00:00Bumped.
00:01Ba-no-no-no.
00:02Go, Pack, go.
00:03You're going to hear a lot of that because that's excitement here,
00:06and you can hear it from Wisconsin.
00:08A monster deal goes down in the NFL yesterday.
00:12Micah Parsons traded from the Dallas Cowboys to the Green Bay Packers.
00:16I never thought this would happen.
00:17Micah Parsons wants a trade.
00:19Yeah, he's not getting one.
00:20Sooner than later, these two will come to an agreement.
00:22No idea what Jerry Jones was saying.
00:23I want to negotiate with my player.
00:25I don't want to talk to the agent here.
00:26So now they opened up earlier this week, as we heard,
00:29from insiders that maybe Jerry is looking to trade Micah Parsons,
00:33but we still didn't think that would be a possibility,
00:35and where would he go?
00:36And Dallas Cowboys say, you know what?
00:38I think our team is better without Micah Parsons.
00:42Jerry did this.
00:43Sign your players sooner than later,
00:45because here's what I always like where it comes down to.
00:48You're going to trade Micah Parsons in hoping that those two first-round draft picks
00:51somehow get you closer to Micah Parsons
00:53when you had Micah Parsons already on your football team.
00:56I was so shocked to hear this news come down yesterday
00:59because, once again, it's the failure of an organization.
01:02Jerry is an unbelievable businessman worth billions and billions of dollars.
01:07The Dallas Cowboys are the biggest brand in the world,
01:10but he is a bonehead when it comes to general managing.
01:13If you would have made this move when Micah Parsons wanted more money
01:16than you figured you would get him and traded him before the draft,
01:19you'd probably have two more defensive players
01:20and much more money allocated to your defense and offense
01:23to make your team better.
01:24You trade Micah Parsons a week before the season,
01:27now your season is effectively over.
01:29Joe, where did this start, and how did it happen,
01:32Micah Parsons ending up in Green Bay?
01:35Well, it happened with, you know, Jerry trying to do an end around
01:39by not including what is very clearly written into the collective bargaining agreement
01:44to have an agent present,
01:46but he thought he was going to somehow or another, you know,
01:50push him into a corner and get a deal done without an agent in the room,
01:54and that obviously backfired in a big way.
01:58And then Jerry let the ego get involved,
02:02and all of a sudden, I mean, a lot of stuff coming out of his,
02:05this all could have been rectified, no problem.
02:08I mean, initially, from what we're understanding now,
02:11the offer that was going to be presented
02:15or what Dallas was going to offer him
02:18wasn't far off from the total value
02:20of what he ended up getting from Green Bay.
02:24But, again, Jerry, being Jerry,
02:28wanted to, you know, always wants to have the last word
02:31and drag this thing out to a point where
02:33now it was a, okay, it's a chess match.
02:37So now if he continues to act as if he's hurt,
02:39not available to play for you,
02:41he becomes a bigger and bigger cancer in that locker room, Donnie.
02:45He becomes a bigger and bigger distraction for this team.
02:47So at what point, Jerry, are you just going,
02:51can't get this, the agent wouldn't talk to Jerry,
02:54Jerry wouldn't talk to the agent,
02:55and Micah Parsons becoming a distraction.
02:58You backed yourself into this corner,
03:00and now, all right, a couple of first-round picks too late,
03:04not for this year, Donnie, and that's my point.
03:06The Cowboys are telling Cowboy fans,
03:08we're in no rush.
03:10There's no urgency here.
03:13Green Bay is saying for the first time,
03:15I can't remember the last time Green Bay spent $188 million
03:17on a guy like this,
03:20and they are all in right now saying,
03:23we're going to, now is the time for the Packers
03:25to win a championship.
03:27Kudos to Green Bay.
03:28But, Jerry, my goodness,
03:30good luck explaining this to the fan base.
03:33You can explain it, and that's the whole issue,
03:35because once again, Joe, if you did this before the draft,
03:38Jerry Jones would get up and say,
03:40we love Micah.
03:41I can't spend $50 million on a defensive end.
03:44It's not the way we're going to make this team up.
03:46We had great seasons under Micah.
