00:04Two men behind the campaign that has seen St George flags appear across Chesterfield
00:08have condemned any racist comments made in connection with their efforts
00:12which they say are helping to raise funds for Ashgate Hospice.
00:15Peter Isen and Glenn Hardy helped to start the recent emergence of the flags in the area
00:20which began in Brimmington and Old Whittington and has since spread across Chesterfield.
00:25Peter, who lives in Brimmington, revealed that people had offered to donate money towards the flags.
00:30Instead, they had the idea to encourage people to support a fundraiser
00:33that has been set up for Ashgate Hospice instead.
00:36The 63-year-old said,
00:37People were trying to give us money, so we've set up a fundraiser for Ashgate Hospice.
00:42We didn't want people giving us money, so we've set up the fund.
00:45In five days it's generated around £1,000 and it's still going up.
00:49Peter stressed that the emergence of the flags aims to have paid tribute to armed forces veterans
00:53and condemned any racist comments that have been made in connection with the campaign.
00:57He said,
00:58We've been having racist comments, but we want people to know that this isn't a racial event.
01:03We're doing it in part for our war veterans.
01:05We're putting flags up for them too at war memorials when we can find them
01:08because we feel like they have been forgotten.
01:10Chesterfield's very own Seagull Boy, who is twice winner of the European Goal Screech Championship,
01:18will be the head judge of a new competition.
01:21Cooper Wallace, who is 11 from Newbold, will judge Western Supermare's first Seagull Screeching Championship on Sunday.
01:27However, family and loyalty were put to the test as Cooper's younger sister Shelby is among the contestants in the under-12 category.
01:34As well as helping to pick the winners, Cooper will also give a live demonstration of his award-winning screech
01:39and share top tips on perfecting the bird call.
