00:00Harry Potter director Chris Columbus has some thoughts about HBO's Harry Potter remake.
00:05The director who helmed the first two Warner Bros. films that launched the hit cinematic franchise
00:10recently made headlines for saying he wanted nothing to do with HBO's multi-season remake
00:15of J.K. Rowling's novels. And now in a recent podcast, he's sharing more on why.
00:21Columbus reacted to photos making the rounds of Hagrid, played by Nick Frost,
00:25leading around a young Harry, played by Dominic McLoughlin, around London.
00:29I looked online and there are photographs of Nick Frost as Hagrid and the new Harry Potter,
00:33and he's wearing the exact same costume that we designed for Hagrid.
00:37Part of me was like, what's the point? I thought everything on the HBO show,
00:40the costumes and everything was going to be different. It's more of the same.
00:44Columbus continued, it's very flattering for me because I'm like,
00:47that's exactly the Hagrid costume that we designed. So part of it is really exciting.
00:51I'm excited to see what they're going to do with it. Part of it is sort of deja vu all over again.
00:56Columbus also discussed how he shot films with Peeves, the poltergeist for the first film,
01:012001's Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, which were cut from the release.
01:05We filmed the Peeves scenes, but it was a CGI character and we could never get it right.
01:10That's the thing I'm probably most excited about in the HBO series. I want to see how they do Peeves.
01:15HBO's Harry Potter is coming in 2027 and pledges a faithful reimagining of Rowling's seven novels,
01:21each with its own season and including more material from Rowling's novels than was able
01:25to be explored in the films. For more on this story, head to THR.com. And for the latest