03:47We couldn't come to an agreement,
03:48but I moved him before the draft.
03:50I picked up a number one in this draft.
03:51I picked up a number two in this draft.
03:53I got Kenny Clark,
03:54and you probably still could have got that future first-rounder,
03:56so then everything checks out.
03:57More money to spend on your team,
03:59draft and munition that you can use for this year.
04:01The fact that you waited so long is just so ridiculous
04:04in the way it played out,
04:05because if I'm Jerry Jones,
04:07you could be a smart general manager.
04:08It's almost like he watches Netflix and goes,
04:11you know what?
04:11We rebuilt this Dallas Cowboys team
04:13with a huge Herschel Walker move.
04:15This is my Herschel Walker move,
04:17because Jerry didn't get credit last time
04:19because it was Jimmy that got credit for that,
04:21as opposed to Jerry.
04:22Stop the madness here.
04:23Like, what did you do to your team?
04:25You now have zero chance to win a Super Bowl this year.
04:28You just ignited the Green Bay Packers.
04:30Oh, by the way, probably going to stand in your way
04:32if you do want to make the playoffs,
04:33and you do play the Green Bay Packers,
04:35and the Green Bay Packers, I believe,
04:37that game is going to be, I want to say,
04:38in Dallas on their schedule,
04:40which would be incredible for Micah Parsons going home.
04:43But you just empowered one franchise
04:44at the detriment to your own franchise,
04:47and away you go.
04:48Again, I'm shocked this happened here.
04:50I always thought that it was some charade,
04:52and we'll drag this out,
04:53and we'll sign you a couple days before the Eagles game,
04:55but it wasn't meant to be.
04:56But also, from Micah's perspective here,
04:58you want to talk about some of these guys,
05:00Trey Hendrickson,
05:02Miles Garrett,
05:03you know, T.J. Watt,
05:04getting that big number.
05:06This resetting of the market
05:08at defensive end slash, you know,
05:09outside linebacker,
05:10$180 million,
05:12136 in total guarantees.
05:14I mean, unbelievable.
05:16What's the next pass rush
05:17you're going to ask for next year?
05:19It's going to be over the top.
05:21But again, this is a double-edged sword.
05:23Now, kudos, Green Bay.
05:26You rolled the dice,
05:27and you literally just pushed
05:29all your chips
05:30in on a player who,
05:33although young and only 26,
05:36hasn't really done a whole heck of a lot
05:38outside of that first season here, Donnie.
05:40We've had injuries.
05:42We've had a couple of shots
05:44at a playoff game in which,
05:45well, Green Bay beat them.
05:47I mean, Green Bay had no problem
05:49handling Micah Parsons and company.
05:51So, you know, if it doesn't work out,
05:55if he's hurt,
05:56if he doesn't turn out to be
05:57the player that they thought he was,
06:00you know, this is a big risk here,
06:02one that you've got to take.
06:04You thought Dallas would have taken it,
06:06but who knew better than Dallas
06:07what he was all about?
06:09But for Green Bay, man,
06:11this is either all in
06:13or this is Super Bowl
06:15or it's bust at this point
06:17because you got all the other pieces.
06:19Let's see what they do with it now.
06:21You're right.
06:22And if you look at the odds there
06:23to win the NFC North,
06:24now the Green Bay Packers are the favorite,
06:25plus 170.
06:26Look at the Detroit Lions,
06:27plus 185.
06:28Vikings and the Chicago Bears.
06:30Boy, you just loaded up that team
06:31where we knew the Packers were good.
06:33I still were calling for them
06:34to make the playoffs
06:34before the Parsons deal.
06:35But now you can say
06:36they would be a legitimate
06:37Super Bowl contender.
06:39If Micah Parsons is healthy
06:40for this season
06:41and plays the way we think he can play,
06:43that just levels up that defense
06:45another angle to say,
06:46we can beat the Lions.
06:48We can beat the Eagles.
06:49We can beat the best in the NFC.
06:51Why?
06:51Because if we're up late in the game,
06:53we can hunt down quarterbacks like crazy.
06:55What a move here.
06:56Excitement for the Packers?
06:57No doubt about it, Joe.
