on TELESUR.
18:04We are going to be right back.
18:06We are beginning to fly even some time.
18:07Two years
18:15The Foreign Minister
18:30Welcome back.
18:43In Palestine, the humanitarian crisis in Gaza continues to deepen, with the death flow now
18:47exceeding 63,000 since the conflict began on October 7th, 2023.
18:52Gaza's health authorities reported that 59 more people were killed and 244 injured in
18:56the past 24 hours alone, bringing the total number of deaths to 63,025, with over 159,000
19:03others wounded since the start of the genocide.
19:05On the other hand, 23 people were killed on Thursday while trying to receive UMH RNA, raising
19:10the number of aid seekers killed in Gaza to more than 2,200.
19:15The growing hunger crisis also claimed five more lives, including two children, pushing
19:19the number of starvation-related deaths to 322, according to the officials.
19:28After learning on Friday that the United States government would not grant a visa to the Palestinian
19:32delegation to attend the United Nations Summit in September, voices of rejection rise worldwide.
19:37The Palestinian government rejected Washington's decision and demanded to reverse the measure
19:42as Palestine ratifies that it is an action contrary to international law.
19:46The Organization of Islamic Cooperation also showed deep concern and expressed its rejection
19:51of the U.S. decision.
19:52In addition, several Arab countries, such as Jordan, Qatar and Lebanon, rejected the White
19:56House conduct, as well as the governments of Spain and Ireland, while countries like Canada,
20:01France, the United Kingdom and Australia called for an immediate reconsideration of the resolution.
20:06The spokesman for the UN Secretary General, Stefan de Jarek, recalled the importance of the presence
20:11of all states at the meeting.
20:17And in Yemen, the authorities have denounced the assassination of the country's Prime Minister
20:21by Israel during an attack on the city of Sanaa.
20:24The Ansar Rola movement said that Yemen's Prime Minister, Ahmed Galeb Al-Hahoui, was assassinated
20:29Thursday, August 28, during Israel's attacks on civilian facilities and the government's headquarters
20:34in Sanaa, which left four people dead and 67 wounded.
20:37Going to local media reports, the Prime Minister and ministers were killed while holding a year-of-review
20:42meeting.
20:43The official report underscores that Ahmed Galeb Al-Hahoui was a true resistance leader
20:47who believed in justice of its cause and in the rights of its people.
20:51And like this, we are from the end of this news brief.
