00:00welcome back to from the south we've been going over the latest events in venezuela and also the
00:19shows of solidarity around the world all of this in the context of the latest u.s aggression into
00:25the region as a whole and to go deeper into this topic we now welcome analyst and human rights
00:31expert david lopez david thank you for joining us here in from the south yeah thank you very
00:38much for the invitation with us from geneva it's a pleasure to have you with us and first of all
00:44i wanted to ask you how should we understand this new escalation of threats that we're seeing
00:51from the u.s against venezuela and the region how are you seeing this why to proceed like this and
00:57why now so this is a very warrior the situation we live right now overall because we confirm again
01:05that the system so the the actual system puts in crisis the international law so the article 2.1
01:14regarding the sovereignty it's not respected by the united states article 2.7 of uh regarding the
01:21non-intervention in the internal affairs are not respected above all and unfortunately this is a very
01:30dangerous steps uh enterprises by the united states and we don't know until which point they can arrive
01:38because the uh the the the the the the country it's actually falling in a hole where they're they are
01:46desesperated so they try to to to to to approach the power in the fascism as well with it finish it in 1945
01:59so the situation is very hard they are desesperated and they don't care if we have wars genocides etc so
02:08as a human right defender and the defender of the international law we are very worried about the
02:15situation now we were just mentioning of course one of the worst things that are happening today at
02:22the global scene that's the genocide in palestine and we've seen the international community rise
02:27in rejection of that sentiment and also we are seeing now shows of solidarity great shows of solidarity
02:35around the world in support of what is happening to venezuela in this case how are you reading these
02:41responses of solidarity around the world from the region but also from other sectors so i i think that
02:51my interpretation is that the people are as well worried about the situation we have right now
02:56because the people don't want to relieve again what happened in 1945 in the second world war
03:02they don't want to have more genocides that before happened like uh it happened right now in palestine
03:09so the the the manifestation we have actually from every country around the world in defense of the
03:19sovereignty of venezuela and in defense of the un charter in the international law mean that maybe the
03:26the people are wake up but unfortunately we have many um multinational media who don't want to show that
03:37uh that reprime that many people in the streets of berlin paris madrid etc are reprimed because they ask
03:47only the respect of the people of the world they request the stop of the genocide in palestine they request
03:53the stop of the provocation uh from the united states to venezuela they request since many years in the
04:00general assembly the stop of the blocus uh against cuba they many people for example in colombia they
04:07asked for example to remove the uf bases in colombia because it represents as well a violation of the
04:15sovereignty of the country as well in panama and this is something who happened since many years and the
04:20people are very tired so i think this is very important to understand the message who actually
04:28is pronounced by everybody around the world it's not only from the countries of the south but as well
04:33from the countries and from the people of europe because they are as well tired about the policies
04:38applied by paris by berlin by madrid by other countries who don't understand and don't want to
04:44understand that the people are tired and that we have a new situation right now on the geopolitical
04:50system and a new uh chapter of the world and the humanity which oriented right now on the on the
04:59multilaterals now latin america and the caribbean has always been characterized by being a zone of peace
05:07a zone far away from the well events that are happening sadly in other parts of the world how do you think
05:15that this new scenario will impact the people yeah so this is very interesting what you mentioned and
05:23this is good to remember to the people what you mentioned so the the the lacks of latin american and
05:28caribbean countries are uh a zone of peace uh since 2014 as uh proclamated in la havana but despite of that
05:38uh united states don't care about the agreements they don't care about the the the international
05:45law we have right now 70 around 70 u.s bases in all latin americans in arabia as i mentioned you
05:52we have nine military bases in colombia 12 in panama we have the imposition of guantanamo etc so
06:00uh they don't care but we have something very interesting is that the celac in a moment made that
06:09the all the latin american countries could be together to our front all the dangerous situation
06:18who can affect the interest of latin american country so right now we have a very critical situation
06:27because we see that ecuador is a country who right now uh it's conducted by a person who will follow
06:35the policies of the united states as well argentina um maybe uh peru as well um but the voice of the
06:44people are different and uh i think that the movement uh proposed by venezuela to defend the territory
06:52so the uh army with the people to defend the interests of the uh of the country will have maybe uh
07:01will be an example for other countries to respond to this security and to defend these uh agreements uh
07:10proclaimed in the celac in 2014 and of course defend the peace of the religion this is of course at least
07:18an army uh who in a moment if the people uh can feeling that the danger uh can be really near of the
07:29territory because uh foreign your force like the next take treats the region um it will be very
07:37interesting uh to know what it will happen but of course uh deter the zone of the the latin america like
07:44this zone uh it's very important uh it will give maybe in the future much more tools and steps to
07:51the latin american people to defend the latin american territory and the caribbean countries as well
07:57it's clear and something that we'll definitely be looking forward to thank you so much david for
08:03joining us hearing from the south to continue understanding this deeper context
08:07now thanks uh thank you very much to you and uh really my message and the message we can uh shoot
08:16from here from switzerland in geneva uh we remember that tomorrow the the human rights council will start
08:23here in geneva the message we will pronounce and we we and we want to promote is the message of the peace
08:30and the respect of the u.n charter because if we don't respect the u.n charter so we will have a very
08:38anarchic uh situation who can conduce us in a very dangerous uh times that we hope will not
08:49become the same situation we have in palestine it's clear and one of the things that the world and
08:56the international community social movements across the world continue to add that respect for the u.n
09:00charter thank you very much that was david lopez analyst and human rights expert that was joining us
09:06here in from the south