06:59And they should be.
07:01But again,
07:01you gotta,
07:02when you see a generational talent
07:04in the second hardest position
07:06to fill on a roster,
07:08you go all in.
07:09The Packers historically
07:10have not been that team, Donnie.
07:12That's the amazing thing.
07:13How about a press conference
07:15from Jerry Jones saying like,
07:16yeah,
07:16we've got a really good defender
07:18to stop the run.
07:19Holy,
07:19holy doubt.
07:20Tough scene.
07:22Let's get after it.
07:22It's the early line.
07:23Hot topics.
07:24It's a Friday.
07:24It's a football Friday.
07:25No better place to be
07:26to set the table
07:27for the rest of your sports grid day.
07:29It's Donnie Wright's side.
07:30It's Joe Ranieri.
07:32And you hear the guy
07:32in the background
07:32is Tom Vecchio,
07:33my counterpart on pro baseball today.
07:3510 a.m. to 12 p.m.
07:36The final send-off, Tom Vecchio.
07:38Apparently, baseball ends in August
07:40and we just go right
07:41the football season on the grid.
07:42How about that?
07:43Yeah, Sunday,
07:45like you said,
07:45the final send-off.
07:46You know, football,
07:47we know on Sunday morning
07:48certainly does take a priority.
07:50Busy week across the sports landscape.
07:53We obviously have college starting.
07:54We're getting into full swing.
07:56The Michael Parsons trade yesterday.
07:58We got a lot to get to.
07:59We do got a lot to get to.
08:00And by the way,
08:01I was driving to the Phillies game yesterday,
08:02which I saw four shore bombs
08:04leave the ballpark.
08:05That was fun.
08:06But driving there, Tom,
08:07the bomb dropped on the radio.
08:09Micah Parsons traded
08:10to the Green Bay Packers.
08:11I never thought that would happen.
08:13I thought the squabbles
08:14would eventually calm down
08:15and, oh, Micah wants to trade.
08:16Yes, so does every superstar athlete.
08:18It's probably just between
08:19a couple million dollars.
08:20They'll meet halfway
08:21and he'll play
08:22against the Philadelphia Eagles
08:23next Thursday night
08:24in Philadelphia.
08:25That didn't happen.
08:26The Packers got a monster
08:27as a defensive pass rusher
08:28and Jerry Jones is telling everybody,
08:30Tom, we're so much better today
08:32than having Micah Parsons traded
08:34than not being on the football team.
08:35Come on now, Tom.
08:36Explain it to me.
08:38Honestly, terrible.
08:40And the return alone
08:41for Parsons,
08:42to me,
08:43two first-rounders
08:43and you get back
08:45a nose tackle.
08:46Like, two first-rounders
08:48isn't enough
08:48when you are trading away
08:50a player that is legitimately
08:51on a Hall of Fame trajectory.
08:54And like you said,
08:55like, eventually he paid Dak.
08:57Eventually he paid CeeDee Lamb.
08:58Like, we have seen this play out
08:59time and time again.
09:00And whatever the difference
09:02was in money,
09:03you have to find a reason
09:04to make that,
09:05like, bridge that gap
09:07to keep arguably a player
09:08that is going to be in line
09:10or one of the top contenders
09:11with Hutchinson and Watford,
09:13defensive player of the year,
09:14for the next five-plus years
09:15in a row
09:16and you are trading them away
09:17for two-plus picks
09:18and you're saying,
09:19oh, you're a better team today.
09:20Like, yeah,
09:20those picks could end up
09:21being great.
09:21There's no doubt about it.
09:22First-round talent
09:23is a premium in the NFL,
09:24but those players
09:26aren't going to be realized
09:27for 24 months at this point.
09:29Like, what are we doing?
09:31Yeah, no urgency
09:33is what we're doing,
09:34but how does that change
09:35your view on Green Bay
09:36and now are they,
09:37it seems everyone wants to run
09:39and now Green Bay
09:40wins everything here now.
09:42Are you convinced?
09:44You know, I would say
09:46if you have,
09:46if you had a ticket
09:47on Green Bay
09:48prior to the number moving,
09:50fantastic.
