Regional Corporations across the country are now unable to use money from their unspent balances to carry out various works in the municipalities.
That's according to Chairman of the San Juan Laventille Richard Walcott, who sees it as an attack from the government.
Alicia Boucher has the details.

00:00Chairman of the San Juan Laventil Regional Corporation, Alderman Richard Wolcott, accuses
00:05the government of what he calls an attack on the working class. He says they have moved
00:10from dismantling programs like CPAP and URP to what he sees as tampering with the regional
00:17corporations. Today, the Minister of Finance suspended all uses of that money. We cannot
00:27use the unspent balances again. Tanko, who don't know what he's doing. Oh, I say you
00:33know what he's doing. Because he don't want to suffer the PNM Corporation. So the millions
00:40of dollars that we would have requested to do work, we cannot do it. So no construction
00:47work will be done, not only in San Juan Laventil, all the corporations. Wolcott says the memorandum
00:54from the Minister was received about 3pm on August 26th. But he points to another issue, at least
01:00within his corporation. Do you know, four months now this government is in office. Not one cent
01:07has been given to the San Juan Laventil Regional Corporation under goods and services. Not one
01:13cent. Today, ladies and gentlemen, our team, construction team, has no materials to do work. None!
01:25According to Wolcott, principals of schools in that region have been writing the corporation
01:29asking for assistance in getting their schools ready for the new academic year.
01:34The Ministry of Education is doing nothing to prepare those schools for the reopening. MTS
01:39is doing nothing to prepare the schools for reopening. So we are under attack, ladies and
01:44gentlemen, in San Juan Laventil.
01:46Wolcott calls on supporters of the people's national movement to put their differences aside
01:51and rally together. We need to take back our country from this wicked government, a government
01:58who is elbent on destroying us. TV6 News reached out to Finance Minister Devendra Natanku on
02:05Wolcott's claims. The minister says regional corporations are simply being asked to account
02:11for monies that have been released to them and have not been used for the purpose for which those funds
02:17were approved. Alicia Boucher, TV6 News.