09:51At 12-1 to win
09:53the Super Bowl,
09:53at least I'm seeing now
09:54in the Fando's World,
09:54I wouldn't jump in
09:55at this point.
09:56Right, I,
09:57you can,
09:57again, the price move
09:59to win the NFC North,
10:00if you had a ticket
10:00on them prior to yesterday,
10:02awesome,
10:02I would not jump in
10:03on them now.
10:04That division
10:04is super, super tough,
10:06so I don't want to be
10:06betting into a tough situation
10:08after the number
10:09has already moved.
10:10Now, you can take them
10:11on a game-to-game basis,
10:12you could look at certainly
10:13some other, you know,
10:15opposing team total unders,
10:16whatever it might be
10:17situationally,
10:18but from a top-down perspective,
10:20the numbers moved
10:21and you missed the boat,
10:22I would not be getting in
10:23at this point.
10:24I do love the fact
10:25that also, like Jerry Jones,
10:26knowing that, like,
10:27oh, Micah Parsons
10:28have many chances
10:28to places he can go to.
10:29If you open this up
10:30to the league-wide trade,
10:31there have probably
10:32been 15 teams
10:33with honest efforts
10:34to try to trade him
10:35and get him,
10:36and yet Jerry Jones
10:36keeps him in the NFC,
10:38which the Dallas Cowboys
10:39will play the Green Bay Packers
10:40this year,
10:41and over the next couple years
10:41we'll be fighting
10:42for playoff spots
10:43with the Green Bay Packers.
10:44It's Jerry Jones.
10:45He thinks they got
10:46the better end of the deal.
10:47We'll find out,
10:48but I think the early results
10:49are, what a terrible move, Jerry!
10:52Donnie Wrightside
10:53and Joe Ranieri.
10:54I think we got you ready
10:54for this week.
10:55I think we brought the pain.
10:56I think you're ready
10:57for Labor Day.
10:58I think you're ready
10:58for Major League Baseball today,
10:59the college football
11:00that you're going to see
11:00this weekend on Friday night,
11:02Saturday night,
11:03Sunday night,
11:03and also on Monday night.
11:05I think we're there
11:06for us, Joe.
11:06The energy,
11:08certainly high.
11:09The table's been set
11:10for the day,
11:10but at this point in the show,
11:11you know the drill, Joe.
11:12We reach out to the public
11:14and ask them a question
11:15and we want their feedback.
11:17This is Fade the Public.
11:25Simple question today.
11:27The hottest topic yesterday.
11:28No, it wasn't.
11:29Travis Kelsey
11:29and, you know,
11:30Jason Kelsey
11:31and, you know,
11:32playing in Arrowhead
11:33and Taylor Swift
11:34and the Cincinnati Bearcats
11:35and the Nebraska Cornhuskers.
11:37That was fun.
11:38Micah Parsons got traded yesterday.
11:39And if you enter our account
11:40at SportsGrid on X,
11:42we ask that simple question.
11:43Can Parsons
11:44and the Packers
11:45win the Super Bowl?
11:47No.
11:4862%.
11:50Yes.
11:5138%.
11:52I voted no
11:54just because I wanted to vote
11:55no on that point, Joe.
11:56What was your opinion
11:57on this one?
11:58I,
11:58he is such a wild card.
12:01Is he a great talent?
12:03Absolutely.
12:04But he's also now
12:05making quarterback money.
12:07And what happens?
12:08Is he going to love
12:10living in Green Bay?
12:11This guy?
12:12You know,
12:13what if they,
12:14it doesn't go as well
12:15as they thought here?
12:16There's just far
12:17too many questions
12:18and he's not
12:19a proven commodity
12:20in postseason football here.
12:22So,
12:23I mean,
12:24they beat him.
12:25I mean,
12:25Green Bay beat him
12:26when he was at Dallas
12:27in the playoffs.
12:28So,
12:28I,
12:29you know,
12:30I would wait and see
12:31are they better today
12:33because he's on the team?
12:34Yes.
12:34Does that mean
12:35I'm running to the window
12:36and I think they are
12:36now the favorite
12:37to win the Super Bowl?
12:39Absolutely not.
12:40I agree with the public.
